What a gem for Pinehurst, NC.
There are several gardens (floral or vegetable) , statues, and a special architectural structure to see and enjoy at the horticultural garden.
I am visiting from San Diego with my adult daughter. I was impressed!

Gorgeous, expansive gardens, and no charge to attend. It's a great place to get some walking in and see beauty and nature in a calm, peaceful environment. It's not a stuffy place -- not everything is perfect. Students at the community college help create and maintain the gardens. There are a few gravel/dirt path areas so plan your footwear accordingly. It's larger than you would think, so comfortable shoes would be ideal. We were very impressed with it and would like to return when it's a little cooler (we visited in August).
Visitor tip: Make sure you enter where the official welcome center is, because it's a little confusing if you enter at the main campus entrance. Some of the signs actually direct you to go in that way, at the main campus entrance, but it's a lot better if you go in the entrance that is only for the gardens.

Been in Moore county for 8 years and can't believe I haven't been here. What a beautiful garden, offering various types of gardens. Went in November so very few blooming specimens other than camellias, but the beauty was still there. Well maintained and just serene. A must visit!

Beautiful gardens. We came here on Mother’s Day. We had a gorgeous day. I can’t believe it had been my first visit after all these years. Maybe because I was with mom and not on the golf course. Easy walking paths. Benches for rests. Inspiration for your own gardens.

This is a treasure in the heart of the Sandhills. Not only are the flowers, and trees wonderful the sculpture is also beautiful. Any time of the year is a good time to go to this garden.

My friend and I don't play golf and have no interest in getting a spa treatment, so we searched online for something to do around Pinehurst while the rest of the group was hitting little balls into little holes.
For us, Sandhills was a great find. The gardens are on the grounds of the community college and are maintained by students in the horticulture program. Entrance is free (just one reason to go back many times) and, though the visitors center was not staffed, there are maps available. Besides showing the location of various gardens, the map also has a key to the walking surfaces (helpful for anyone with mobility concerns)
There are numerous directional signs and signs to identify many of the plants; however, I sometimes found myself at a loss when I came to a fork in the pathway. I have to admit I am directionally challenged but there must be others like me who would appreciate a bit of help.

Do not miss this hidden gem! What a fabulous garden experience. Many different sections and paths to explore. Most are shaded by tall trees so you are not always in the heat of the sun. We were visiting my Dad and decided it would be a nice distraction. It is free and fairly handicap friendly. You can go at your own pace and enjoy the different settings. It would be a great place for a picnic, stroll or even a wedding! If i lived here, I would be a regular. I would allow at least a couple of hours, depending on the group and the weather. Tip- wear sneakers

In season the Gardens are magnificent and free to the public. A relaxing walk through a beautiful peaceful setting. Highly recommend a stop at the Gardens with things are blooming. Magnolias, dogwoods, azeleas, and many, many other floral, bush and trees to observe and enjoy.
