Pinehurst Course Number 2
Stretching 7,020 yards at Par 72, this championship golf course is very green and relatively flat, with tall pines on every hole.

One of the best

Historically, it doesn’t get much better in the U.S. than No.2. The clubhouse has tons of photos and memorabilia to remind you of that.
The course is fun to play and is probably as easy a walk as you’ll get. I don’t like walking because my hips and knees are shot, but this was manageable.
Our round was rough because it poured rain for nine holes, which stunk. But what can you do? It’ll give us a good story.
The facility, the staff, the pro shop, the practice area, the restaurants, were all too-notch.
Loved it.

Knock another one of the bucket list!

Was fortunate enough to be given a tee time for No. 2 by my family for Christmas. I've grown up admiring this course and always dreamed of playing it. This course was everything I imagined and more!

To begin, the history of this course and Pinehurst at that is incredible. Just walking the same grounds that some of the greatest to ever play have walked will give you chills. Take your time and walk the clubhouse and take it all in!

Everyone we encountered was top notch and friendly as could be. The pro shop, cart guy, starter and forecaddie were all awesome and helpful. I played with my 12 year old son and they all made sure he felt special and included.

The course is a brute. It's not necessarily the fairways or even the waste areas, it's mainly the green complexes. They're basically all humpback and quick. Difficult for an average golfer to land and hold from any distance outside a wedge range. I went in with low expectations about how I would play and met those expectations! A day later a friend asked if I'd play again.....I think I would like to play it again now knowing what I'm up against and how to play the course, but I wouldn't want to take that beating several more times!

Get a caddie! We had Freddy and he was awesome! The reads on and around the greens were spot on. Club recommendations were dead on as well. More importantly he treated my son like he was just like every other adult he caddies for and that was awesome! Really a great experience. I stuck a tee shot on 9 for a tap in 2 and he told us about the "2 on No. 2" coin I could get after my round. Cool idea and memento!

So glad to check this one off the list! Great experience from beginning to end!

Played #2 for the second time and first since the renovation. Loved what they did with the renovation. Best way to play is with a caddie and walk the course. Walk wasn’t difficult. Got to see the Donald Ross old house. Caddies great at green reading and telling ball flight from tees and green approaches. Your still going to get Rossed with balls rolling off. Just enjoy the experience. Surprised they didn’t have something on Donald Ross since his birthday was 11/23. Still course is great but some may not appreciate it. I would play it again.

1) Get a caddie! I don’t care what kind, but listen to me... get a caddie. We are very experienced golfers and play at many different venues. The caddies will EASILY knock 10 strokes off your round. Easy! They will tell how to approach the hole, where’s the best spot to miss and the green reading is just at a level that you will not want to give up strokes. It’s tough enough as it is. We had a range of 8-18 handicaps and I’m telling you, you need a caddie. And just for the experience and conversation, splurge on a single or double bag caddie. You’re at Pinehurst for crying out loud. It’s a place to splurge.

2) I did not heed the advice of a friend who told me to play #2 and NOTHING else for the day. I was on a golf trip! I wanted to play golf but man was I mistaken. #2 is a fine wine and should be appreciated. It’s like sipping on a nice bourbon then taking a shot of Jim Beam right after. Take your time with #2.

3) Speaking of time... we hoofed it in 4.5 hours. Generally a 5 hour round. The group ahead of us had carts and were a threesome. How in the world does the ranger expect us to keep up? It’s asinine. It was a bit of a buzz kill. We were trying to finish in a certain time that it rushed the idea of soaking the experience in. I mean we’re walking in the steps of so many greats, they had us damn near jogging. Everyone broke 100 and one broke 90. We were playing fairly quickly. My suggestion would be to charge more money and spread out the tee times or don’t charge more money and spread out the tee times. Either way, people spend a lot of money to be out there, let them enjoy it!

Great course with a lot of history, but slow play
Sep 2020
We played this course on our 2nd day, after playing #8 the afternoon before. Great sequence. The course is great and lived up to its billing. We walked course with caddie, and play was slow. Waited on most shots. Very little drinking water on course, so bring water bottle that you can refill at drinking fountains.

Magnificent Golf Course
Jun 2020 • Friends
I have played some of the best courses in country including Oakmont, Firestone South, Indian Wells, Mission Hills to name a few and Pinehurst #2 ranks right up there being a unique golf course. It’s definitely different, undulating greens, deep bunkers, and those waste areas will drive you crazy. But I loved the course and will play it again. I highly recommend it.

The Ultimate Golf Experience

We had the luxury to experience Pinehurst No.2 last week with caddies to carry our clubs and help around the golf course reading putts, finding balls, and hitting placement. Overall there was so much history and I would highly recommend playing this course.

Quality costs, and this is definitely worth it!
Jun 2019 • Friends
There are times in life when it's worth it to splurge for a top shelf experience. In golf, Pebble Beach is worth the outrageous costs and always delivers, and I would put Pinehurst #2 in that category as well. This course is unlike any golf course I've ever played and stands on it's own in terms of it's design and feel. The redesign done by Gil Hanse years ago brought #2 back to it's original Donald Ross designed state, and the result is a visual treat as well as an athletic test.

Practice facilities are very good. Everything is right there and easy to access. The clubhouse is large and welcoming. The porches have rocking chairs where you can sip a drink and watch golfers tee off on the 1st hole or play up onto 18 green. The locker room is small but the attendant did an outstanding job meeting needs that came up during the two days I was there.

Take a caddy. It is a great walking course and a caddy is essential so you aren't flailing around more than required as you battle the greens. You can take a cart, but I would still take a forecaddie so you can walk some of the holes and have his help on the greens and in the bunkers. You won't regret the extra $$. The cart path is quite a way off from the fairways, so a caddy will allow you to walk and they can move the cart along when you want to hoof it.

The defense of the course are the greens, which you will learn very quickly as a good shot onto the green slides off a false front or back and ten yards back onto the fairway. Some may say this is unfair and that they are not rewarded for a great shot. I say tough luck, and you had better make the attitude adjustment early and then adjust your game to accept the challenge. If you let this course get in your head early in a negative way you are in for a long and unpleasant round. I found the design delightfully interesting, and extremely fair from tee to green. Once you get to the greens you just have to adjust. You won't lose an balls on this course as the rough is really sandy wasteland area with sparse fescue and some small shrubs. You can ground your club in the waste areas so advancing the ball well down the fairway is the norm even if you are ten or fifteen yards off the fairway. It all evens out. What the generous fairways giveth, the greens will take away!

Get your attitude right and enjoy a real treat of a golf course!

The question you may have is "Is #2 worth the $195 extra to play it if you are on the golf package and I would say 100% yes. I played the course 10 years ago and loved it then, it is even better now. Every hole is a challenge. We took a Four Caddie and he was worth his weight in gold, great to be with and knew how to help us and have fun. Great day golfing.

We played in early April on a very cool day 40 degrees and windy when we made it to the first tee.

Great history, great course and good caddies

Just wished it was a bit warmer!

Loved the finishing holes and the Deuce.

We played with a member who was lucky enough to get a Deuce on the Deuce. He told us to make sure if we got one to go into the Deuce restaurant and show the bartender your card and receive a special "Deuce" ball marker for making a 2 on #2. Would not have know if we had not played with him
