Visited and took the ferry twice to Ocracoke from Hattarus and over to Swan Quarter.

Nice visitor centre and very helpful staff. The ferries are well looked after and very clean although the air freshener from head was quite strong. They got the cars off and on... read more

Nice visitor centre and very helpful staff. The ferries are well looked after and very clean although the air freshener from head was quite strong. They got the cars off and on quite fast. The night ride was interesting as the ship staff had to use their high powered lights to mark the buoys for safe navigation through the shallow... More

I think the visitor center has the best non-cheesy souvenirs on the island and the rangers that work there are quite helpful

This is a free ferry when you come from the North to Ocracoke Island. About 1 hour and very nice. You pass through some fishing lanes and can watch the boats.

My husband and I visited here while on Ocracoke. It is very informational and the staff is happy to help out. It has a small gift shop as well. We also walked out on the point at the boat ramp. We saw 2 skates, a hermit crab, our favorite was a seahorse.

While visiting the Cape Hatteras Area, you have to take a Ride on the Free Ferry over to Ocracoke island and enjoy the day.

Unfortunately for us, in this case, it was the 4th of July and there were a lot of people on the island. It was very crowded in town but there was an undeniably positive atmosphere all around. It was not just that it was the 4th, it was that they had several events planned that day including a parade. As... More

If your traveling the Outer Banks the Ocracoke Island Ferry is a must. The Visitor Center is very informative regarding the area. The Ferry ride over from Cape Hatteras to Ocracoke Island was wonderful - watching seagulls fly above while I was sitting on my console looking out my car's sunroof. However, the ride on the ferry at night was... More

I go to OBX every year in August for a vacation. Some years I will take the Ferries across. Hatterass to Ockracoke Ferry usualy runs every 20 minutes, but be prepared to wait in lines during peak hours. This cross over is free. Ocracoke to Cedar Island Ferry is a lot less frequent and I definitely recommend paying in advance... More
