First time to a lighthouse for my family and although it was closed that day we still had a wonderful time. It's very interesting how you can look up at it and it looks as though it's leaning. Many photo opportunities and lots of informative boards...More

Very interesting. Had a lovely broadwalk to the beach with informative plaques and wonderful picture opportunities. It curled around and lead you right to the Lighthouse. Nice parking area also

This lighthouse rests just off the beach at Oak Island, NC. If you happen to be nearby, it's definitely worth visiting. Believe it or not--the area wasn't saturated with tourists on July 4th weekend!

What do you like to do when staying at Oak Island? (0 Replies)
We are heading down to Oak Island June 20 - 26. We have two teenage girls 13 and 14 that are always up for new adventure. I have looked at the various websites to plan activities for our trip but I would also love to hear about personal finds. We have done everything from climbing the Oak Island lighthouse (I highly recommend), there for the filiming of Safe Haven (awesome opportunity) but in the past we have loved hanging out on the beach access or east end of the island as well. I would...More

1) take Southport Ferry over and back and feed the gulls 2) head to Bald Head Island for the day 3) go for a long bike ride and then have lunch at L'l Bits 4) create a biking scavenger hunt in Southport, finish at the Provision Company for a great burger 5) buy an crank ice cream machine and rock salt and make homemade ice cream

Two Questions (1 Reply)
We are leaving on Sunday for our first trip to Oak Island and have rented a house there for the week. I was wondering if there is access to a public pool anywhere nearby. My kids love the beach but would much rather swim in a pool. Also, is the Oak Island Lighthouse open for tours? Thanks so much for any information you can give me. Melodie
