It was a beautiful ride and the surrounding area and beach was extremely nice. This was in November, so bonus of no traffic (in fact, we were the only ones walking the beach), but we were unable to go inside the lighthouse. It was still pretty and worth the trip, but hard to say it was great or anything. :)

This lighthouse is located on Oak Island. While it's not the most beautiful or spectacular lighthouse, it has a little wood beach access to the ocean which has great views of the Atlantic. Guided tours for groups are available if you make arrangements in advance.

If you wish to climb to the top it is spectacular! But...some caveats to be aware of. You need to make reservations 2 weeks in advance (longer in "season"). You need to be in good shape...not traditional circular stairs...has "ships ladders", steep steps. Also...can for some be queasy if you have issues with heights during the climb. Reward is panoramic... More

I've lived on Oak Island for 13 years and never get tired of driving over the bridge and seeing the shining lighthouse beacon welcoming me home.

We have been coming to Oak Island for Thanksgiving Week since 2006 and nothing is more beautiful than waking up at night and looking out the French doors at the light revolving on top of the lighthouse from our oceanfront house!! I could watch it for hours!!! <3

We were in Oak Island and of course we couldn't afford to miss the lighthouse. After having seen Bodie and Hatteras one might say it's not that beautifully painted but, it is definitely grand. The tours to 2nd level are allowed on Wed an Saturdays only. For tour to the top, one must call the office in advance. There are... More

My family thought this was great! I'm not a huge fan of heights, so I was a little overwhelmed. That being said, I'm happy I climbed the steps because the view from the top was fantastic. Please note that you must be able to climb ladders to reach the top.

The lighthouse was really neat, but if you are visiting in the off season remember to call the Coast Guard so they can open the lighthouse for you. It is NOT always open during the week. Also, small (under 7) are allowed up the lighthouse, so again make sure that you know what the age limits are....oh yea and there... More

Not really much I can say other than seeing the lighthouse. and that it was the least painted one I have ever seen.
