The tour guides were fantastic. They were very patient and extremely knowledgeable about the Lighthouse and the surrounding areas as far as you could see. Wonderful little souvenirs for the kids and adults are available for purchase.

We picked this light house on the internet. it was written up well, and we packed the car and went. 15 minute drive from our beach house. We were a little disappointed, because it was not open, and if it was, not sure what we would have seen. You have to make an appointment. There is not a lot of... More

I've climbed this and enjoyed the view from the top. Recently our family group attempted, but the grandchildren 9 and 11 were a little fearful of the steps. The guide provided a good talk. I think the size of the group should be kept to no more than 12.

We are setting out to climb all the NC lighthouses that we can. We climbed Old Baldy back in August and wanted to move on to the next one. We made reservations 2 weeks in advance to do a top tour of Oak Island since only volunteers do the them. It was well worth it. The history behind the lighthouse... More

We were told we could drive to the lighthouse, so we did. Not a long trip from Southport. When we got there it was closed. It looked like 3 concrete pilings on top of one another. Has no appeal. Walked across the street to the beach, that was nice😀😀. Empty, clean and free public parking

Great tour. Must have reservations to climb to the top. 131 metal steps at a 65 degree angle. Great tour guide. Was very knowledgeable of the Lighthouse history.

I've never seen a lighthouse in person and boy was it stunning! The way the light beams glide across the ocean under the start lite sky is breaktaking! A MUST EXPERIENCE!

We enjoyed the free tour. The tour guides are great. This is not for the faint of heart. It's a steep and hard climb. They are redoing the lighthouse soon to make it more accessible. A few people from the group didn't make it to the top. It is also very hot. As long as you are aware going in... More

We saw several coast guard members and the ships they were launching. This is a cool vantage point for anyone to see the mainland and the harbors.

We loved this light. We took the tour and climbed the stairs Volunteers run the light out of loyalty and love , so please donate to the cause. This is still a working lighthouse and maintained by the coast guard.
