Description:

Colonial Governors ruled, legislators debated, patriots gathered and George...

Colonial Governors ruled, legislators debated, patriots gathered and George Washington danced. At Tryon Palace, where British rule once flourished, American independence took root and the state of North Carolina was born. Here you can still experience the adventure of North Carolina’s earliest beginnings and a living history like no other. Guided tours, live re-enactments and conversations with costumed interpreters from centuries past bring history to life in vivid detail at the Governor’s Palace, Gardens and Historic Homes. And, at the new high-tech North Carolina History Center, interactive games and hands-on exhibits delight visitors young and old. Whether you’re exploring one of our riverside gardens or sharpening your skills as a quilter, printer, ship’s captain or blacksmith, there are endless opportunities for making cherished family memories at Tryon Palace.

We didn't go through the houses on this visit. We spent time in the gardens instead. It was clear that the gardens were probably at their best in Spring and early Summer

Don't even think about skipping this incredible restoration of the inside of the Governor's Palace. Maybe we missed something, but the gardens worth no interesting. What was highly worthwhile seeing was the glorious restoration of the Palace. Do not skip! Take the tour. Bring your camera! Send pictures home.

The NC History Center is adjacent to Tryon Palace, a must-see attraction while in New Bern. A day pass is admission to both and is well worth the $20. The History Center presents the geological, political, environmental, and cultural history of eastern NC. Exhibits are extraordinarily well done and informative. Tryon Palace compares very favorably with Mount Vernon and Monticello... More

Excellent- wish I had had more time....lots of different galleries and tickets to Tryon Palace. Wonderful Information! Helpful guides and customer service. This is a relatively new facility adjacent to the Trent River. Beautiful history museum- I think I would prefer a less "naturalized" garden area outside though. More manicured would be better in the New Bern surroundings - Although... More

Nice uncrowded tour of the governor's mansion with excellent presentation by guide in period costume. Grounds are also lovely and worth exploring. Could have spent more time at some of the adjacent historic houses included in the tour!

We truly enjoyed all the parts of the history center. The Palace is awesome and the Stanley house was way cool. Well worth the visit.

My wife and I like to day little day trips and we took one to New Bern. We took in the Tryon Palace and historic center and it was amazing. The Palace is something everyone in North Carolina should see and see what they have done. To recreate that building and to find the furniture and furnishing to make it... More

I should have researched this a little more. this palace is a reproduction of the original. it is all from 1950, the original burned and all of the furniture has been replaced. if you are a real history buff it is disappointing. The replica is very nice and includes nearby houses that are original to the area and period.

the tour of Tryon Palace is a guided tour. Our Tour guide was excellent. She made you feel like you were back in the colonial days living in the Governor's palace. The house is beautifully maintained inside with period furnishings and beautiful gardens outside. Your ticket includes the palace, gardens, kitchen building, stable and blacksmiths shop. Also, you get to... More
