As a group we have been on 5-6 inshore fishing charters along the NC coast. As we planned our first trip to the OBX we of course included fishing as part of our “to-do”. Our captain (michael) was not very customer forward. As a group only 2 of us caught a fish. (1 each). I am aware fishing is not something you can just automatically promise everyone catching fish, but the issue came as other rock solid fishing boats were in the same area as us fishing and kept reeling them in. As soon as our capt would get to a spot and tell us to throw our lines, he would say reel up I got to move. It was as he didn’t know what he was doing. He even called other captains to ask for places to take us and even had to be told by another rock solid capt how to pull the boat up to a spot where we finally caught the 2 fish we caught. Other charters we have been on the capt is all about helping the customer and making it a worthwhile experience- even if you don’t catch anything. Instead the girls threw our own lines and couldn’t even cast it far enough to where the fish were. When we would ask for help the capt seemed irritated. When one of us hooked up on a fish he yelled at her telling her how to reel like we were idiots. As I asked if I needed to trade spots with her so we didn’t tangle our lines he yelled for me “yeahhh get out of the way!” Cussed at us when HE tangled our lines after we told him we were crossed and could get untangled If one of us went over eachother. He was not very professional in the way he talked with us, didn’t teach us in anyway- instead rediculed on what we did. At one point we got a fish all the way to the top of the water and it came off, he yelled at us that it was “a big fish” and we didnt hook it good enough. We spent probably 30 mins at the beginning of the morning with him catching bait. He couldn’t use a cast net at all and threw it maybe 10-15 times. Another boat stopped beside us and threw it once and got a net full. Even when we have been on charters in the past and not caught ONE fish we have had more fun than we did this time. It’s not that we didn’t catch much that’s the problem. It’s more frustrating that every boat around us was reeling them in left and right and we weren’t catching any in the same spot. I’m pretty sure most people would realize after hours in the same spot not catching something maybe we are doing something wrong.... Honestly I was disappointed with the amount we paid for what we got. It is a charter for a reason- to teach, make it fun, and be open to all levels of experience. even with the fishing experience we had we were talked to like we were idiots. I would hate to see how a child would be treated.

Once again went out fishing on the Carolina Blue with Captain John and were not disappointed! 4 trips over our week of vacation (Both sound and ocean) and I couldn’t imagine anything better. We caught tons of fish...cobia, albacore, sea bass, sheepshead, moon fish, flounder, triggers, mackerel and even two sharks! If you’re looking for a great charter with a fantastic captain look no further than Rock Solid fishing and Capt John.

We went out with Capt Aaron and Bob Tue morning 8/25. They put us on ribbon fish right away, caught a couple dozen. Then we fished buoys for cobia, dropping eel right on them, but they wouldn’t bite. Went out and caught some bait fish and came back and landed a 60 pound cobia. Finished off the day bring in a bunch of albecore, a mackerel and moon fish. Aaron and Bob were fantastic and worked hard all day to get us on fish. Will definitely go out with them again!!

A great four-hour outing with Rock Solid Fishing. Captain Aaron steered us to the right spots and found the fish, and mate Trey offered excellent help to our family of fishing novices. We caught black sea bass and tile fish, including seven keepers for a delicious fish fry dinner (Cajun-style). The ultimate though were the red drum that Captain Aaron found toward the end of the trip. We caught three 50 lb. plus monsters, one each for dad and his two sons. We fished on the Rock Solid, which was worth the extra cost. A memorable outing. Look no further than Rock Solid for your fishing charter at OBX.

Went fishing on the Southern Run with Capt. Mike with a party of 4. The boat was nice and comfortable, the captain was friendly and knowledgeable, and we caught our limit of speckled trout! I would definitely recommend the Southern Run through Rock Solid Fishing charters for your fishing needs.
