Great exterior for photo's for those that have watched the TV show. Friendly staff knowledgeable about the show and actors. We purchased a couple souvenirs from their store. The price for a ride in the cop car was too pricey for 2 people. It's a set rate $50.00 for up to 5 people in the car. We wished they had rates based on the number of occupants.

The Squad Car tours leave from here, but they actually are a separate business. I was wearing my USAF Retired cap when I went in and she gave me a P-38 can opener as a souvenir. She was about to give me a second when I entered again after the tour, but I reminded her she had give one to me an hour earlier.
It's small and crowded and there are things to buy, but no pins or stickers, which is what we collect from our travels.

We arrived on a Sunday on our way home from Tenn., so not much was open but this area was. The Andy Griffith Museum was nice but this is much more interactive, the gift shop was open and reasonable prices, the shop had a nice small town feel, very nice staff, clean and neat, they also had larger size t Shirts. Lots of photo opportunities wish we had been there when the squad car tours was open would definitely have been a stop and tour.

This was a pleasant trip but it’s not Mayberry. Remember Mount Airy is where Andy Griffith grew up and some of the people were representative of characters in the TV show but that’s pretty much all the towns have in common. Nothing in Mount Airy looks anything like Mayberry really. Even the little area they have at Wally’s is not built to look like the real sets of the courthouse etc. Back on Main Street mostly tourist shops. There is an Andy Griffith museum but we didn’t visit it, so can’t say anything about it. Now having said that I will say, it was fun still. Every person and shop owner we talked to was great and all could share stories about Andy Griffith, where he worked in town, and who some of the real life people actually were who some of the characters were based off. Overall we enjoyed the day trip to Mount Airy and the nostalgia of talking about Andy, Barney, Otis, Emmet, and Floyd. The folks at Wally’s Garage where great...loved the squad cars.

Not much to see here but it is a must stop on your Mayberry itinerary. The squad car tour embarks here and there are some antique cars on display. You can sit and rock on the front porch or enjoy a Peach NeHi soda, A Good photo op.
There is no fee to browse around Wally's but the squad car tour is $50 per car load.
Our guide told us the building used to be called "Wallace" and the tv show transposed it into Wally's.

There really was/is a Wally's Service Station, and it was there when Andy Griffith lived in Mt. Airy. We were told the building has not changed much from those days. Unfortunately, there was a death in the family the time we were there and we were unable to go inside and look at the shop. There are neat things around it...the replica courthouse, a store front area with Foley's market and Howard Sprague's office. The Darlings truck, a replica Darlings cabin...Mayberry Union High bus. Just a cool place to see! Don't miss it.

Squad cars here from the Andy Griffin show. Loads of photo ops and you can take a tour in a squad car too. The man who runs the tours is friendly and enjoys what he does! I think there are six cars. We were told there was a new one on the show every year and the old ones were given to the town. Interesting!

Squad car tour was a blast for Mayberry fans. Our driver was very knowledgeable about the show and pointed out all the interesting stuff around Mt. Airy relating to Mayberry. He also showed us other things of interest in the town. Wallys Service station has nice Mayberry souvenirs too. Like stepping back in time !

We visited Wally’s waiting for our Patrol Car Tour. Unique gifts inside. For us it was fun just seeing the activity, old cars stopping in, tow truck, and Darlin Farm and Truck. Very welcoming and fun. It is next to Mayberry Courthouse.

I was wondering if on Saturday my sister and I could get a brief video of us with the squad car and maybe the driver. Also, do I need to make a reservation? We don't want the tour but would pay for the video opportunity.
