- ShannaNew Smyrna Beach, Florida6 contributionsSuper friendly! Guide was amazing and very friendly. He was very patient with some members in the party that were nervous being on a horse for the first time. It was really cold and windy and at check-in they went the extra step and made sure we all had gloves and my daughter had a thicker jacket to stay warm! The horses are very calm and well trained. Would highly recommend everyone give them your business if interested in trail riding during your stay in the Asheville area.Visited March 2025Traveled with familyWritten March 18, 2025
- DauntLass3173 contributionsMy mom, sister, and I chose the two-hour trail ride. We ended up being in a group by ourselves, and we had a blast! At other trail experiences, we've had to wait thirty minutes sometimes to complete all of the safety trainings. However, here, we were given the reigns and were able to set off with our guide immediately which meant we could really enjoy the full two hours on the trails. We were there at the first of fall with dappled sunshine, fields of yellow wildflowers, yellow butterflies and yellow leaves raining around us. It was a golden time!! Halfway through, we were able to look into the gem mine and our guide (Melvin) helped pick out a few garnets for us. On the way back, there was a beautiful scenic overlook where Melvin helped capture some pictures. I recommend bringing a water bottle and maybe even a snack. They have handy saddle bags you can put your belongings in. Thank you for everything, Sandy Bottom!!Visited September 2024Traveled with familyWritten September 23, 2024
- Latonya H1 contributionThis was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. I have never been on a horse and quickly fell in love due to the environment and staff. Our guides Kelly and Saul (sp) were amazing and provided easy conversation. It felt like we were riding with 2 guides who loved what they did and wanted others to experience that joy. Every staff member was welcoming! Owner was a pure gift to speak with! If you get a chance, please book with this family establishment; they are on of a kind!Visited March 2025Traveled as a coupleWritten March 15, 2025
- Resort5588391 contributionMy husband and I have been on many trail rides through the years and this was by far the best one we have ever gone on! The guide Heather was very knowledgeable and friendly. She shared her experiences with ours regarding the various horses we rode. She was good with my husband letting him know how to not let his horse not to take a bit of a salad. The horses were the best we have been on and I would recommend this stable before all others. They take care of their horses and also the wonderful dogs that ran with us all along the trail. I would recommend the 2 hour trail ride as Heather let us stop off at the gem mine and Heather let us rest our horses. Please take my advice as every year try to take rides in the mountains and these people and the horses are the best! Five Stars!Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 25, 2024
- D M1 contributionrecently had the most wonderful experience horseback trail riding with my daughter. Our guides was Alex, she was knowledgeable and friendly, ensuring we felt safe and comfortable throughout the journey. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. I highly recommend. Best experience that I’ve had trail riding.Visited November 2024Traveled with familyWritten November 28, 2024
- Lisa T8 contributionsWent with 2 friends and joined 3 others and 2 guides on a 2 hour tour. It was nice to have a guide in the front and back of us to make us feel secure as we traveled up and down some steep terrain. Tour guide Matt made us feel comfortable and safe and was so informative in talking about the land we were riding on, the medicinal properties of the plants on the trail, and the excellent nature/temperament of the horses we were riding (as well as all 70 of the horses used for rides at this farm). I thoroughly enjoyed my horse Max and guide Matt. The scenery is breathtaking and worth taking a ride for that alone. My friends and I agreed that if we make it back to Asheville we would definitely take this tour again!Visited September 2024Traveled with friendsWritten September 11, 2024
- NicoleMiami Beach, Florida75 contributionsI did a lot of research before deciding on Sandy Bottom for my Asheville trail ride. The staff were great and the horses were in excellent condition, well fed and maintained. There are over 500 acres on this gorgeous property! I recommend a one hour ride for kids / newbies and two hour for experienced adults. Another perk is their address shows on GPS as some of the others lose cell service. I ubered and was able to get out there fine but even though I pre-arranged a ride back, they never came and I could not get one back to Asheville, so I recommend pre-arranging private transportation. It took about 40 min from downtown Asheville. By horse was Pebbles as she was very well behaved. I spoke with the owner operator and his family, and they were all wonderful people that love what they do!Visited August 2024Traveled soloWritten August 8, 2024
- Kaitlin V4 contributionsMy whole family loved our experience at Sandy Bottom trail rides! Our guides, Zoe and Brian, were very familiar with the horses and the trail, making small talk without patronizing our elementary age daughters. They offered advice for our novice skill set and si, se habla español. We chose the three hour ride, which included an hour ride out to an old garnet mine. We stopped there for an hour to dig up and rinse a nice handful each of rough gemstones. The ride back included a pause for individual and group photos with a gorgeous mountain backdrop. The trail was well maintained, and our horses matched our various temperaments wonderfully. We definitely recommend this business and hope to return next time our travels have us in the Asheville area.Visited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten May 25, 2024
- Jani K1 contributionAwesome trail riding experience! Initially I was very nervous (1st time rider) but our encouraging and experienced guide, Zoe, and my horse, Pebbles, knew exactly what they were doing and I learned (and relaxed) a lot. Amazing scenic views, nice sun/shade combo on the ~ 3 mile (2hr) trail, and a stop at the old garnet gem mine - plus everyone was so nice! We’ll be back!Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 29, 2024
- CoopJenDayton, Ohio59 contributionsMy husband and I picked this horse ride company because of all the positive reviews! We arrived about 1 hour early (did not know how long would take us to get there from Pigeon Forge) and they let us go on our ride right away. It was just the two of us and the guide. First I will say that they put us on 2 GIANT horses. I ride a 15 hand Tenn Walker at home and so I was not used to riding something so Tall and Wide. Yikes! I hurt for sure! So did my Hubby! Wow his horse was even bigger! Not good! But on the plus side both horses were well behaved! Second, our guide was nice but he did not speak ANY english. Both my husband and I feel that our ride would have been better if the guide spoke English because we read in other reviews where the guide talks to / shares information about all where they are riding, mountain info, area info, etc. That would have been nice. But we had a VERY Quiet 2 hour ride. The ride is a slow walk pace. The entire time. Going up and down and across the mountains was cool and there were some great views! Overall we enjoyed ourselves. But we would have enjoyed it more if 1) the horses would have been normal size and not giants and 2) if the guide spoke English and shared with us information about where we were / what we were seeing. and 3) If this wasn't a 90 min drive to and from our hotel in PF.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 18, 2024

This was my second time riding and doing the 2hr ride. Alex was my Trailride leader and was very personable and the ride was absolutely beautiful. The staff were very attentive and personable which means a lot to me. The grounds are very well kept and the horses all look happy. In fact the horse I rode was Big Momma and I got a kick out of her always wanting to put her head down to eat at every chance she got which just added laughter and joy to the ride. Alex's horse kept talking to his sister who was not far off which was comical. I highly recommend the 2hr ride and the staff at Sandy Bottom Trail Rides are really great. The staff are all experienced and very attuned to the needs of those of us riding. I rode a year ago and I had difficulty at that point getting on and off the horse and they helped me feel safe in doing so. I highly encourage you to enjoy the 2hr ride and relax and take in the scenery and the ride.

Our guide Bret, was wonderful; it was so easy to talk and ride with him. He made sure we were safe, and properly saddled before we began our one hour ride. We were fit with the PERFECT horses, Bret explained our terrain and kept the 3 of us fully engaged during our ride - to include time for a quick pic. We had a wonderful ride. We definitely recommend Sandy Bottoms, you'll have a wonderful time with great people who not only care about their horses, but their guest also!!

Four of us took the one hour trail ride and we enjoyed it very much. The gal who was in charge the day we were there (Saturday in October) was on the ball and assured things went smoothly. This place makes sure you're on the right horse and they make sure it's easy to get on an off the horse (for those of us who have ridden very little this was hugely helpful). Our guide (a guy) seemed to be a competent horseman and guided us safely but he never introduced himself to us and interacted minimally with us. We did get some great photos and had a nice ride. We would definitely recommend. It took about 45 minutes drive from Asheville.

Drove a couple of hours to come here with my daughter and future daughter in law for my birthday weekend. Beautiful place with lovely views. Paid $350 ish dollars for the 3 of us to have a private ride. They pick the horses you ride , which is fine, except I did not get to ride a horse. I was given a mule. While the sweet mule did fine, I was very disappointed. I didn’t want to cause a scene and ask to switch. I do think if you pay to ride horses you should be riding horses. We made to best of it and had fun. Just be warned you may be on a mule not a horse!

This was absolutely a great way to ride. We arrived early to check-in. A 3 hour tour was leaving out ahead of us and they all looked the part- if you ride or have rode before, I would recommend the 3 hour tour. We booked for 2 hours and had a variety of ages and ride levels in our tour! Tour guide Justin was excellent! Another guide, Kevin, gave us a quick lesson on navigating the trail. The trail was easy to follow and the sights were beautiful. You can see the mountains of Tennessee from this location. Everyone laughed and talked throughout the ride as if we had all known each other for a while! My own horse was pretty lazy. If you happen to get Daisy, she takes her own sweet time. It was definitely enjoyable and relaxing. I would definitely return again.

We had a great family trail ride. Josh was our guide. He told us the history of this beautiful land. We experienced wooded areas, high mountains with beautiful views, pasture land, and broad meadows. We took a break at the Garnet mine, Josh gave us the history of the mine. Our 2 hour ride was great. The horses are in great condition and a pleasure to ride. We finished our ride and met Mr. Jackie and Jacqueline. We had a great time visiting with them on the back porch and learning about the family and history of the beautiful ranch. If you’re planning on a trail ride, we highly recommend Sandy Bottom Trail Rides!! Beautiful land, great horses, and friendly people!!

We had a group of 8, ages 4, 7, 8,12 and adults. We had experienced horse riders and complete beginners. Everyone did awesome and had a blast. The guides, Justin,Justin and sweet Hannah were wonderful. Super informative and knowledgeable about the tour and the horses. This tour is in the mountains of NC- beautiful scenery and views of the mountains and valleys Of The area. I did wear a fanny pack so could Use my phone to take pictures. They supply saddle bags for “Stuff” I would recommend bringing water for you to drink during the rise. We had the 2 hour ride so we stopped at the garnet mine- kids had a blast looking for treasures and it was a good horse break! This is a family run business and you can see the pride they take in their work. I highly recommend!! And their online booking tool is so easy!!

We decided at the last minute to sign up for the 2 hour trail ride, and we are very glad we did. Everyone who works there was super friendly, and we were really happy they were able to fit us in with a last minute reservation. We really liked our guide, Connor, who shared lots of information with us about the horses, the stable and the area. The area we rode through was beautiful and it was fun to be able to cover so much ground without having to do any work. The views are really beautiful, and 2 hours was the perfect amount of time to be able to get high enough to really see everything properly. I would recommend this stable to anyone looking for a positive experience with a horseback ride.

Sandy Bottoms is an excellent program with outstanding service. The owner and family went out of their way to accommodate our family's trip after some rain impacted the trails. They provided the best service and hospitality. Our guide, Matt, was outstanding and is a true expert and horseman. We will be back and recommend this barn for anyone looking for a beautiful ride on well cared-for and beautiful horses. The gem-mine experience as also a lot of fun and the kids loved digging around for raw granets! Thank you all at Sandy Bottom for a great time!

Great experience! I was taking my son, 11, on his first trail ride (I have ridden a lot and he has never ridden). The horses were perfect and very sure footed on the Mountain side. The views were great- I took a ton of pictures. Alex, our guide, was perfect! She was very competent and helpful when my son couldn’t get his horse to turn around and back track 20 yards for a turtle I spotted. Trails were perfect combo of rustic but open and clean.

I don't know about the spa either. From the looks of the horseback riding facilities and farm, I'd be surprised there was a spa in anyway affiliated with the Trail Rides business.
