At the base of Table Rock, in the Table Rock parking lot/picnic area, is one of the prettiest places one can be. It is actually on a ridgeline. From this parking lot, one can hike South to the Chimneys (flat, easy hike), then hike further to The Mummy Buttress/NC Wall areas, which are 600' - 1,000 ' technical rock-climbs.

The views are spectacular. You drive for roughly 30 minutes on a dirt/gravel switchback road. Hike is strenuous, but doable. Just at the start of our decent we clearly heard a large lion that was not too happy.

After a 30 minute drive on a dirt road, you will reach the Table Rock Mountain parking lot. The hike to the top is about a mile, and it is not too steep. Once at the top, there's beautiful views of the nearby mountains, the Appalachian foothills, Lake James, etc. You should be careful of the cliffs towards the end... More

Table rock is an excellent hike.It begins at the parking lot(one note-a rather long drive in from US-181) It is also near Hawksbill ,which I find less appealing. The trail starts at the parking lot. It is all uphill(moderately strenuous). There are some good views into the gorge from the trail. It is not a long hike(30min?). Once on top... More

Table Rock is definitely a favorite of mine. It is a moderate hike and has excellent views in several areas, especially at the top. It overlooks the Linville Gorge and even has spots to camp. Is great for a day hike!

Only a mile hike but not easy. You are often climbing over rocks that act as steps. Some very high. Several places to step over and view Linville Gorge The views make it well worth the effort. Dogs allowed. Small children did well and loved seeing the chimneys and rock climbers. Warning only out houses provided

Beautiful view of the mountain, lake, boat rentals, nice swimming and picnic area and trail. Camping sites or cabins also available. Lodge is perfect for weddings or other events. $2 per person fee to enter off season, $5 during the summer. You can go to part of the lake (no swimming) and headquarters with no fee required.
