I've been out with CFRA twice now and had a great time both times. They have it all down to a science. The staff are all very warm, friendly and efficient. I had a chance to chat with one of the owners on the latest visit and they were awesome as well.. truly caring about the customer experience. I will not hesitate to go back and continue recommending people!

Our group had four adults and two kids (ages 5 and 7) and we completed the tubing trip in under 3 hrs with just a bit of paddling. The slow current enabled us to see turtles, egrets, hawks and fish. The bottom of the river is VERY rocky so you absolutely need a solid sole on your water shoes. We found the check-in/out process super easy and the staff informative and friendly. We had so much fun we plan on going back to kayak. Highly recommend Cape Fear River Adventures!

Did the tube river run. Everything was great for the most part. Friendly staff, all the good you'd expect to include a safety brief that they stated, if you have a medical emergency, they will come in as medal boat, to retrieve you. Now of course, I know, meaninng if your hurt, etc. Now here's the major screw up. One of our party was called by a EMT, saying her husband had a heart attack, and they were taking him to the emergency room. Well we called the the folks who ran the business, at 1:07 saying we had a emergency, what happened, and wanted to be evacuated. The young lady asked, where are you ? Like we knew....so we described what we seen, which was just passed the first drop if you will, and a small island with a tree in the middle. She said , your at the rock garden, your at the end almost, just go there and get on the bus. Well as we tried to walk the rest of the river, to hurry up, busted up legs, knees, banged to hell, found out after the fact, we were only half way. At 233pm, we reached the end. After his 2nd heart attack. I question their ability to help with any emergency like they claim, and to the young lady who took the call, just throat punch yourself. You don't tell someone, to keep going, your at the end, when clearly you didn't know where we were located. Thankfully he's alive, but imagine if he didn't, by like 2 hours, that time it took to reach the end. Will never return to the business, and would not trust them to help, with a emergency.

Hello, Dennis. We are very happy to hear that your friend’s husband is ok (to clarify to our readers, he was NOT on the Cape Fear River at the time of his heart-attack). We understand your situation was stressful! However, our safety briefs are clear: we will retrieve you if you are on the river and you are not experiencing a life-threatening medical emergency. All life-threatening medical emergencies should be called in to 911 before any calls to Cape Fear River Adventures are made. The briefing also addresses the fact that the river is a wild and unpredictable environment. Based on your friend’s conversation with our employee, and after describing certain landmarks on the river, we determined:
1.) our CFRA Safety watercraft would have taken longer to reach your party than if you had continued walking the rest of the way to the end-point.
2.) The rock-garden on the last leg of the tubing trip is a section of river that our safety boat cannot traverse at summer-low river levels.
Those are the reasons we could not send our boat to retrieve you. Even EMS Rescue Teams would have taken some time to locate and reach you. While we realize that visitors are not familiar with the river, we still needed to gather all possible information from them in these situations. Based on the answers given to us by your friend, your group was very close to the take-out point. After the initial phone call, we immediately sent out an extra van to wait and pick you up as soon as you reached the take-out.
Our team members have extensive knowledge and experience with the river and the employee you berated on the phone was helping in every way she could, with the direct assistance of our General Manager who was standing right beside her during the call. We understand that being in stressful situations when things are out of one's control can be very upsetting, but making demeaning and rude comments to an employee who is trying their very best to assist, is NOT okay in our book.
We are very sorry that your group was out on the river and not easily accessible to retrieve in as quick a manner as you’d have preferred. While any time spent outdoors and in a wilderness environment has countless benefits and is a lot of fun, there are definitely dangers too. Having experienced quite a few close calls ourselves whilst adventuring in the wild unknown, we understand the feeling of alone-ness in cases of emergency. We try our VERY best to make sure everyone we send out is confident in not only our abilities to assist, but in their own capacities as well. Although this was not the best experience for you, we encourage you to continue playing outdoors! Thank you for your business!

I don't know what everyone else is talking about neither of the two people running the place seem like they cared at all. The place sells itself as being a "family adventure" but that was not the service that we got. My wife and I and two kids rented a canoe for a two hour trip down the river, for some reason they make you canoe up stream and then when you're ready to come back down you turn around yourself. Traveling up stream should not be recommended to amateurs. We have no experience in canoeing and I thought they were going to give us a quick class on it because it's harder than you think. Also we were not sure how deep the water was and it looked more like a swamp than a river.
*No introduction on the habitat, wildlife, or what to do in case of an emergency.
*No emergency phone numbers just in case you get lost or lose a paddle or something of that sort.
*Start off and drop off loading dock was harder than expected especially returning.
*Probably should have a first aid kit in the canoe, keep in mind this place cares about whole "family."
* Will not teach you how to canoe properly or ask if you had any experience
Very disappointed in the adventure we took off and returned back to the office in 15 minutes. There was no offer of refund, place is a rip off and they do not care about the safety of their customers. You sign a waiver in the beginning stating if anything happens you cannot sue, zip quest does the same but makes sure you have a safe fun adventure, this place ensures it's going to be a nightmare.

We were so sorry to see you folks leave in such a hurry last Saturday and will do what we can to right the wrong!
We have been a family owned and operated business for over 20 years. Our livelihood depends on happy clients! Great customer experiences and overall safety are our number one concerns. We will certainly do everything we can to make sure ALL of our customers’ safety and river experiences meet the highest of expectations!
Again, we were so very disappointed to hear of your family’s unhappy experience. We are happy to offer you a complimentary trip, so you can give canoeing another try. Being on the river is such a wonderful adventure and a truly great opportunity for kids and adults to enjoy the beautiful outdoors. Please give us a call at your convenience to schedule your “re-do” at (910) 891-9348.

My friend and I arrived at the shack at 1 pm; posted close time was 3 pm. Employee would not let us out on the river because she "didn't have a babysitter." Was REALLY looking forward to kayaking but was unable to do so. SUCH a disappointment.

Hello! I’m very sorry I couldn't help you and your friend last Friday. Being a business owner, I hate to turn customers away. However, our business policy states that reservations are *strongly* recommended and walk-ins will be accommodated as best as we possibly can. As I explained to you on Friday, I had an already scheduled shuttle pick-up to tend to when y’all approached me for a rental. Your request would have required me to keep the shop open beyond normal business hours, which contradicts with my family’s obligations. I’d love for you to give us another chance! Please call and make a reservation so we can be sure to get you guys out!

This was my 3rd SUPyoga class and I was about to give up and surrender to only land yoga. Brandy was AWESOME! She is a great yoga instructor. It is worth the hour drive. I will definitely be back for SUPyoga and other river adventures with my family as the entire staff was very friendly and accommodating.

Great day for all. It was a LONG, SLOW, HOT & FUN trip. Pleasant and friendly staff. Register on line to save yourself and group from waiting in line. Review the website to prepare for your trip and take all recommendations seriously or you will be miserable. This is a river not a luxury spa. Pre-made sandwiches/lunches are a wise choice and easy to eat while floating. No long wait for the shuttle back.

Great day trip. We rented two canoes and went upstream a few miles to some class 1 rapids, then back. The river was very calm and easy to navigate both ways. The staff was very helpful and friendly and equipment in excellent condition. Definitely something to do again. Highly recommend it!

This place gets very busy on Saturday so go early to avoid a crazy rush. Also, register online BEFORE going and make sure EVERYONE signs the agreement before you go. Lots of people waited to do this until after they arrived and it causes a backup in the checkin room.
Bring LOTS of sunscreen as it takes about five hours to float the two miles and you will roast! You can fit two small coolers or one large cooler in the cooler float, so bring lots of drinks and food as you will need it!
Oh, and wear water shoes. Your feet will get cut up from the rocks otherwise.

How much is it if you use your own tube?
RedCanoe42
Raleigh, NC42 contributions
Hi Cindy! There is a river access ramp fee of $5 per personal water vessel/personal river tube if you put in at our office in Lillington. We do offer shuttle service (return trip from Wildlife Rd access) for $10/person and the $5 ramp fee is waived if you use any of our rental or shuttle services. Thanks for your question! -megan

Can we bring our own equipment and ride up with the shuttle? Of course we will pay for the ride. If not does anyone know where the closes public access is at the top of the 2 miler? Thanks!

Hello! Of course, if you've got your own equipment we offer shuttle services. Please give us a call to talk about the parts of the river you plan on paddling/tubing. It sounds like you've never been on this part of the Cape Fear River, so definitely give us a call! Even if you don't end up going or using our services, we want to make sure you understand what different parts of the river are appropriate for which activities (paddling, tubing, experience levels). Call (919) 495-5555. We would love to arrange shuttle for you, and help you enjoy the river safely and with knowledge! -Megan

What is the best way to pack snacks id the cooler will be full of ice and water?
RedCanoe42
Raleigh, NC42 contributions
There is usually a few inches of "give" between the edges of the cooler tube and your cooler (depending on your cooler's size). If you need to, you may rent as many cooler tubes as you need. Hope that this helps!
What are the prices for tubing rentals?
RedCanoe42
Raleigh, NC42 contributions
Tubing rental is $20 per tube, it includes tube itself, pfd, and shuttle to the starting point at the end of your trip. Thanks!
