This beautifully landscaped park on the back side of an interstate rest stop gives fitting recognition to Viet Nam vet. Sooo many from NC, so many casualties, so many not treated well when they got home. Now they are honored and recognized. As cousin of a lovely adopted child from Viet Nam, I am very thankful for their service, and that she did not grow up under the Hanoi regime.

This place needs to be advertised! Only a small sign immediately before an exit to a Highway rest stop indicates its existence. And we had to search it out even after stopping because it is 300 yards back a path through the woods. But once there the memorial is wonderful, serene, beautiful and inspiring. Only takes a few minutes to visit and the memories will linger.

On Hwy 85, heading north at about mile marker 100 is a really nice rest stop. Besides having everything a rest stop normally has there is a trail to a Memorial that most people drive right past. After you've had a break, take a short walk down the trail, cross the foot bridge and take a moment to reconnect with the past and the beauty of a tiny park with a wonderful Vietnam Memorial. It's not huge, but it will make you take a moment and reflect. From the flags to the dedicated wall and plaques; the peaceful beauty deserves a few minutes. Walk the circle path inside the memorial, read the plaques, admire the landscaping, sit down on a bench and listen to the silence of nature. And remember who and what was lost in the jungles of Vietnam.

Located at mm100 going south and mm99 northbound; it's easier accessed from the south side. From the north bound side you have a short walk through the woods and across a peaceful stream to reach the memorial.
As it should be, this is a somber place to honor those from NC who gave it all. The Viet-Nam war was controversial for many and marked a less than happy chapter in American history. None the less; thousands of soldiers were sent to this small SE Asian country to help defend it from the onslaught from the north. Many of our men were lost and this memorial in between the rest stops is a fitting remembrance similar to the wall in Washington. If you have a friend or relative who served, go there with them.

A little slice of heaven. Great rest stop, not to mention there are dog walks, two rest stop stations with bathrooms and snacks, and plenty of shade! Not to mention the beautiful Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Highly recommend that you stop here!

I am very happy this Memorial was erected here in honor of all the North Carolina veterans who fought in the Viet Nam War. I am aware that politically this war was not popular, but the enemy did not fight any differently because of that. Many of our finest men gave their lives for this country and as such they are Heroes with a Capital "H".
