Our gems are natural and only come from our mountains. We come out to the flume to identify the stones. We will custom wire wrap any stone you find. We also will cut, polish and set in gold or silver any stone. We can also do some jewelry repairs. We teach stone cutting and wire wrapping. We are open daily rain or shine, flume is partially covered. We have jewelry for sale all year. We also have buckets "to go" take it home and do it there. You never know what treasures you will find. The guided gold panning trips are now available. We also do guided gem mining trips where we find 'um, spend the day or half a day, we take all the equipment with us. There is gold in every creek and river here. And we are "plopped" right on US 64 in beautiful Lake Toxaway, we have parking available from cars to motor homes even school buses. Groups welcome, ask Curly about our group discounts.

We had a great time. This was our second gem mining experience this trip and this place was far better than the first. They were so nice to the kids and helped us find and identify the gems. The kids were so excited that they now know the different kinds of gems that are in the mountains. We will definitely... More

I rate this low only because of the high price for thier salted buckets which were disappointingly poor in quantity for the price ($20). However I would give 4 stars for the owners love of a good story and willingness to share his knowledge. He was also willing to display some of the jewelry he has and each piece has... More

When you have mines you get good and low quality stones. Sorry you were disappointed but for the price we have alot of stones in our buckets. And we really don't check the quality of the stones if we did noone would ever get gem quality stones, and some have. But we try to make everyone has fun and they... More

Staff friendly , helpful and nice to our kids. Helped us several times to guide us on what to do with kids and even opened the shop early because we were standing outside.

Cindy and Curtis was great! We had a great time. It think we must have spent 4 hours with them. It was really special because Geology is a sort of hobby for my 13 year old son Jason. He loved mining for the gems and Cindy and Curtis taught us a lot about them. Curtis taught Jason how to use... More

I thought we were going to gem mine for the kids (age 5 and 3) which we did and they enjoyed very much. But I had a ton of fun as well...the owners stayed with us and identified the gems for us which was unlike any precious gem mining experience. The best was that they demonstrated how to cut and... I suppose this was the gem mine we hit on the way back from whitewater falls. 4 yr old daughter loved the rocks and searching for them in the baskets. Plenty of pretty rocks in the small bucket.

Over the years my wife and I have taken the kids to several gem mines in NC. None could compare to the amount of gems and size of what we found at Mountain Treasures!! I would highly recommend anyone going to the Lake Toxaway area of NC looking for something exciting to do and a very educational experience for the... More

We had a great time at Mountain Treasures Gem Mine. Our two kids (6 and 8) had a wonderful experience and the owners could not have been more friendly and accommodating. They took their time with kids showing them the proper way to look for the gems (which were plentiful) and made sure that they were aware of what they... More

Very nice owners. They are knowledgable and helpful. It may look a little rustic from the outside but it should, your gem mining. Stones are local to the region. We found sapphires, ruby, emerald, topaz and Quartz.
