Lake Lure - Great Visit
Aug 2019
So over Labor Day weekend we visited Lake Lure with two other families for the first time. Had a really great experience! Through Airbnb we rented a large 4 bedroom cabin overlooking Lake Lure and the majestic views of the mountains. One recommendation on accommodations is that while we had a great time and enjoyed our stay I would recommend getting a lake front home if possible.

The Lake itself is man made and is neatly nestled in a valley between several mountains. (Reminded me of Washington state) It deepest part is over 140 feet deep so it is a pretty big lake. We rented a pontoon boat for the day and we easily saw the whole lake. The water was perfect to swim in and there was a lot of non-wake areas and alcoves to park the boat to swim and fish. The lake seemed clean to me and was very enjoyable.

Surrounding the Lake Lure area is the iconic Chimney Rock and Hendersonville NC. Chimney Rock and the village is less than a five minute drive from Lake Lure and is a very small version of a Gatlinburg type downtown area. Hendersonville is the apple producing area of NC and while we were there they had their Apple Festival going. For all the hype this was very mediocre at best.

I think in the fall to see the colors Lake Lure and the surrounding areas would be fantastic.

Destination wedding location

Stayed 2 nights attending a wedding ceremony. Beautiful lake and mountain views with a golf course. Good place to unwind although the service staff at the restaurant were not very friendly.

Unwelcome Centre
Jul 2019 • Couples
Went in here today (17/7/19) to get some information on places to stay in the area. Was made to feel very unwelcome the woman manning the centre needs to find a different vocation.
Signs up saying no loitering. Come on people are looking at the information and displays.

This is a beautiful place
Jul 2019
This is a beautiful place that is a must to visit. This little town, Lake Lure Village, snuggled up in the mountain range, is quiet and laid back. Took the pontoon boat tour (great) and went to Scoops ice cream (great) visited the village and some small shops. Shops were the same old stuff just a different location stamped next to "made in China. Overall Lake Lure itself is worth the trip.

Skip the "Welcome Center".
Oct 2018 • Couples
We spent a long weekend in Asheville and took a different route home so we could stop by Lake Lure. All we knew about the area was that a scene from Dirty Dancing was filmed there. We stopped at the Welcome Center to ask what we could see or where to go to get the best view of things. The woman behind the desk was very unwelcoming. She acted annoyed with my questions. When I asked about where the movie was filmed, she asked "Which movie?" although the room is filled with references to Dirty Dancing. She was also quick to correct me that "PART" of the movie was filmed there. Really? That movie may be the only reason many people come to visit your Lake. Why have a "Welcome Center" if you staff it with people who act as if you shouldn't be there? Maybe she was having a bad day. In that profession, you need to take a sick day if that's the case.

Great Summer Day Trip
Jul 2018 • Couples
Lake Lure is a wonderful place for local North and South Carolinians to spend a weekend or a warm summer day in the sun. People come for the fame, but the locals embrace it.

Lake Lure shops
Aug 2018 • Friends
Had a nice time passing through the town. Shops and restaurants are plentiful. Most shops carry similar items. Behind some shops you can access the river. This was enjoyable on a hot day to dip your feet in. Its scenic, clean and serene. Make sure you see it.

Welcome Center not a “Welcoming”Place
Jul 2018 • Couples
Was excited to bring an out of towner to Lake Lure for a boat ride and dinner. After parking we went into the welcome center to see what was on display and what recommendations they might have. When we walked ina woman was standing by the door with some cleaning supplies in hand and looked at us as though we had interrupted her. I then asked if they were closed, thinking that perhaps the place was not open. She said sternly- yes we are open but the bathrooms are closed. We were quite taken aback at her outburst and obvious dislike of having been interrupted . Needless to say we looked around a minute or two and then made our escape. I apologized to my guest for the unwelcome behavior we had received. I volunteer at a Visitor Center in North Carolina and am sensitive to the first impressions tourists receive when they walk in. From other reviews, I can only hope this person was having a bad day and treats visitors with more respect on her “good days”. And I certainly hope she is not a paid employee.

When visiting the area, make sure to stop in at the Welcome Center. The staff are very friendly and helpful and they have a wide range of information available regarding the area. The center is clean and modern and well worth a stop. Highly recommend.
