We enjoyed looking around the new Avalon Pier. The fish aquarium was a popular stop for all the visitors. It has a nice gift shop too. Inside the gift shop is a place you can sit and watch the fishermen and the surfers.

We don't live that far away and decided to go to Avalon FP for the night to fish. Needless to say, if you're a woman...after midnight there is NO restroom! This can be tricky with kids too! We got there about 10:30 and were charged a whole day fee of $12.50 per person and our pass was only good until... More

We went to the Avalon pier because it was the closest to where we were staying. The atmosphere is a little rough and the pier is a lot rickety. The whole structure moves a lot when people walk on it, yikes. There were a lot of rowdy teens in the parking lot just hanging out and looking for trouble. We... More

Our family of 4 stopped by to check it out... $2 per person is not a lot of money but we didn't feel it was worth spending on this shabby place. I made the mistake of using the restroom on our way out... it was dirty and gross. Noticed there were lots of shady characters hanging out in the parking... More

If you want a different scene for a day on the beach go to this pier and fish a little or just sit and take in the sun and the ocean sounds. Sea gulls abundant and dolphins!

My family of 13 and I gave this pier plenty of chances to earn our business. First day of the trip a few of us tried to buy a beer and walk down the pier. The women took the 22 year olds IDs in our group. She the said "Nope, I'm all set!" She took the IDs and throw them... More

The Nags Head Fishing Pier is much nicer, has a restaurant and bar, and clean(er) bathrooms. The Outer Banks Fishing Pier is the best of the three that I visited. This pier is okay if it's walking distance from your rental, but otherwise, drive four or five more miles and go to Nags Head or Outer Banks' Piers. They are... More

I fish frequently at Avalon Pier. Was last there in early June. Always lament the lack of food service other than candy bars and packs of nabs, that sort of thing. When I visited more recently, I noticed a loss of some clutter as I approached the service counter. They now have a snack bar that includes BBQ, burgers, that... More

Took my sons there for night fishing. We were looking forward to a relaxing night fishing. This place is more like a sleazy bar than a fishing pier. Drunks stumbling around the pier, golf cart driving up and down scaring the fish, and loud people. They also tried slipping in a $15 overcharge. If you go there, go in the... More
