have been on the French Broad over 50 times in the last 10yrs, mainly the wesfeldt to bent tree run and bent tree to hominy creek(thru the biltmore estate) and onto french broad river park. tried the run from lazy otter to wesfeldt(7mi run) saturday 5 Sept, put in at lazy otter, matt and crew were very accommodating, and informative....great run, early morning 8:30, misty, eerie with all the spiderwebs in the trees covered with dew...plenty of deep water compared to aforementioned trips...no rocks or shallows to contend with...tree lined banks, peaceful, no highway noise...is definitely the prettiest part of the river so far...will continue my journeys upstream...Lazy Otter website and videos very informative...thanks gang

A wonderful, easy 7-mile paddle on the French Broad River is the experience - a nice relaxing, not too challenging way to enjoy some serenity and see some wildlife along the way. From the booking, through the pre-trip briefing, the trip itself, and the pick-up at the end of the trip - everything was done top notch. Equipment is in great shape. Matt provides a phone on each kayak that allows him to track progress toward the finish. You are your own guide on this particular trip. The only obstacles are the fallen trees, which add to the scenery. There are limited opportunities to get out of the kayak once on the river - so plan accordingly for the 2.5-3 hour trip. In terms of wildlife - we spotted 3 Banded Kingfishers, a handful of other birds both in the trees and near the water, some turtles sunning themselves at the waterline, a muskrat that was checking us out until we got nearby, and a few jumping fish. There is plenty of shade from the trees lining the river, but also plenty of chance to be in the sun. We were very pleased with choosing Matt and Lazy Otter Outfitters for our day on the French Broad River.

We had so much fun kayaking on the French Broad River! The weather was delightful and we were some of the only ones on this portion of the river. It is so very relaxing and peaceful! The river's current moves you along at a nice slow pace, or you can pick it up by paddling a bit. The scenery is wonderful too! :)

What a great 3 hours. I probably should not write this as I am definitely going to go back and dont want the secret to get out. A truly fun relaxing trip. Matt was great, safe and professional. Like having the French Broad to ourselves using state of the art Kayaks with GPS so he knows where we are. Safety course at beginning and was waiting for us at end. If you love to kayak this is for you.

Great “water safari” on the French Broad River, quiet, peaceful and beautiful. The Lazy Otter Outfitters are well organized, which made for an uncomplicated outing from beginning to end. We thoroughly enjoyed our excursion.
