We had a great time out on the inter coastal water with Capt Cane! Booked a 4 hour trip and with the know-how and experience of Capt Cane we started pulling speckled trout in one after another! By the end of the 4 hours we had enough trout to last us the rest of our family vacation. Highly recommend. We will be booking again next time we go to Holden Beach.

After trying to go out twice and Mother Nature wouldn't cooperate, we finally set out on charter on a beautiful but brisk morning. The Captain was very good and moved us around until we found fish. The best part of the trip was catching Spanish Mackeral. We kept 6-8 but probably had about 20 caught. We started out in front of Holden Beach and then went to Oak Island where we caught most of our fish. The Captain was very knowledgeable and was excellent explaining the best way to catch the fish. Great day for my nephew and I.

This is our second time using Ollie Raja and once again a great time. I took out my two nephews and son (ages 9, 13, and 16) for a 1/2 day intercoastal trip. Capt Lane was exceptional. He had knowledge of fishing this area and patience with younger fisherman. Another successful trip with fresh black drum fillets for dinner. Will continue to use Ollie Raja anytime I'm in the area.

Booked a 4 hour offshore. Beautiful day, but turned into more of a boat ride. Myself, my son, his son, and my son-in-law. My first concern was when we went west out of the dock, and then headed east after leaving the intracoastal. Captain Cane (the only other person on the boat besides us) stopped once and checked the live well (for bait?). We finally stopped off the end of the pier looking for baitfish on the surface. Nothing there. Drove a bit further east and stopped at another spot looking for bait. Nothing there. "Fortunately" he had brought some frozen bait. Went to a fishing spot, and spent awhile longer while he rigged the poles. On other charters, the first mate did this while the captain drove the boat. Finally got some frozen bait in the water and started trolling. Nothing there. Captain Cane contacted someone who was evidently catching fish. Lines were pulled in, and we went to that location (off Bald Head Island). Hooked into a fish shortly after. Got him close to the boat and Cane grabbed the gaff. The fish went to the back of the boat, and the Cane had to drop the gaff and grab the rod away to get the fish to the side. Had the first mate had the gaff and the captain been driving the boat, this would not have been necessary. The fish made another run. We began working it back in, but it got off. We hooked two other fish, but never had them on long enough to even start reeling them in. Then we were out of time, and headed back. Of course, this time we went the short distance and cut to the intracoastal at the east end of the island. So no fresh bait, no first mate, and no fish.

On a family vacation at Holden Beach, we booked with Capt Cain on a 6hr deep sea excursion. We fished several very different techniques targeting several different species and had a great time going each. Our best luck was with Spanish mackerel, one was even of citation size. Captain Cain was very knowledgeable and a lot of fun. Our 6hr trip went very quickly. Highly recommend this trip; he was very reasonably priced for the experience we had!

We had Captain Casey on this Inshore trip for drum, red and black, and trout, Sept 30th, 2021. She ran an excellent charter. We started very close to 7 am. Went to docks on the ICW where myself and family have caught drum before. However, this morning, no one home but croaker and pins. So, Captn Casey took us east to Lockwood Folly River and my friend and I had an excellent morning. We caught a large number of black drum. My friend and I asked Captn to only keep a few for supper. We are concerned for overfishing. She was agreeable which was a pleasant surprise. Many Captains want the customer to take all the fish so the Marketing looks fantastic. Since no red drum went on the hook, we went through the inlet and out to a wreck on the ocean. That was neat to see and although we hooked up whitings, spots, black bass, and a rather large pigfish, no red drum. Did get one really good hit but the unobserved fish ran back the wreck and the line was cut. Time was running out and Captn Casey took us back in the ICW and under the Bridge for one last round of red drum fishing. Captn Casey was very knowledgeable about the business and the area. Finally, she deftly filleted the 4 large black drum we caught. I would definitely plan to have Captn Casey again.

We are very disappointed with our experience. It definitely wasn’t worth $600!! The first half of the trip was spent with the captain searching for bait. He only put out 2 lines for six people and wouldn’t let anyone do anything other than reel in the line. They unfortunately didn’t catch any keepers, (which we have no issues with, we are fully aware a fish isn’t guaranteed)they did catch a small shark, (which you aren’t allowed to keep)but the captain killed it in the process of taking the hook out in an extremely unnecessary manner, and threw it back. Overall a sad experience, I guess we expected to be able to fish, not just watch someone else do it.

We went out just after hurricane isaias with the expectation that fishing was going to be tough. Captain Casey delivered. Very knowledgeable and exceptional with our young children. There were times when she would throw the line in for our kids and they would immediately real in a fish. She was great all around and we would definitely charter again.

While down with the family for a weekend at the beach we decided to do a little fishing. The professionalism and care given by this group is truly unmatched. And they know their fishing. Captain Josh was the best and took care of every need. Before the storms ran us off we were into fish from start to finish including my daughter’s first shark. Big thanks to Josh and all the crew at Ollie Raja. Would recommend to anyone. We will definitely back be and look forward to seeing Capt Josh and the rest of the family at Ollie Raja. The Richardsons

Only 2 bring-home fish for over $400 investment. Would you be satisfied? Boat and motor and tackle were first-rate. My 16 y/o son and I are not rookie fishermen, it was a very hot day which may have affected the bite, and Captain Cane tried several spots but too many negatives to the entire trip to warrant a good review: had to bait most of our own hooks, he took several business phone calls during our trip and couldn't seem to find spots with big, keeper fish; plus we ran out of bait. Sorry, but can't recommend and won't be booking with Ollie Raja Charters again.

Ron I would like to thank you for this review and hope that it helps others in the future. As a 5th generation commercial fisherman from Holden Beach and guiding for a decade and owner of Ollie Raja Charters here's what I've learned and practice. Fish move and react to weather just like humans. Days with 106 degree heat indexes see most adults taking it easy while kids continue to play. Fish are the same in that manner. We used 60 live shrimp and 12 mullets minnows. With a conservative estimate that's 35 solid bites. We caught Black Drum, Flounder, Grouper, Pinfish, Bluefish and had to move away from a school of Red Drum after catching a few since they where not legal size to keep to your dismay. North Carolina has regulations regarding fish and game. It is unlawful to possess undersized fish and kill juvenile game such as fawn deer. I personally feel these are good regulations and help to preserve our resources for future generations. We strive to provide an outdoor experience amongst friends and families. Some days the cup runeth over with catches coming back to the dock, some days its hard to put anything in the cup. Everyone who reads this please remember its called fishing not catching and Hunting not killing. As you grow wise and gain a vast knowledge of the wild you learn it's being out with Mother Nature and the outdoor experience. The scenery, the fish, and the time well spent with a son, daughter, friend or spouse is priceless. Learning how to bait your own hook, clean fish and various techniques is knowledge passed down. Theres a reason seafood markets and grocery stores have become so successful, there a sure thing. Ron sees this trip as a failure he paid $400 and harvested two fish for dinner. I see this trip as a success Ron and his 16 year old son caught a lot of fish, where able to keep a couple for dinner and spent 4 hours together in the outdoors. As a parent to me that trip was priceless.

My family is coming to Holden Beach this summer from Shreveport, Louisiana. My husband and some other family want to do a boat fishing trip. Years ago I went deep sea fishing in Destin, Florida. I felt very nauseous and was miserable. I have since been on a cruise so have motion sickness patches. Is this a common problem and how is it usually handled if so? Thanks

Anywhere on the West end of Oak Island, they do have a motel at Blue Water Point one of our pick up locations. Also we pick up in Holden Beach and there are many houses to rent on the island.

Hello, my family will be vacationing in July at Holden Beach. I was wondering what your prices are to go out and fish on the boat and if you have what they call a Blanket License or if we would have to get our own fishing license? I also am not sure what kind of license we would need. I am confused between the Coastal and Inland fishing license.
Thank you,
Lisa Cordell
