Great activity on a hot day

I was originally reluctant to dig for gems on a brutally hot day. It was nice to sit along a stream, completely in the shade and listen to water flow. I even picked up a nice... read more

We found gems that were worth many times the small fee that we paid to sluice the natural forested creek that runs about a half mile before it flows into a very small river. The most valuable stones did not look like much more than gravel, so pay attention to the examples of natural gems that the mine has available... More

After reading reviews we chose to do the combination of selucing and creaking. The price for two adults and one child was $47 which was not bad for an entire day of fun and getting dirty. We found the staff to be knowledgeable and easy to talk to. All of our options were explained so we knew exactly what we... More

Our family stumbled on information for Crater of Diamonds in Arkansas. Unfortunately, Arkansas was a bit too far for this summer's vacation. A little research brought us to Hiddenite,NC and the Emerald Hollow Mine. Hiddenite offers sluicing with pre-filled buckets, creeking, and digging. We went for the combination of all three...$25 per person. A bit steep, but we tend to... More

Stopped here with the family and had a great time. We ended up spending more than we had planned so just budget a little more for your trip. We bought the $250 bucket and the kids got some gems of all sizes. I watched other people do the smaller bucket and I must say it was worth spending more like... More

This was my third trip, and I will never go back. My previous trips were somewhat productive. I always found enough interesting rocks or minerals to feel that I had gotten my money's worth and always had something that was good enough to have made into a piece of jewelry. This time, I spent much more money and got very... More

While traveling we stopped with kids and had a wonderful time both at the sluice and creek. The staff were friendly knowledgeable. We found some emeralds sapphire and ruby, and topaz. What a great time out doors

Even on a blistering hot day my family had a BLAST! Loved being able to do the entire set up of creeking, digging, and sluicing. Had so much fun digging and sluicing, but be prepared to get dirty! Brought home so many gemstones and pretty rocks and we can't wait to polish them up.

I can't say enough good things about this place, from the atmosphere of driving down in the "holler" on a dirt road to get there, to the relaxation of sitting by a cool, shaded creek searching for rubies. The staff there are extremely personable, and knowledgeable. Be prepared to get dirty...but that's part of the fun! Bring a picnic lunch... More
