To any naysayers, consider what is offered in most small towns in the USA. Hickory is a small town where most of the furniture manufacturing has moved overseas. Yet, it appears to have been surviving well due to such commitments as it's Museum. Converting an old high school made for very large and functional spaces and the art show is... More

The museum is set up nicely and has a good flow. There are several floors and exhibits have a central theme that is explained with good details. There is no fee. It was not crowded when we visited on a Saturday. I have visited many large museums and even some smaller ones with prestigeous works of art so I may... More

Thank you for your visits this past holiday weekend. We strive to have a mix of works and change our exhibits often to allow for the many styles and artists we exhibit. I hope that you will join us again with some of our upcoming exhibits such as installation artist Johnathan Brilliant, and other nationally acclaimed in 2017. More

The art museum is in the old Claremont High School (built in 1924). It's not the largest art museum we've been to but it's certainly one of the nicest. It's wide open and everything is displayed beautifully. I loved the folk art exhibit upstairs and spent a lot of time looking at every little detail of the pieces. The people... More

It has some interesting exhibits but I haven't seen any I'm particularly excited about. It's an okay location and open to move around.

This Art Museum is a "four diamond" experience. The galleries are filled with splendid local regional artists. The Discover Folk Art gallery offers a fun filled immersion in Southern Outsider Art. The main gallery hosts world renowned artist exhibits. Housed in a restored former High School circa early 20th century, this museum is a fabulous gem in Hickory.

The Folk Art collection is the reason to visit. The temporary exhibits didn't rise to the level of the Folk Art. Quite worth a visit though. On three floors, it took me about an hour and a half to go through. I was the ONLY person in any of the galleries.

-- They have a marvelous work by Chihuly that I didn't expect-- and it is spectacular---small, but spectacular-- the art glass and pottery are excellent. We did decide that we're not huge pastel fans, but we did enjoy the folk art collection. There is a wonderful butterfly house ---- just lovely for old and young alike. HMA is a real... More
