My husband and I had the intimidating task of furnishing an entire new home when COVID-19 hit, with the two of us working from home for the foreseeable future. When we realized we needed to buy furniture, we ended up going to High Point / Furnitureland South to buy our furniture. After having a terrible experience there, we quickly pivoted to Hickory to see what it had to offer.

I was very impressed with the selection and the prices. It seemed that Hickory Furniture Mart had more variety, same quality, and better prices.

We also took advantage of the Mart's personal shopper, Teresa, who made the experience of furniture shopping so much better! She was a helpful companion to bounce off ideas, she was honest with her opinion, and she never pushed us to buy a certain product. Based off the fabulous customer experience I've had with Hickory Furniture Mart, I will never go back to Furnitureland South and instead buy all future home purchases from the Mart.

Every person that we were introduced to at the Hickory Furniture Mart was kind, helpful, informed, but our personal shopper, Teresa Thompson, made our entire day the best furniture shopping experience we have ever had! We are combining two households, and needed a number of items of furniture. Teresa had planned our day, and took us to showrooms that welcomed us with their expertise. By the end of the day, we had selected every piece of furniture that we had come to shop for, as well as lamps. There is no way that we could have navigated all of the showrooms and understood what we were looking at without Teresa's expert hand. I highly recommend that you call the mart in advance of your trip to let them know what you are looking for.

The actual shopping experience was pretty good, but it's been 9 months and I still don't have all the furniture. Here's my timeline:

March 20 : Purchased furniture for a family room and two bedrooms, all from Bassett
June 28: The sectional arrived at Hickory Mart and the balance was paid
Sept 8: Sectional delivered but damaged; returned with delivery people
Oct 5: Sectional delivered again; new damage; returned with delivery people
Oct 9: Bedroom furniture delivered with wrong headboard.
Dec 29: I'm told the damaged sectional will be delivered in January but there's no date yet. No word on the missing headboard.

I live in Virginia so it's not a long haul for delivery.
I understand things are COVID-slow, but I bought a lot of other furniture in the same timeframe and it was all delivered months ago. This is just lousy management.

We traveled from Indianapolis IN to buy the quality, custom furniture I knew we would get at a decent price, because I have bought from them for the last 50 years.
The custom service rep, Jeannie, was wonderful and didn't stop until I got exactly what I needed. She was full of information I hadn't even thought about and she spent a long time with us.
I have and will continue to recommend this company for any on buying new furniture.

I ordered an arm chair in April,2021.Was told not in stock and had to be made per order. Delay after delay, short staffed, COVID, shipper delays. The chair was finally delivered on February 2nd.,2022.I paid $1300+ for the chair and $325+ for shipping.The product value is over priced.The quality of cushion seat is poor. The cushion itself is so thin.I have contacted Good's and every reply has been an excuse and sorry to hear.Since the arrivasl of my arm chair, I have not received one reply in regards to my disappointment of the product. Buyer beware syndrome. I cannot reccomend any product from Good's.

Since I was coming from the DC area, I made an appointment with, Teresa Thompson, their personal shopper. She was just what I needed! We worked together for 2 days and completed 2 rooms that I was redecorating in my house. I came with specific ideas and she really helped me achieve exactly what I wanted to. She picked up on my style very quickly and knew just where to go and who to speak with in every store.
I can't say enough about how flexible and supportive she was. She gave me her honest opinion, but was not trying to steer me in a different direction than I wanted.
Above all, she was a lovely person that cared about me being happy! I have since had to do follow up calls because one of the fabrics I chose was out of stock. Teresa went the extra mile and personally went to see what it looked and felt like before recommending the replacement choice.
I also thought that Emily Conn at Hickory Park was extremely helpful and had great follow up and communication, even after I left.

Beware of pricing scam / bait-and-switch! I visited from New Orleans with the hopes of purchasing a leather sectional earlier this week. Two different sales members in two different galleries, separate experiences, gave me a price after taking some time (hours) to get a proposal together based upon the sectional details, brand, size, pieces, leather choice, etc. Both, after giving a price, came back to say they made a mistake, apologized and proceeded to give a new price. With the first sales person, the price nearly doubled. With the second sales member, the price nearly tripled. Same product. Same manufacturer. Same pieces. Same leather choice. When I asked about the source of the original pricing, I was told a manager in the first experience and then a pricing sheet the second. Apparently they are given a recommended price from the manufacturer and once they believe you want it no matter, come back with seriously inflated prices. Bad business. Avoid. So disappointing.

Donna, I am so sorry for your recent experience at the Mart. This is very unusual indeed. If you could please email me directly at ttrimble@hickoryfurniture.com with the name of the two showrooms and the names of the sales people you worked with, I would like to discuss this directly with those showroom owners. I do know that many of our showrooms have hired new sales associates this summer and they may need some additional training on how to calculate the pricing for items so I would like to know if this is the case with your experience. There are a lot of variables involved when ordering custom furniture (size of furniture, material used, grade of fabric or leather selected, any special finishing requests such as nail head trim, gold leafing, protection packages, etc.), which is why it takes some time to calculate everything with very detailed pricing provided by the manufacturer. I would really like to look into this further for you and get back to you with a precise answer. We have been in business for over 60 years and have a very solid reputation. Hickory Furniture Mart has changed over the years, as so many things have. The shipping is no longer included (free) and the discounts are not as they once were. We enjoyed our visit, and we will keep in mind what we saw, but we are in no hurry to make large purchases there any longer. The bottom line is they seem overpriced. There is no reason to make an appt as they state online. There was no one at the Mart when we were there (week day) and we were free to browse without being 'hounded' by sales people. We did meet a nice gal which offered us assistance but we enjoyed the freedom to roam throughout the Mart. The discounted pricing is only 10% off the floor tags, so we felt the discount was not deep enough, as they once were.

The last couple of years have been challenging for all industries for sure throughout the pandemic, especially with supply chain issues and more recently with the additional increase of gas and freight costs for delivering furniture along with the need for everyone to adjust to inflation overall. Unfortunately even though Hickory Furniture Mart continues to offer deep discounts on high-end quality furniture, with North Carolina pricing and quality craftsmanship still being the main incentives for visitors traveling here from all over the world, our industry has also been effected like most others. As with everything, things do tend to change through the years. The pandemic has given our showrooms the opportunity to work with customers both remotely or in person now so that everyone is able to enjoy a more relaxing shopping experience whether purchasing onsite or online. We do offer a considerable amount of furniture throughout the building that is discounted more than the 10% referenced and I would be happy to help you find what you need to stay within your budget. Furniture shopping in North Carolina is amazing. There are so many places to go, with products and price points from so many different manufacturers, it can be overwhelming. We worked with Carole from NC Furniture Advisors and she made it efficient, productive and fun! We could not have accomplished much without her. She is very knowledgeable about the different product lines, and when you give her good information about your style and budget, she will zero in on the showrooms that will have just what you're looking for! She helped break down the miles of furniture at Furnitureland South so that the time spent shopping got us just what we wanted. We will go back to the area again the next time we are looking for furniture, and will ask Carole to meet us. We highly recommend NC Furniture Advisors!

The furniture in this palce was mostly very modern with high prices. Some odd pieces. Not many people would use this except wealthy individuals with mansions. I was there late on a Wednesday and the place was desserted. I had to walk around and find salespeople. Finally found one salesperson who is helpful. They want you to do special orders from catalogues for full price with a slight discount. You're better off buying from stores in your hometown.

Anne, Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry that you did not find exactly what you were looking for during your recent visit to the Mart. I do hope you had the chance to go through all our showrooms inside the building because they are very different, and the majority of the furniture inside our building is actually a bit more transitional in style, vs. modern, along with several other popular styles in our industry. Our prices are indeed reflective of the high-quality of the furniture and the master craftsmanship that goes into each piece of furniture that is manufactured for our customers, so it may seem more expensive if you compare the furniture here to other lesser quality furniture that might be available at more economical retailers. This is definitely investment furniture that is made and meant to be enjoyed for several years. I am not sure if it was explained to you while you were here, but you do have the choice to either customize/special order your furniture or we also have several factory stores, outlets and clearance centers inside the Mart where you are able to purchase those items directly off the floor and take them home with you immediately that same day. You may also have your off the floor items delivered to you at a later date, if that is more convenient for your schedule. I do apologize that the sales and design associates were not readily available to help you inside each showroom. Many of our customers have shared that they prefer to browse around on their own and not have an associate hover over them while looking. It is hard to know exactly how many people are inside the Mart at any given time since most are working with sales associates and designers inside each showroom. And those out-of-town customers that tend to arrive earlier in the day, also head home earlier since they have a longer drive ahead of them.
