    Wonderful museum
Only had a couple of hours to visit this museum however it was well worth the trip. Great selection of aircraft and museum staff that were available to answer every question. It’s next to a small airport so we also saw a couple of planes including a vintage sea plane from the 1940s. Would loved to have had a bit more time.

    Fantastic aviation museum
Fantastic aircraft museum with knowledgeable staff. Free to enter, the museum has a number of items inside and some great planes outside. We were lucky enough to see a 1943 Albatross take off from the airfield also. This was also where the knowledge of the staff was shown when a staff member spent some time explaining to some really (really) tall guy from the UK the difference between a missile and a fuel drop tank. It shows the educational value of museums like this as not everyone gets to see planes up close or gets to work in the aviation industry - as was clear with our tall UK friend. Overall well worth a visit.

    Nice Aviation Museum
Stopped here on my way to the Biltmore. I thought the museum was interesting and being able to get inside all the planes just made the visit more fun. This is a location for all ages and aviation history buffs. I would recommend stopping here if you have time. They also have a very small cafeteria with a limited menu. It was 38 in our group and we just overwhelmed the cafeteria staff - so I don't recommend a bus group plan to eat here.

This museum had very kind and generous volunteers that gave us a wonderful tour of one of the larger aircraft’s interior. It is a wonderful quick stop if you are ever in hickory! Things that are included are an indoor model exhibit, a large amount of retired fighter jets, and some larger military planes. This attraction is free so donations are encouraged!

This collection of war birds is one of the best I have ever seen, especially on the rural airport level. I cant wait until they break ground on the the new larger facility which is underway now. Treat yourself for a couple of hours here and accept the invitation of a guided tour. The volunteers there have a passion for preserving our history and sharing it with you. Most of the repairs and restorations are done on site and there is story that goes with each. There are a few Marine Corp birds on the deck as well and we are well represented in the building.
So stop by and check this place out and support their endeavor. You won't be disappointed

The Hickory Aviation Museum was great today. If you're ever in Hickory please stop by and check it out. The veterans/volunteers there would love to show you around and chat. He also said they do short plane rides for kids 7 and up every other Saturday. There is one plane you can go into but the steps were wet, so it wasn't open. We'll def be back to check it out.

The Hickory Aviation Museum is a fun afternoon of history and cool aircraft. I found the indoor displays engaging and informative with a distinct North Carolina flavor (not exclusively though). The aircraft displays were well preserved examples of many of the great military aircraft from the 60’s through the 90’s and a few older aircraft, plus a one of a kind early jet prototype. I was thoroughly impressed with the tour guides which included some seasoned gentlemen as well as two extremely knowledgeable teenagers...don’t try and trade wits with them, they know their stuff!

My wife read the review and we took a local friend and my family... wow.. I missed this when I lived here and what a shame. This is the BEST place for anyone. Young boys had a blast and I was able to soak up some history. Fun to support the place I let my boys pick out some toy planes and we talked about it for days. GREAT place NOT to be missed
