I went with my family to Johnson Farms on the day they did not do tours. Instead of the tours, they did story telling for about 2 hours. There old Irish and Native American Folklore but entertaining. The staff was so gracious they even did a mini tour of the farm. The staff were all volunteers and maintained the property extremely well. You can tell they really care about the property!

As a volunteer docent at the Historic Johnson Farm, I'm always happy to introduce visitors to this fantastic family resource in Hendersonville. The Farm, owned by our local board of education, features a lovely hand-crafted 19th century home that can be toured with a guide for $5.00 (less for school children, and free for preschoolers). There is no charge to walk the grounds, visit the livestock, enjoy a picnic, watch the Heritage Weavers at work, or exercise your dog. Interesting, low cost, educational programs on a wide range of subjects are offered for both children and adults. Spring and Christmas festivals combine arts and crafts, music, demos of old-timey farm skills, and fundraising for the farm's activities. Any tourist or local resident will have a great time here, whenever they choose to visit.

Today I went to the Johnson farm and had a entertaining time! We first took a tour of the 140+ year old home. The docents were all so knowledgeable and happy to share all of houses history. The home is fully decorated with original furnishings. My favorite room was the kitchen with its wood burning stove. I learned so much today and it was fun! The price was a reasonable $5.00.

It might have been nice if we did not have toddlers. There were several historic houses and they have tours of them. However, we were told that the tours are not young child friendly as I am guessing they probably have a lot of antiques. The farm was cute but the animals (two donkeys and a sheep) were shy as they hid in the barn the whole time. Without seeing the inside of the house, it is hard to rate the whole experience.

It is free to see the grounds but the tour costs $5 per person for adults.

If you’re looking for farm animals, this is not the place. Two donkeys and 3 chickens they couldn’t find. Educational info not for children under 10, very disappointing

I'm sorry your visit disappointed you! We unfortunately can't make the chickens come out, especially when it's cold. We do not advertise as a petting zoo or place with lots of farm animals, so we are sorry if you thought it was. Did you go on a guided tour of the farm? We try to make tours suitable for children and adults.

One of the old houses at the Johnson Farm has been turned over to a very active group of Textile Arts enthusiasts. You can find people here who are weaving, felting, knitting, etc. Classes are offered throughout the year. I didn't find the grounds to be particularly interesting, but for young children raised in a city it would give them an idea of a farm from the last century.

This is a beautiful historic site primarily ser aside for school children, but also for the general public. It is well maintained by volunteers, the Heritage weavers are on site, festivals are held in the spring and in December. It is a very peacful setting with nice short trails.

I love this place. I'm prejudiced though. I used to be the director there. Their open hours are based on school schedules so it's a good idea to check with them first. The Heritage Weavers "occupy" one of the buildings and they are interesting. Nice easy trail and some animals for the kids. Big Christmas festival 1st Sat in Dec and a spring festival last weekend in April.

Learned a lot at Johnson Farm. Be sure to get there early to get a tour of the inside of the house. They do the tour once a day at 10:30am. We missed it but may have to go back to tour the inside of the home. Otherwise you can do a self guided tour around the property with the audio (available on your cell phone). There are also a couple short trails to walk along on the property as well.

Great for kids and adults alike! The history of the farm is very interesting. Highlights include farm animals, tours of the farm house and a large area to picnic or run and play.
