We visited on a Saturday and the place was hopping and they were clearly understaffed (which is common these days). The process of getting a flight of wine is good HOWEVER they need to communicate that process to patrons in a better way. To their credit, the facility is lovely and the food offerings were well organized for quick service. The wine is pretty good - its all pretty subtle in flavor but they were balanced and quite drinkable.

Wine flights are the way to go. Get the cheese plate to go along with it and enjoy a relaxing time out on the covered patio. We were one of only 2 couples on this weekday, but they have the capacity to handle a large crowd. The ladies working the inside counter were extremely helpful and even steered us towards other wineries in the Hendersonville area.

Beautiful views and excellent service. We arrived over Memorial Day weekend and everything has just opened back up. We went to go inside but we didn’t have our masks on us, but the man inside said grab a seat I can sell you a glass or a bottle. We sat on the patio and the weather was perfect (until it monsooned 45 minutes later) and drank a bottle of red. The rain started so we bought another bottle to go. We will be back after Christmas and will stay longer!

I have been here many times but not since Covid-19 has been around. I could not believe the lack of care taken by this winery. If you wanted a bottle of wine verses a glass you had to go inside the tasting room. There was a guy on the door letting up to 12 people in . Everyone was almost touching each other at times some without masks we waited half an hour without moving. One lady working on the counter and two older people trying wine then she had to box it all up.. Finally the door guy came into help out and then more people came into the small space. Never did I notice anyone cleaning tables and chairs as they do at mountain Brook winery, Tryon. The door guy said they are really VERY busy. Hello this is apple picking season in your area and you know you always have lots of visitors. I felt so bad for the visitors that I told them to go to Mountain Brook and they will have a much better experience. People wanting to get flights where also in a long queue for that. I have to say during this whole Covid time I have never felt so unsafe as I did while at theirs winery. Not enough staff, lack of concern for visitors or there own staff Just not good enough.

Unlike other wineries in the area, no one came to our table to offer menus, or advice (or water). We ordered at a bar (with no help in choosing our flights, even when I asked the server for advice or descriptions of the wines). Our $11.00 wines by the glass were a measly 5 oz. - we actually measured them.
We used to enjoy this winery above all others , but this latest experience felt like we were at any old bar with bad service and high prices. Our $15.00 tasting flight no longer included the glass. The iPad bill included tipping. For what?
We will be taking guests to other wineries in the area such as those in the Tryon and Landrum.

I was excited to try a local winery but was surely disappointed. We arrived at 4:45, they close at 6 pm. We were reminded 3 times during our tasting that we close at 6. Each time we told them we understood and were planning on respecting that closing time. The two girls working there were very unfriendly and seemed annoyed to be bothered with questions or service. We buses our Jen table outside and left promptly at 6. I do not recommend this winery due to unwelcoming customer service. There are much friendlier and quaint smaller wineries in the area.

Of the major wineries in Henderson County, I find Burnt Shirt my least favorite. Every since it first opened, I have found it stuffy and I do not feel comfortable sitting their in work clothes or stopping for a glass of wine after working in the yard. I fell I need to dress to go their facility. I feel far more at home at other wineries. They do have the most facilities and options available for dance and other meeting and events. As Yogi says, this place is so busy, no body goes there. Wines are ok, But crowds and upscale attitude do not contribute to a great tasting experience.

Nicer staff & spraying for bugs would improve this experience tenfold. We purchased 2 flights and while drinking them outside we had bugs fly and land in our wine 3 times in a very short period! To make matters worse, after the second time we went in to get a new pour the woman acted like she didn’t believe us and drank some of the wine with the bug in it to make sure we were telling her the truth?! Not only was that weird/gross, but really rude. After it happened the 3rd time - to my favorite of all the 10 wines we tried - I didn’t bother going in because it seemed like she thought we were putting the bugs in ourself?? Very strange attitude and experience considering she could see them floating in the drunk. Wine was great and there was a beautiful view, shame it was ruined by this.

My wife and I have visited Burntshirt many times in the past - whenever we are in the area. This is the first time we've visited wineries here since Covid so I understand that the tasting process has changed, and the vineyard is short-handed, but that's no excuse for rudeness. We were not even acknowledged in the winery for a very long time. When the rude lady behind the counter finally came to us, I asked how this works with the flights since we'd only done regular tastings before. She quickly snapped an answer which neither of us could hear or understand - wasn't nice of friendly at any point. We figured out what we needed to do on our own. The only reason I'm giving 3 stars is the area to do the tasting outside is nice, the wine is good, and they had live music. We bought 2 bottles of wine, and a different lady checked us out (she was nice). Not sure we'll be back

They have indoor and outdoor areas to enjoy wine tasting and a gift store, half of the outdoor seating is shaded. They had excellent live acoustic guitar music on the Saturday we visited. Their wines cover a wide variety of styles and tastes. We prefer German Rieslings so none of their offerings suited us.

Thank you for your detailed review! The climate here in WNC makes our riesling much riper and sweeter, with a more mild acidity than the gold standard from Germany. We hope to see you again!
