Lots of fun
Jun 2021 • Couples
We went to Kerr lake and stayed for a week. The campsites in the middle are the largest. You can fit larger campers and still have lots of room for extras. The ones closest to the water are very nice but much more cramped. They also have tent areas that are right by the water. We had so much fun fishing, kayaking and relaxing by the campfire. It was full during the weekend. Weekdays were nice and quiet. Bathrooms and dumpster was far from campsites.

Campground is Beautiful
Jun 2020
We camped here in June 2020 and they didn't have all the facilities open yet but the lake is beautiful, the bathrooms were clean and there are many places to walk. Plan ahead to rent a boat, we missed out so we didn't get to see the entire lake and it's huge! Bring lots of bug spray, the mosquitoes are hungry.

The Kerr Lake area is a great escape any time of the year. The camp sites are well maintained and family oriented.

Tons of campsites
May 2019 • Couples
Just staying here for a few days while making our annual trip east. This is a vary large lake with several different campgrounds encircling it. That means there is A LOT of campsites and boat ramps. There's also a general store outside the park near the County Line campground. That being said, I still recommend making reservations. We stayed at County Line. There is power and water on gravel pads. Lots of shade trees. Restrooms and showers. Kids play areas. This is an Army Corp of Engineers facility managed by state park rangers. The citation for consuming alcohol is $215 for every adult in the campsite.Whether they were drinking or not. So, heed the signs out front that says alcohol and firearms are prohibited.

$7 gets you a beautiful view.

VA state parks appear to be organized, neat and enjoyable. We arrived at the lake in time for a Tstorm, so our visit was cut short! We walked the trails by the terrace gardens and enjoyed learning a bit about the history of the area. The Visitors Center has quite a bit of information about the site and apparently the cabins fill quickly. They do have Yurts as well on the campground area.

Sight seeing drive
Apr 2019 • Couples
Beautiful place to visit on a drive but not many or any hiking trails. Visitors center had clean bathrooms and a lot of information on local wildlife. Looks like great place for family picnic and swimming.

Short Hiking Trails
Jan 2019 • Couples
We visited Kerr Lake State Recreation Area for the state parks passport challenge. The park consists of seven recreation area scattered around the North Carolina side of Kerr Lake. Most of the park amenities are around camping and Lake activities and only a couple short trails. In the summer, there is a fee to enter, but free in the winter. Visiting in January, it was too cold to go out on the lake, but we did go on a short hike near the Visitor Center. It was a nice hike with views of the lake, but we headed to Virginia afterwards for a longer hike. Even in winter, we found a couple ticks on the dog, so I'd imagine the bugs are really bad in the summer.

Camping
Apr 2018 • Family
We camped for 3 days and it was great! We would go back any time! The sights where great lots of really cool ones you could get rite on the water. The bathroom was cleaned every day and the people where nice. The bathroom is far from the sights so keep that in mind with older or younger campers. Other then that it was great

A Beautiful Vision of a Park Worn From Use
May 2018 • Family
Kerr Lake is a giant reservoir lake formed by the damming of the Roanoke River by the Kerr Dam. My family and I stopped here overnight on our way to the OBX. The area was set aside by the state of NC in 1981, and it looks like that was the last year anything got any updating here. The bathrooms were not clean or in great shape. The hookup for my site had a small hornets nest in it. On a Saturday night there were half a dozen sites filled, so the locals at least know that this is not a well maintained facility. On the whole most NC state parks and rec lands are in poor shape, and this is just a little bit worse than average. Beautiful view from the campsite though, and it WAS quiet. If you are a local fisherman you would definitely enjoy Kerr Lake. If you are a tourist that needs to use the public facilities to wash and use the bathroom, I would find someplace else to stay.
