We brought my Mother here in the 80's. She was blind but they showed her how to feel for the gems. She found an 52 carat ruby. It was one of her fondest memories

My husband and I and our friends decided to try our hand at Ruby mining. Our friend found a 27 and a half carat Ruby in his first bucket and total the four of us found about a hundred carats worth. It was very educational and the man who helps you pan was very nice and extremely helpful because without... More

Was there last week with myself my 2 kids and my nephew. I wanted to give my kids the experiences I had with my grandparents. I remember spending the day getting muddy and finding tiny little rubies, fond memories of spending the day with my grandparents. I couldn't remember exactly where we went as a child, but I did my... Nice folks. 20 bucks for 3 good size buckets of natural material. They had a great guide named Richard that helped with the sifting of material. He helped to identify any valuable gems and he did a great job. He had a black light and a good eye and found a bunch of rubies that I would have missed. I... More

Our family had a great time gem mining for the first time. Be prepared to get dirty! Prices were reasonable, with three buckets for $20. You can choose from native buckets which may contain rubies or rainbow buckets that can also contain other gems. Allow at least two hours for three buckets - arrive by 3 pm at the latest... More

Decided to check this place out with my parents and nephew. There were only 2 workers and it as extremely busy. They were turning away people because there wasn't enough room. Because of the number of people there and only the 2 employees - they weren't very friendly and curt in regards to questions. The buckets have dirt from the... More

It was a lot of fun to grub through the dirt and find ( a few!) rubies. my son mined a couple of rainbow buckets and enjoyed the instant colorful gratification. If you go, wear dark old clothes, because the red mud likes to remain on clothes. It was fun, though, And I would go back.

There is no "hype" to Sheffield Mine, they will tell you up front you may not find a thing. This is true gem mining, freshly dug dirt from their own property, no one picks out the good stuff before you get there. What you find is what you get. Sure they have what they call "rainbow buckets" but they will... More

Great people and a wonderful time. Very helpful and polite workers. The owner was also on hand and a very nice man who took extra time to instruct my daughter and nephew. I highly recommend this mine.
