Standing on the porches at the Barker house gives you a sense of history of the revolutionary war times. Fascinating to know that the women of Edenton signed a document no more tea until all were represented in England. Unheard of at that time!!! Self walking tour of the house was great and the views from the porches breathtaking! A... More

We went into the Barker house to obtain information for touring the city and loved the house itself and received all the information we needed to explore this beautiful historic city.

The 1782 Penelope Barker House is beautifully restored and it is a wonderful place to visit. It is a welcoming place that gives you an introduction to the history of this quaint town and its people.

Home of Penelope Barker, who started the women's tea rebellion against British taxes on tea and fabrics. Relocated to current location, the house serves as gift shop, visitor center, gallery upstairs and place to relax. Brief historical account provided by gift shop attendant who also sells the tickets for the excellent historical trolley tour offered multiple times during the day.... More

We stopped in on the Memorial Day weekend Saturday and enjoyed the complimentary lemonade and cookies. There was an author signing but we usually don't buy anything unless we know the author. The gift shop has plenty of offerings for different ages and interests, and the upstairs area had historical artifacts and also a photography exhibit. The staff was very... More

We can sit on the porch and rock all day. The views are wonderful and the sound of the water will relax you to the point of falling asleep

Interesting to hear the history of the house, the owner, and especially his wife! Who knew North Carolina had their own Tea Party rebellion!

Historic home that is now the visitor center. Sit in the rocking chairs on the huge porch over looking the Edenton Bay. Across the water were breath taking homes to look at.
