About
Located on Duke University's West Campus, Duke Chapel is as magnificent in structure as it is rich in ministry. Construction of the Chapel was begun in October of 1930 and completed two years later. During that time students continually congregated at the stonemasons' huts to watch the Chapel take shape. It was first used for Commencement in 1932 and was formally dedicated on June 2, 1935.Duke Chapel continues to be a Christian church of uniquely interdenominational character and purpose. Through its tradition of inspiring worship and music, and a calling to walk with people of all faiths and circumstances, Duke Chapel acts a beacon of grace on campus and in the community. All are welcome to take part in worship, learning, dialogue, and service.

Closed due to China

Beautiful facility closed due to Covid which is ridiculous. With masks and social distancing, this treasure is off limits. Obscene mismanagement of government snd administration of school.

Must See - Great Architecture
Apr 2021
We were in Durham and just rode past the Chapel - did not get out. But it is definitely something to see. If in the area again, would definitely take the time and walk through the campus and the Chapel.

Closed for now

While I have been here so many times pre-Covid, the Chapel remains closed at this time. (February 2021). Parking is not allowed anywhere close to walking distance , unless you want to park at the Hospital and walk all the way around the backside and through the campus.

Amazing European experience in the heart of Durham
May 2020 • Couples
I have walked into a chapel and felt this way outside of Europe. This gorgeous chapel is located right in the heart of Duke’s campus amidst a serene setting of trees and other gothic stone buildings. They offer services for most major religions, as well as non-denominational and interfaith ones as well.

Great place to gather your thoughts

Have visited many times. Love the acoustics when I have enjoyed music there. If you're lucky enough to visit in the spring, the Duke gardens are a must see!

A beautifully designed worship place with Renaissance touches to windows and piers. Excellent accoustics for wedding and music programs.

Visited the chapel during a three day visit to Raleigh/Durham from Canada. What a beautiful chapel on an equally beautiful campus.

This chapel is borth charming and majestic. It is welcoming. One of the delights is the noon concerts by student organists.

Beautiful Chapel
Mar 2020 • Friends
What an exquisite building! The chapel is gorgeous inside and out. The structure, the stained glass, the wood work are all very amazing. I wish I could have experienced some music inside because I know it would be so beautiful.
I was lucky enough to get to go up to the top, it is such a fantastic view!
However, if you get the opportunity to do the same, heed the warnings! I do not consider myself claustrophobic or afraid of heights, but that staircase is something else. Also, if you go, do yourself a favor and don't carry anything up with you. Nervous as I was, it was a very rewarding experience!
