This amazing facility has hosted great actors and entertainers in it's 90 year history. A constant reminder of the influence that art can make to a community. Our discovery of this wonderful establishment has been on going over the years but it needs more than ever for others to discover it. Times have changed and Red Box and Net flicks... More

What a great place to see Kristin Chenoweth! It was conveniently located near Downtown Durham and a lot of nice restaurants. Definitely a neat place to visit and be a part of Durham's history. No matter where you seat in this theater, you will always have a great view. I will definitely come back!

This was our first time at the Carolina Theater for the Arlo Guthrie performance (which was awesome as well), and we will be sure to watch for other performances at this wonderful little theater. The venue is intimate with not a bad seat in the house. In addition I can't say enough to about the theater staff members. From the... More

The pre-show was fantastic. The editor of the in memoriam created a wonderful tribute. It was cathartic to see old and new performances and videos, capped off with a showing of Labyrinth. Just what I needed in the wake of such artistic loss this past week. Bravo ! Encore? :D

My first time to the Carolina Theater was to see a show (Sinatra Sings Sinatra) and also to prepare for a special event in the ballroom following the show. Let me just say, I have been in this business for over 15 years, and I have never seen a more dedicated staff, and gorgeously-restored art deco theater, and a dedication... More

Really gorgeously redone interior for this theater. Nice concessions area at the entrance, including a nice selection of tap and bottled alcohol. Theater was nice - the balcony was good, though I wouldn't sit in the first row as the front sat quite high and it made it difficult to see. If you sit back a couple rows though, the... More

This historic theater was built in 1926 in a Beaux-Arts style. It offers live stage performances and concerts in the beautiful theater and indi films, classic films, and foreign films in the movie theater. It also has 2 museums....a History of the Carolina Theater and a "Lest We Forget" museum on segregation. It was the first theater in Durham to... More

The Carolina Theatre was built in 1926, and served an important role in the history of Durham during segregation. The theatre now has two main performance spaces, a movie theatre (about 350 seats) and concert stage (about 1000 seats), with a ballroom and a museum exhibit. It is an excellent concert venue for jazz, blues, any straight-forward concert where you... More

Even though we've lived in Durham for 20 years, we've visited the Carolina Theater more in the last year than the previous years combined. The current management does a great job of booking music, comedy and spoken word performances. We've seen seen Dennis DeYoung, Greg Lake, Delta Rae, Steven Wright and NPR's "Moth Radio Hour" here and would have probably... More

We saw Keb' Mo there and really enjoyed the concert. Nice quaint theater. We were in the 2nd row and acoustic started a little off but sound board folks adjusted nicely. Drink prices were reasonable at 4-5 dollar for good beers. Staff was wonderful. Shout out to Lisa Jackson. She was so nice to us. Will get on their email... More
