The Rockford General Store is a MUST see. I believe its either the oldest or second oldest in the state. They have a Grill Section that serves some of the best hamburgers you will ever eat. Also had a BLT to go, which was awesome. Watching other folks dining, I wanted to try the several other great items on their menu. Everything prepared fresh. The owners/workers were extremely professional, friendly and helpful.
The town is in the process of trying to restore the OLD town of Rockford.
The Yadkin River is close by and worth checking it out also.. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

The Rockford General Store, circa 1890, is awesome. It has been in operation since 1890. You can get old fashioned candy (and the biggest malted milk balls I have every sunk my teeth into), Nehi Orange Crush in a bottle, local honey, lye soap, oil lamps, pottery, bonnets, rocking chairs, homemade apple pies (to die for), metal signs, and everything in between.

Unfortunately we only had a chance to see two of the places before it started to rain very very hard which prevented me from being able to get more pictures around the small town. I will, however, tell you what you can see there. It's definitely worth a stop to shop at the general store and just walk up and down the street.

While walking around the town you will see the Jesse Lester Tavern circa 1790 (now a private residence), the Railroad Section Foreman's House circa 1883, the Robert Clark store, the remains of the Grant-Burrus Hotel circa 1796 (burned down in 1974). It is said that Andrew Jackson, James K Polk and Aaron Burr stayed there. The Dudley Glass Store circa 1850, the Post Office circa 1899 and it's open on weekends selling antiques and collectibles, the Holyfield House circa 1900, the Bland house, the Mark York Tavern circa 1850, the Masonic Lodge (thought to be the oldest in northwest North Carolina), the CB Davis house circa 1900, the courthouse (the first courthouse in Surry County), and the Rockford Methodist Church circa 1916,

Traveled to the store looking for something to do during Mayberry week. The place is small, really one big room. Not much there just jars of candy. Very old building, chairs out front very dirty. Saw a lot of bees around the candy jars. A few jars of pickled eggs, etc by cash register. If the place is going to be a general store then it needs a redo, badly.
We asked for directions to a local winery and we got, “ya, right up the road by my house.” But I don’t know you. So she asked her friend, “What’s the name of of the winery next to my house?” She didn’t know either. Wait, you live next to a winery and don’t know it’s name? We grabbed a coke from and old coke machine full of Pepsi and got outa dodge!

Thia is a quaint little general store out in the country. Has not of the old time candies and eclectic decorations inside. But whatbya have to try is their cheeseburger. That thing is the bomb. That and a bottle drink and I was stuffed. Glad I didn't get fries. It is a great little place to kind if step back in time for those of us that can remember how things used to be. Folks there are as friendly as you could ever ask for.

This is a fun store, that takes you back in time. Old fashioned jars of candy, homemade
goodies to eat, and handmade things. It is almost like a little museum, with a warm
fire glowing in the winter with chairs all around. Don't miss it if y'all are visiting NC.

When stepping on the front porch of the store, you suddenly realize you're in for a surprise when you walk into the store.
Step inside and you are transported back in time to when general stores served as the community grocery store, cafe, and dry goods emporium.
Everything from sun bonnets to "penny candy" to washboards to sandwiches are on offer here.
Plan a weekend excursion well off the beaten path and pay a visit, you'll be glad you did.

This is my ancestral Grandfather, Marcus York. Beautiful old town. Took our Star Tours & Travel here many times to the Rockford General Store. We also visit a hidden gem here in Rockford, Ben Long’s Frescoe of Jesus Come Unto Me.

The store is authentic as it can be in these modern times and very interesting. The owner is friendly and the burger is to die for. Huge and only $3! The hoop cheese is the best with a nice sharp flavor and good texture. Coming from a rural area, I am familar with hoop cheese and this was some of the best! We didn't visit around the small historic town due to rain but we will revisit when in the area. I don't think you will be disappointed.
