I had planned out a 4 day Blue Ridge Parkway road trip and did extensive planning many months ago for this trip. Based upon Trip Advisor reviews for this general store, I felt we had to go off route and make a point of visiting this store because many people said “when in the area, you HAVE to visit”. We drove 20 minutes off route and 20 minutes back and that was nothing but a waste of time. We have traveled to many great general country stores and I had high hopes for this stop because of the previous reviews. Well, simply put…do not lose precious vacation time going out of your way to this store. I’m sure it is probably appreciated by the locales and thank goodness to some business entrepreneur who had a dream, but…we sincerely cannot recommend this store being worthy of any part of a vacation. Sorry guys.

Read many reviews on this place, so while my husband and I were on our way to Pilot Mountain, we decided to make the detour and check out the Rockford General Store.
At first we thought we were lost. Lots of turns on small country roads that dropped off onto a gravel path. Took us a few more minutes when we arrived at the general store, or at least what we thought was a general store. No parking, just side of the road if you can find it. Quite honestly, did not even want to go inside but hubby said, well, we are here, let's check it out. Went inside to find just an old store that took us 1 minute to explore. They had a few bits and pieces of nostalgic items, some jars filled with candy, and quite honestly, that was it. Did not eat anything, just left. I agree with others that this is probably a great place for all the locals to gather, have a burger and a pepsi and chat about the weather, but don't go out of your way. Not at all like Mast General store, just an old building.

Hey, it is an old country store. Lots of them to be found all over the USA. I wouldn't say this one has any special charms. They've got a selection of basic needs, some gift items and a selection of hot and cold food items. Friendly owner.

We saw the store on the web and thought it would be a neat place to stop. It’s definitely off the beaten path! Quite a disappointment after looking at the website.Im sure in its day it was better than it is now. Only two flavors of ice cream so that was out of the question for many choices.

Thia is a quaint little general store out in the country. Has not of the old time candies and eclectic decorations inside. But whatbya have to try is their cheeseburger. That thing is the bomb. That and a bottle drink and I was stuffed. Glad I didn't get fries. It is a great little place to kind if step back in time for those of us that can remember how things used to be. Folks there are as friendly as you could ever ask for.

Drove for 45 min to get here through winding hilly roads. expected something quite different from what we saw when we got there. one small dark room filled with an odd assortment of hand made items. lots of old time penny candy but nothing much else of interest to us. This is more like a community hang out for the locals to come and chat.

This is a fun store, that takes you back in time. Old fashioned jars of candy, homemade
goodies to eat, and handmade things. It is almost like a little museum, with a warm
fire glowing in the winter with chairs all around. Don't miss it if y'all are visiting NC.

When stepping on the front porch of the store, you suddenly realize you're in for a surprise when you walk into the store.
Step inside and you are transported back in time to when general stores served as the community grocery store, cafe, and dry goods emporium.
Everything from sun bonnets to "penny candy" to washboards to sandwiches are on offer here.
Plan a weekend excursion well off the beaten path and pay a visit, you'll be glad you did.

This is my ancestral Grandfather, Marcus York. Beautiful old town. Took our Star Tours & Travel here many times to the Rockford General Store. We also visit a hidden gem here in Rockford, Ben Long’s Frescoe of Jesus Come Unto Me.

Great experience! Amazing sandwiches! Fun "back-in-the-day" items for sale. Old fashioned candies. A must if you are in the area!
