We went on this tour during our children’s spring break, which was March 10-21, 2023. Their communications with us were impeccable. The date we reserved it rained all day and very windy. They contacted us and gave us several options in order to make our trip the best. We chose to reschedule our tour for another day of that week. Brett(I think that was his name) was hilarious and very personal. We were able to see a lone young “bachelor” of a horse that was back in the marshes. There were no horses on the beach as it was still considered too cold for things to grow and they had to go where the food was still available. I would highly recommend this tour not only for the price but also because this tour company was very helpful and kind. We will definitely come back in the summer and do this tour again.

If you are visiting Corolla and you want to see the wild horses then you need to book with them. Gary was our guide and we had a fun day on NYE seeing the horses. He not only is knowledgeable about the Island and horses, but he lets you interact with him as if he’s on the tour with you. If you want more pictures he waits, if you saw something he turns around, and he makes sure your satisfied with all your pictures before moving on. The tour is not rushed and he always makes sure the guests are happy. He also is so funny and my kids loved all the twist and turns and bumps. Plus riding all through the beach was cool in itself. If you plan to book do it online and book before your trip. I can see why they sold out!

Booked trip for 4 Adults just the day before and started promptly on time! All 4 of us are larger sized adults and we're comfortable getting up, in and out of the truck, as well as for the full 2 hour ride. Currently the white truck in the profile picture is the type We experienced. We brought bottled water but besides that only things closely attached to our persons, as you could easily lose items! Tricia was our driver / guide and could not have asked for more, she was educational (by nature as her full time job is a teacher), fun, and easy going, which matched our personalities well. The other group that was reserved with us had to cancel last minute so our tour was only for the 4 of us which worked out even better in my opinion. We saw horses as soon as we hit the beach and then throughout the trip, we were scheduled for the 330p to 530p on a Saturday. I grew up in the back of a Jeep and my friends in the bed of a pickup, so we all enjoyed the open road feel. The breeze from the drive, on the beach, and the fresh open air kept us cool as it was 81 degrees when we left for the ride. Parked in a cute plaza and near the truck we were going to be riding in, were able to grab a sandwich and drinks before checking in. There was also shade in the plaza that we were able to sit for 10 minutes while Tricia confirmed the second party would not be joining us. Needless to say, if you have an appreciation for horses, you'll love this. If you like a good outside ride with plenty of sight seeing, you'll enjoy it regardless of the horses.

This is a must-do when in Corolla. We were not expecting to see a lot of horses in the "off-season" months but we saw about 20 wild horses. Our tour guide, Gary, was very informative with telling stories of the horses and their different families/territories. He also was very entertaining and told some silly jokes to liven up the ride. If you go in the winter months, do bundle up. Even though it was sunny and 58 degrees, the wind from the open air drive is chilly. We are glad we did this event and would definitely reccommend Back Country Safari Tours.

A truly unique experience to a special place that is typically not seen in person by most people. Our tour guide, Gator is a local that grew up in the Corolla area and is very knowledgeable of the history, the locals, the wildlife. He had some great stories to tell! He knew right where to take us to see these amazing horses and it was very obvious that they are very special to him and the locals. Gator was very personable and made a point to speak to everyone that was on his tour, grown-ups and kids😊

What a fun and informative tour! We have visited OBX many times before and this time we wanted to see the horses. We have never done a horse tour before but this tour didn’t disappoint. Our guide, Tommy(Gator) was the best! He knew the roads and where to see the horses! He made sure to go around so everyone on the tour was able to get a great look at the horses. He knew so much about the horses and even spotted the baby horse out! Throughout the tour he kept conversations with everyone and made many jokes that made us all laugh! The time went by so quick and can’t wait till our next visit to OBX to book another tour!

Gary hosted our tour. He was knowledgeable and did a great job at engaging the tour group with jokes, facts, etc. He stopped a couple times at really good locations (i.e., horses in the background) and took pictures of each group. He did a great job sharing knowledge not only about the horses (history, current family groups, etc.) but also about the area we toured. We saw a total of 14 horses from 2 or 3 different family groups.

We had tried to book with another place and they were sold out! What a blessing because we then tried Back Country Safari Tour and we had Gary as our guide. He loves what he does. We had no expectations about even seeing a horse but not only did we happen to see 9 (yes, 9) but we had a rare opportunity to see a fold with his mom. We also saw the response when another stallion and his family wander onto a patch of grass occupied by another stallion and his family. WOW! It was an incredible adventure that I know is not possible everyday and even without all those amazing sights the tour and knowledge base that Gary shared would have been worth the price of the tickets.

My family and I had the opportunity to visit the Spanish mustangs in Corolla, NC with our AMAZING host, Gary. Not only did he ensure that we saw over 20 mustangs (four families) on our 2 hour excursion; Gary entertained the adults and children with fun facts, personal stories, and even the coolest panoramic family photo that we have ever taken. If you have the chance to check this out, be sure to ask for Gary!! You will not be disappointed.

This is an odd review because we were not able to take the safari trip due a medical emergency. We booked the Back Country Safari for 4 people in order to see the wild horses and the 4x4 area of OBX. My wife and I had to leave due to an emergency but our friends did take the trip. First of all, we were given a full refund due to our cancellation with NO hassle - EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE. Secondly, our friends did take the trip and had a fantastic time! They told us all about the excursion and showed us their pics. We fully intend to return and take the adventure in the future. Back Country Safari Tours has earned my business.
