Perfect vacation

No need to ever go to another beach. The peace and quiet. No crowds. Nice beach houses to stay. And of course the horses and wildlife.

1. Plan to arrive by 8:00am or the traffic may be so bad you'll turn around and try another day. 2. Do NOT attempt to drive on the beach without 4WD (or a pic of your car getting towed will end up on "Oregon Inlet Idiots." 3. Park and set up for the day in the middle- between the beach... More

Carova beach is a great place for families to check out all the OBX wildlife, including the famous wild horses that roam free.

4WD only. We watched somebody get stuck. The beach is beautiful, but it's the road too so they don't allow big tents, only individual sized ones. The horses came around 4pm. The cars were not scary with our young kids. They drive slow. We are going to rent a house on this beach next year.

We drove out in our Chevy Tahoe and were able to drive in the sand just fine, in 4wd. This is the best beach ever! Load up your beach toys, chairs, tent, all your kids junk and drive out on the beach where you can just unload it all and not carry a thing. Trying to walk across the street... More

This just was not to be believed in comparison to other beaches on the Eastern Seaboard. These wild horses made you think you were on another continent. They were so beautiful, and paid no attention to the people around. They made the trip.

I've been to the Outer Banks several times, but this was time that we had ventured north to Carova Beach and the surrounding areas. We were lucky to see a number of horses that were walking through the area where we were camped out. It was also fun to drive to the nearby Carova fire station. Kids loved all of... More

One of the most unique experiences in all of the outer banks, and something we always put on our to/do list We usually see at least one wild horse Driving on the beach is not for everyone, expect a very bumpy ride. Follow the rules so you don't get stuck.

If your idea of a relaxing beach vacation is to be free of crowded beaches, then Carova Beach is for you. With that being said, you must have a 4-wheel drive vehicle, either privately-owned or rented, in order to take advantage of this solitude. All-wheel-drive vehicles will get stuck in the sand. There are no paved roads to access any... More

We rented a house and spent a great week on Carova Beach. We will do it again. Wild horses in the yard every morning and groups of horses on the beach each afternoon. And the best part .... what a great beach right in the back yard! - This is the 4 wheel drive area and we did pull a... More
