We had a blast driving on the beach, enjoying the waves, and seeing the wild horses. Unlike anywhere we had ever been. Highly recommend taking a ride up to Carova in your 4x4, so glad we did it on our own instead of one of...More

The beach is beautiful. The wild horses are also in Carova. The houses that sit over the dunes are spectacular! You will need a 4 wheel drive vehicle to get there though!

We stay here every year and love the beach. Low volume, always space and horses show up somewhere daily. There is a bit of vehicle traffic but most people are courteous and watch their speed, especially around children. However, there's always a few that are...More

We have done the “wild horse” tours before and decided to rent our own 4X4 Jeep for the day (Enterprise, Kill Devil Hills). This provided more time to drive through the neighborhoods independently. However, if you want to stop and hang out on the beach...More

This part of Highway 12 does require 4 wheel drive, you will need a tow truck without it! So if you have 4 wheel drive, buckle up and enjoy the most amazing bumpy ride of your life! Keep a watchful eye out for the dolphins...More

Excellent guide "Gator" Saw many, many horses. Highly recommend this company. My husband, as requested, was seated next to the drive. You must bring a jacket and sunscreen, it was cold on the beach in May

My family comes here almost every year to enjoy a week at the beach. The 4x4 is great because there aren't as many people and you get to see the wild horses. The views are amazing and everything is practically untouched.

A curious and diverse community in the middle of sand dunes and Maritime forests accessible only by 4 wheel drive. Do follow the rules of 4x4 driving and don’t drive through any puddles no matter how shallow they may appear. We saw one horse on...More

House rental for one week in Corova with teens and 2 dogs. Pros- beautiful beach. Cons- lots of driving on the beach. For us, we found the driving on the beach limited our enjoyment. It is difficult to lay out and relax or even walk...More

We went through Carova on the Wild Horse tour. The only way to get to this area is by a four-wheel drive vehicle. Very secluded area!

Questionable depending how far back this road is....on the beach you should have no problem but when you go off the beach the sand can be unforgiving. We have had trouble in our four wheel drive truck with the loose sand and... More

We had no trouble finding the horses among the houses behind the dunes. As another response says be careful of the water holes as some are quite deep and will swamp your vehicle. A 4wheel drive is a must. If you are... More

You might pose this question to Corolla Outback Adventures. They would know. Look up the phone number and give them a call.
