Small distillery that supports local NC farmers
Jul 2019 • Couples
It may not look like much from the outside, but step inside the glass door to a clean and organized distillery. The owner, Andrew, provided our group with an in-depth tour and process of distilling their products.Jason was very knowledgeable during the product sampling. Each sample smelled and tasted exactly as described. Both Andrew and Jason were also extremely personable. They limit the number of people during the tour to make it an enjoyable tour for everyone.Take 45 minutes out of your time visiting Charlotte to take this tour, but book in advance to guarantee availability.

Great experience!
The distillery tour is a must for everyone interested in local crafted vodka, gin or whiskey! We got a lot of facts about the production processes of the different products and the tasting afterwards was great. Andrew did our tour himself, he also told us about the history of the company. We felt very welcomed and definitely would recommend it!

Great, but not gluten free
Great distillery, very knowledgeable and cool to see the process. I didn’t do my research to realize they’re all wheat based in their processing and I’m allergic to gluten, so I couldn’t do the tasting part, but the tour was great!

Small batch with a vision for the future
Nice tour in the back with great explanation of the process. Small tasting area but well tended. Taste vodka, gin, rye and bourbon. Catch Zack, white Z Z Top style beard. He is a hoot.

Learned a lot, glad I went!

Even if you're not a drinker, you'll enjoy this tour and learn a lot about the distilling process, history in regard to the process and sale of distilled spirits and current regulatory obstacles that exist. They take small groups on the tour so it feels personalized and they welcome questions. It's a much smaller operation than I've toured before so you can get close up to the equipment they use. The place is SO CLEAN! The sampling after the tour is quite nice and organized, letting you try each spirit they distill. You are allowed to buy some but NC laws are strange so it's a bit restrictive on quantities you can buy. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone.

Really good Gin
Sep 2018 • Friends
We stopped in because we wanted to do a tour but we were too late. The gentleman that was there was nice enough to let me try their gin, which was the only one I really wanted to try. It was really tasty gin! IF we ever make it back to the Charlotte area I would like to actually take the tour.

Informative
Sep 2018 • Friends
A friend and I took a tour of this distillery on a Saturday, it very informative on how they started and how they make their rum, bourbon, vodka and gin. I’ll likely come back to volunteer to bottle when they have openings. Parking is a bit tight, the facility makes use of all space though. They partner with farmers in North Carolina and make use of everything made. The tour was very affordable and there is a sampling of their products at the end of the tour and a souvenir shot glass. The tour was approximately 45 minutes long.

could not be more awesome

Four of us just did the Saturday Owner's tour led by Andrew Porter. It's a small place, but a fascinating process. He really knows his stuff and is very passionate about distilling. All of their grains are sourced in North Carolina and they are producing a Rye (very soft, delicious version), a Bourbon (a bit rougher, flavorful), a Vodka (butterscotch-y), and a Gin (not a gin fan, but great blend of florals to offset the juniper). Came home with a coouple of excellently distilled NC booze and can't wait to go back!

Great spirits distilled from local grains
Dec 2017 • Couples
Located in a small, non-descript building in the popular LoSo entertainment district is Doc Porter’s distillery and tasting room. The distillery is currently producing 4 spirits: vodka, gin, bourbon and rye. All of the grains used are sourced from North Carolina farms.

There are two tour/tasting options. There is a mini tour for $7 or an in-depth, 45-minute tour with the owner for $15. The tasting component is the same in both options. You get four, very small shots as the server explains each.

All four liquors had a clean, smooth finish. I enjoyed and purchased one of each. My personal favorite was the vodka. I thought it easily stands-up to the national (and international) quality brands. This is definitely a great stop if you enjoy quality spirits.

Note that due to NC law, you must show your driver’s license to purchase and you are limited to buying five bottles per person, per year directly from the distillery

Most Informative Distillery Tour
Jan 2018 • Friends
Made a tour reservation for my wife, myself and 2 friends. Tour started right on time and was given by Andrew Porter. Andrew was super friendly, knowledgeable and approachable. He nicely combined knowledge with humor. The tour and tasting lasted about an hour. We all left with an excellent understanding of the process for making each of the alcohols which are produced at the distillery. Highly recommended.
