We took the Local Flavors of NoDa tour, what a great experience. We were able to experience many different restaurants and establishments that we never would have found on our own. Going behind the scenes and interacting with the owners and chefs was truly a unique experience. We enjoyed it so much we have been back to every tour stop for lunch, dinner, dessert or a drink. Kristi Martin was great. Her knowledgeable yet easygoing demeanor was a perfect enhancement to the tour. I highly recommend Feast Food tours for everyone.

We did the Uptown Tour and for $80 a person I was really excited. It started at Rooster's where we got a small craft beer, pimento cheese with toast and a custom pizza which was all delicious. Next stop was The Asbury, we were given a delicious tomato salad that we got to make ourselves. I was sort of expecting something else since Rooster's set the bar so high, but that was all that we did there. Farenheit did not disappoint, we got a cocktail, chorizo stuffed dates and pimento cheese nachos with plenty to go around. Another delicious location. Following that we went to Evoke where we were shown how the bartender made a summer Rosemary Gin spritzer which was fantastic. We got another tomato salad, which was also delicious. The Mimosa Grill was next where we got a Blood Orange Spritzer and a sliced of pickled watermelon.
After reading tons of reviews about how people left the tour feeling stuffed, I have to say I was a little disappointed. It felt like some of the restaurants sort of cheaped out. I probably wouldn't recommend this tour just because of the price, I would be excited to try tours of other locations.
Our tour guide was fantastic!

Thank you for your overall feedback on all of the delicious foods & cocktails that you enjoyed on your Uptown Chic Tour as well as your thoughts on your tour guide. Very pleased to receive that insight. Although, I am sorry to hear that you may struggle with future recommendations of the tour due to not feeling stuffed after your tour or thoughts that the chefs may have cheaped out. This particular tour's focus and story showcases the Executive Chefs as well as some top Mixologists that are really pushing the boundaries with modern creations using locally sourced, heirloom, or hand crafted ingredients from area farmers and artisans. As we mention, the entire tour is choreographed to be Chef's Choice because we (FEAST) do not want to get in the way of a master craftsman's creativity or run the risk of missing out on amazing seasonal ingredients they may have just received that week. On your particular tour, the stars did seem to do a rare alignment with a few of the Chefs preparing some lighter "salad-style" plates that were showcasing some of those rare Summer ingredients - like the unique sweet habanero or the once-thought-extinct and extremely rare Bradford Watermelon. I have not seen this many lighter courses on past tours, but we will definitely mention it to the Chefs. (As you also experienced, the other reasons for the price difference on this particular tour are the multiple one-on-one cooking/hands-on/cocktail demonstrations, luxury transportation for half the tour, Uptown parking garage validation, etc.)
It would be a pleasure having you on any future tour experiences in other parts of the city. Many of them tell totally different stories that may lend themselves to heavier comfort foods or other experiences you may prefer. Please feel free to contact us and we can walk through those tour options to find the one that will better fit your needs and interests. Thanks again for being with us and we really appreciate the feedback!

My husband and I had a fantastic experience on our first food tour (Flavors of NoDa) that we decided to try the Uptown food tour. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
For both tours the amount of food you get is very reasonable - I was stuffed after both. The quality of the places we visited was excellent - Kristi (the proprietor and who runs the tours) puts together a great selection of places. You can expect a great variety and a warm welcome from each of the restaurants you visit. Other than the awesome food you get to taste, meeting the chefs/people who manage/run the restaurants makes the tour worth it. You get insights and background stories into the place/chef/food and you have the opportunity to ask the chef any question you want. Kristi is not only a friendly tour guide but she's also very knowledgable about Charlotte's food and restaurant front.

It was interesting to go to the 6 different restaurants, but we only got a tour of the kitchen at Ruth's Chris Steak House and an interesting cooking explanation at Vapiano. I would have liked to have had more variety in the foods -- 3 of the 6 restaurants served shrimp -- so if you don't like shrimp, you're out of luck. At least I learned that I won't be returning to 4 of the 6 restaurants.

Thank you so much for your feedback - it is a gift that helps us maintain & update our food tour experiences. I understand and relate to your concern about the variety of food. Shrimp was the main dish at one establishment and served along with other items at two other stops. Many of our participating Chefs have the choice to customize and provide non-menu items for our tour guests to make the experience unique & special each week. Therefore, all of the forces seemed to collide that day among the Chefs' choices and we have taken steps to reduce that chance in the future without stifling their creativity. I am glad that you enjoyed one of the kitchen tours and one of the cooking demonstrations. I hope you also enjoyed the other Chef experiences and the sommelier's wine pairing class. Thanks again for participating and sharing your insight so that we can do our best to showcase Charlotte through its food establishments, chefs, and culinary artisans.

Really enjoyed listening to the history of the Noda area, why it's named that and sampling some of their delights. Have done a few other of their tours and always very good. Would recommend the Noda one though for those who like sampling different local beers.

There are many choices for Feast Food Tours, but we picked the Southend tour because Southend is so up and coming a destination in Charlotte. Our guide was very knowledgable about the history of the area, as well as the history of the particular restaurants and their chefs. Great fun and great food!

Nice enough but not a local so her knowledge was understandably limited.
NoDa Tour Info:
Should clearly state that at least half of the stops are exclusively beer-centric not food. We don't drink beer which limited our appreciation of the stops. The host at one beer stop made the comment "If you don't like beer what are you doing here?", It wasn't clear we were on a beer tour! If the website was clearer we'd have chosen a different tour!
Tight quarters at some of the establishments did not allow for people to sit or sit in one area. You'd think the establishments chosen would be picked to accommodate a group of 14 people including the host.
Website states
You will "Interact with key players at each restaurant": Not so; in more than one case there was no such interaction.
"Six locally owned culinary establishments". Not so.. retail establishments don't fit this
description.
Poorly described tour. Owner should review website wording and decide how much of the description is accurate.
Given that beer was no attraction for us, the food offerings at some stops were slim:
Popcorn and Olives? A piece of nut bread? A couple of wings? Pimento cheese and crqackers and a sample of Kombucha?
Sorry to say the value was not there for us. We've spent the same or less on a number of food tours with much better offerings.

Thank you for your feedback and insight. We are sorry that our NoDa Tour did not meet your expectations and our tour description did not set the right perception. We do not call this tour a beer tour because out of 6 total food stops small craft beer samples are an option at 3 stops served along with food offerings. You are correct, we do ebb and flow the food offerings from light (like the items you mentioned) to heavy (chef’s choice items of pizza, sliders, tacos, etc.) to find the equivalent to a light meal
Some of the discussion and educational components of the tour do focus on craft beer because it is important for us to share the culinary history and “local flavors” of the neighborhood. With craft beer being a huge part of NoDa’s recent history and the vibrant nightlife in the area, we hope you learned some interesting facts during the behind-the-scenes brewery tour and in-depth food & beverage pairing class with an Advanced Cicerone.
On all of our tours, when we learn that craft beer is not preferred by some of our guests, we love discussing different options and providing alternatives to try. Maybe that is finding a unique flavor profile, sampling a different type of brew still made in-house or local to Charlotte like the coffee, tea, cider, or ginger beer on tap, and things like the custom craft beer cocktail offered by one host. We wish we had better insight during your experience to your preferences so we could have made immediate suggestions.
I appreciate your feedback on your guide. I will make sure she does not cause future confusion when she shares her personal story of being born in VA, but has been a local to Charlotte for many years even living near NoDa. It is also one of our hiring requirements to have lived in Charlotte for a minimum amount of time.
Thanks for letting us know about the seating arrangements. A couple of the venues we visit in NoDa are on the smaller size because they are housed in historic buildings that bring charm to the neighborhood. That is one reason we cap our tour to 12-13 guests (plus our guide who does not sit/eat) so everyone can be together. We will follow up with our restaurants to see what may have happened on your tour - we traditionally all sit together taking over reserved full bars, private rooms, and tables. Two of our restaurants & bars incorporate the history of NoDa’s art galleries, so even though we have reserved tables from our hosts where guests can sit we encourage guests to eat, drink, and roam to explore the art, murals, and unique lounge areas for the full experience.
We pride ourselves on sharing the culinary stories of Charlotte, connecting our guests to culinary artisans & entrepreneurs of the community, and educating those that explore with us. I am sorry to hear that the craft beer interactions on your tour impacted your experience. Please reach out to us so we can provide a service adjustment and assist further. We appreciate you taking the time to share.

We did the Taste of the South. great variety of restaurants. Lovely and Energetic guide. Only complaint is that McNinch House host on Fri 26Jan2018 was very snobby. Suggest to replace the last 2 wine and cheese at the Market with other local restaurants, maybe a dessert bar at the end of tour.

Thank you so much for sharing your feedback regarding your recent tour experience! I appreciate you sharing your perceptions of one of our hosts. Since our tours are geared to personally connect you during some one-on-one time with some of the best restaurateurs, chefs, and food producers, that is usually when our hosts get to let their "hair down" to give you fun insight into their operation and personal lives. Traditionally, that type of connection is very apparent at that particular stop because their unique fine dining approach is what guests usually see and not the personal glimpse you get on tour into the passionate individuals behind the operation. So pleased you enjoyed your tour guide as well as the variety of restaurants we visited that cater to local & Southern cuisine. I will definitely evaluate your request for a sweet bite at the end either in addition to or in place of our current less traditional way to end a dining experience with cheese. Thanks for participating and providing the gift of feedback! Please let us know how we can help you explore Charlotte again in the future!

Originally, I registered for a different food tour with Feast but was upgraded to the Chef-Driven Dining tour in Uptown because the other was cancelled. The $25 difference in food tour prices and later start time made the change a pleasant one.
The tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable and made an effort to talk to every tourist and get to know them. She has a great relationship with all the chefs at the stops and regularly attends Charlotte culinary events.
The samples on the tour change each time because the chefs at the stops prepare whatever is seasonal. But on my tour day, we had poodle, an heirloom tomato salad, local beer, wood-fired pizza, house made liqueur, an oyster gazpacho, a mixed drink, wine, and a torta. Every sample was excellent, and the chefs talked about each dish. Several stops were interactive where tourists plated their dish or designed a pizza. The chefs seemed to really enjoy interacting with tourists and explaining the concepts behind their menu or where they source ingredients.
This was a very enjoyable way to spend the afternoon. And for someone not real familiar with the city a great way to discover great restaurants to visit again.

We are bringing a group of around 30 seniors...can you do that many people? do you offer a trolley?
Written June 16, 2018
Thanks for your inquiry! Our private group maximum for one custom tour itinerary would be about 14-16 guests. We could offer two simultaneous itineraries to accommodate the entire group of 30 if you are willing to divide the group.
Each of our usual tour itineraries are choreographed to be a walking tour. However, if we need to customize the experience to utilize transportation, we can definitely adjust and make arrangements for a chartered bus.
I hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any other questions or how we can assist further!

Where does the Dives to Dining Plaza Midwood Tour start? Thank you!
Written April 11, 2017
Thank you for your interest in the Dives to Dining Plaza Midwood Tour. The starting location may vary depending on the date of your experience. Upon registering for your tour, you will receive the confirmation & meeting details for your specific tour.
If you are trying to gauge distance from a hotel or other area of town, most of our starting locations are in the vicinity of say 1500 Central Avenue as a "central location". This historic neighborhood is about 2 miles East of Uptown/Center City.
I hope that helps answer your question. Please let us know how else we can assist you. Look forward to having you on a future tour.

Have a few questions:
Are dogs allowed?
I'm coming here on a Saturday at 3 pm, any tour options?
And how long is each tour?
Thank you!
Written April 1, 2017
Thank you for your interest! Unfortunately, the laws set up for our local restaurants do not allow them inside the establishments. Our tour logistics do require us to go inside each establishment. Therefore, the restaurants would not be able to accommodate a dog.
We do have a couple of tours that start at 3pm on a Saturday. Which tours will depend on the Saturday, city-wide/neighborhood events, and restaurant availability. Typically, our Saturday at 3pm tours are our Dives to Dining Plaza Midwood Tour or our Chef-Driven Dining in Uptown Tour. Each tour lasts for 3 hours.
I hope that helps answer your questions. If you need any additional assistance, please contact us! Thanks again for your interest and hope we can have you on a future tour experience!

Yes, children are allowed. Please be aware that the food tour structure is not just a "dine around". We incorporate educational elements & demonstrations, exclusive one-on-one conversations with owners/chefs, and provide additional engaging commentary along the way. I'm not sure how old the children in question are, but if you feel they may not be interested in those moments or may even affect your overall experience and ability to be engaged, I just want to let you know so you can make that educated decision.
I hope that helped answer your question. Please let us know how we can assist further or give us a call/email to discuss specifics or we can also help find the tour that may be a better fit.

Hello Steve! So very sorry for such a delayed response (did not seem to be notified of this question). Those that have already answered are correct, it depends on the tour:
We have one tour that runs on the 2nd & 4th Saturdays from 11am - 2pm: Local Flavors of NoDa Tour
A couple that run on Saturdays from 3pm - 6pm: Dives to Dining Plaza Midwood Tour and our Uptown Chic Behind-the-Scenes Tour
A couple that run on Fridays from 4pm - 7pm: Soul of the South Uptown Tour and our Bars & Bites South End Tour
We can also do private group experiences throughout the week at a custom time. The only caveat is that we need to avoid peak meal periods when the restaurants are the busiest. I hope that helps answer your question. Please let me know how I can assist further!

Hi, I have a dear Friend coming from Berlin Germany to Visit me for 2 weeks in Charlotte. THe only other place she has ever been to in the United States Is Los Angeles and we KNOW we eat much different food here. I would like to give he a REAL taste of Southern Cuisine. Classy but Southern! She stays at 5 star hotels and eats at Europe's finest restaurants. She will be here on August 17th or 18th and will be here until August 30th. Do you have anything we might be interested in?? Probably myself, and I am handicapped but ambulatory about 90% of the time but I cannot walk long distances, possibly my husband or brother depending on which one is not out of town for business and my friend. SO three adults. Give me a little info and a list of prices! Your reviews were OUTSTANDING!!!!!! Thank YOU Candace Reese-Rodriguez
Written July 22, 2015
Hello Candace! Thank you for your question and your interest. Two of our tour experiences that are running during that timeframe come to mind that may be a great fit for you and your dear friend: our Soul of the South Uptown Tour or our Uptown Chic Behind-the-Scenes Tour. The Uptown Chic Tour would have the least amount of walking since half of the tour utilizes transportation. Here is a breakdown of the details per tour:
Soul of the South Uptown Tour:
- Runs August 21 from 4pm - 7pm
- $55 per person including food & beverage
- Showcases a wide variety of Southern cuisine, products, and hospitality. Therefore, we tell the stories of everything from BBQ and local craft beer to locally made food & beverage products from area artisans to fine dining twists on local food. So a good mix of Southern comfort foods and finer cuisine - but all classy in their own way.
Uptown Chic Behind-the-Scenes Tour:
- Runs August 22 from 3pm - 6pm
- $80 per person including food, beverage, transportation, and Uptown parking validation
- Showcases the modern chic "Charlotte/Southern" cuisine that some of the best Uptown chefs and their teams are creating utilizing local ingredients. These chefs and artisans are masters at their craft so we will get demonstrations and exclusive access, education, and insight into their operation & passion. All of these establishments are the "finest" of Uptown to coincide with your friend's experience.
I hope those options provide some help and answers your question. I am happy to talk through more options. Let me know how I can assist further! Thanks again for your interest!
