A giant head in Charlotte? Yep. This unique statue is pretty cool to see and stand in amazement. There was no one else around when we visited that morning. It does not take long to view it but its pretty neat.

What a way cool moveable sculpture! I was here on a Monday and it was very quiet - nobody else around though I'm sure there were people in the offices. Just sat and watched it for a while. The only video I took on my entire trip!
Highly recommend visiting this when you are in the area!

Metalmorphosis is a unique stainless steel sculpture of a giant head by Czech Artist David Cerny. The piece is about 25 ft tall, weighing approximately 14 tons, has seven layers that rotate in various patterns, forming and reforming the Giant Head, apparently controlled by the artist from his computer in the Czech Republic.
It was unveiled in 2007. The statue is better known in Europe, especially in Prague, where the artist has many unusual statues (The best known: Two “Peeing Men”)
As it is not situated in the downtown area, many people miss it. In fact, most people in NC have never heard of it.
Lovely to sit around on a hot day. We had no problem parking the car opposite. Probably, the best time to visit would be on Sunday, as the Corporate Park would have no employees, thus parking will be no problem...

Don't worry folks, Metalmorhosis will be back soon. The sculpture isn't going anywhere, it was just taken apart for extensive repairs and maintenance. It'll be back in full working order real soon!

According to our GPS the monument was only 3 miles from our hotel. We drove there after breakfast only to find a metal pole, no sculpture and a dried up fountain under construction.
It would be nice to know when the construction will be finished. We would still like to see it, just not on this trip!

I was surprised that an outdoor sculpture in a business park would be one of the top attractions for Charlotte, but now having seen it I understand. It's a really awesome photo opportunity!
To be clear, it's a statue of a head. That's it. There's nothing to do besides take pictures, or possibly read a book and enjoy the relaxing sound of the water. There's no food, nowhere to use the restroom, and if it's during the day when the offices are full, you might have a little bit of a walk for parking. It's also not particularly close to anything else of interest. So probably not the best excursion for the kiddies - they'll be bored out of their minds.
But for us photography enthusiasts, it's an awesome photo op and very interesting! On the plus side, it's out in the open so you can access the site day or night, free of charge (parking is also free). Outside of office hours, parking is basically unlimited and there's really no one around to get in the pictures. I took more pictures than I care to admit, and thoroughly enjoyed myself.

When David Cerny's giant metal rotating fountain head was functioning it was an amazing sight! "Metalmorphosis" or Metal Mo has now disappeared as of October 14, 2012! All that remains is a sad reminder of the great head --- a solid cement pillar in the middle of what was a beautiful rimless fountain pool. If anyone knows if it will return once repaired- please post here!
I wish I had taken a photo of what remains of the structure but we were just too stunned and sad at the loss of our favorite South Charlotte sculpture.

Travelled half way across the city to visit Metamorphosis only to find out that the structure had been pulled down. No sign indicating when it will be back or whether it will be back at all.

Drove here (7/20/19) to see the sculpture and to my surprise it was G.O.N.E. It appears they are remodeling or are changing things up and decided to take the sculpture down. Move along folks nothing to see here 😢🤬.

I just heard about this and was so excited to see it but arrived and statue was missing. So sad :-( I hope someone will notify me if it ever is replaced.

At the moment it’s not a sculpture but a metal pipe with nothing attached to it. Don’t go and see it because it’s under construction. There wasn’t a sign informing visitors when it will be working. I wish I could tell you how long before it will be fixed but I have no idea. Again, don’t go.

Cuando reabrirán la exhibición de la escultura, ya que no hay nada en este momento? Y por qué no avisan cuando se encuentra en mantenimiento?

Hi Dana. I'll be visiting Charlotte next week and am hoping the Metamorphosis is finished with repairs. It looks like it from the webcam, but since you were just there 2 weeks ago, I'd love to know if it's really back. Any updates? Thanks!

Hi! I haven't been out to see it yet, but yes it is up and working again. :)

When will Metalmorphosis be finished with construction? We'll be visiting in March 2017 and I'd love to see it, Thanks!
Written March 10, 2017
The sculpture has a Facebook page and, as of today, it says "We're still working on getting him back to full working order". It doesn't say when work will be completed.

This sculpture is dismantled....is it under repair or being moved?
When will it be completed if under repair?
Written February 3, 2017
The only thing I can tell you is that during Thanksgiving weekend, it was functional.
Written February 3, 2017
I took a group of seniors to see it and they were dismantling it. Was it moved to a different location?
Written May 23, 2016
It seems that there are a lot of questions about whether the statue is still there. Evidently, it was removed for repairs, but it has been back up for some time. Yukibar, I'm curious about when you were there... I was there a few months ago and it was up (fountain wasn't running). I work nearby, so I'll drive by and see if it's there now.

I agree with the other travelers. It sure this is something they would take down.
