This is a brand-new art museum in center city Charlotte, N.C. I found the museum to be interesting, but with significant limitations for serious lovers of modern art.

We recently spent a lovely 90 minutes exploring the 3 floors of art in the Bechtler Museum. We arrived at 10am opening and had the exhibits virtually to ourselves. The current works of b&w photos from Mexico in the 1930’s are wonderful! The permanent collection...More

I was fortunate to visit when the museum was featuring two floors of photographs of Mexico, carefully curated. They included Paul Sands’ famous portfolio from the 1930s on one floor, complemented by five Mexican or “American-Mexican” photographers from the last century and some more contemporary....More

I was disappointed not to see all of the Bechtler collection as there was an exhibition loaned by the Bank of America. It was interesting but why not warn visitors on their web site that much of their collection is not on view. The staff...More

Hardly anything is open. They give you a ticket for a year but I will not be back in Charlotte for some time. There were a few photos and a small collection. Took maybe 10 minutes. Watched a W.C Fields movie for a while, which...More

Today we had earmarked especially to go to this museum and see some of its special prices. After we had paid to get in the young lady behind the counter told us that the 4th floor was closed to renovations. But that the other 2...More

After paying the admission I indeed expected a bigger museum. However the main gallery on the highest floor was showing a very well composed presentation of Jean Tinguely's works and works in relation to it. I enjoyed spending an hour with this. Still only a...More

There are many innovative galleries and many pieces are copied and placed in the surrounding area. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable.

Wonderful exhibits on three floors including some outside to enjoy the outdoors. Admission is reasonable and there are plenty of parking garages around. Plus if you are a Bank of America customer, there are a few weekends throughout the year that you can get into...More
