Remodeled church is lovely. Good lobby, lots of parking in the area. Cozy theater, so you are always close to the stage. Highly recommended.

We saw Mark O’Connor family band Christmas show and love love love this intimate McGlothan theater. The historic venue, the stained glass, the way it’s tied into the entire Spirit Square causes me to look for opportunities to experience shows there. I don’t think there are any bad seats in the house! Did I mention I love this place?

We had great seats in the McGlohan Theater within Spirit Square. It was a fantastic small venue. The show was a huge disappointment. We had third row seats center. Had great view of the stage. There were six actors and a piano player. The music was the best part of the show. We expected adult language and situations for which Second City is know to present with wit, originality, innuendo, and hilarity. What we saw was, at best, middle school humor that lacked substance and sophisticated wit. Three of the actors relied heavily on using the F word. One actor kept grabbing her crotch as frequently as she could. Perhaps she was trying to channel Molly Shannon’s character that put her hands under her armpits. There seemed no rationale other than “ look at me.” The tall goofy guy was like a combination of a third rate Will Farell and Jim Carrey combo. His attempts at physical humor were labored and trite. Some skits had potential never realized and others you wish would have ended sooner. There was a guy who did a great routine about motivational school speakers, but the actress he was paired with ruined his pace and delivery. She was mildly amusing at best. The two standouts were a short guy with curly hair and a woman who was petite and wore a black short dress. The really cheap part was no program was provided so I can’t even recognize the good performers by name. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT

Well you are a breath away from the actores which can be nice. It's quaint and cozy. We saw a performance, but left at the intermission because the seating was SO very uncomfortable! The seats are old and they must not have any cushion on them and every time you moved (which sadly I had to move a lot) they were very loud. The theatre had a neighborhood feel and that was nice, but I think our expectations were MUCH higher. We do love the Matthews Playhouse MUCH better!
Oh, it was VERY casual too. We were WAY overdressed - OOPS!

Was at McGlohon Theatre in Spirit Square tonight for a Taj Mahal concert. He was terrific, but the venue allowed some lady to stand offstage watching and dancing around - very distracting. She should not have been allowed to be there at all, in view of the audience on one side. To make matter worse she was wearing red. We paid plenty for those seats, only to have trouble enjoying the performance because of her.

Was a nice intimate venue. Sound very good. This particular play has lots of extensive vocabulary requiring concentration. Actors did a fine job. Was a different interpretation and presentation of the book than what I had expected. Definitely recommend people go and enjoy. Actors really moved about the stage and room.

Located inside of the Spirit Square Arts Center are the Duke Energy Theatre and the McGlohon Theatre. Both have separate entrances with access to either theatre. Saw a play at the Duke Energy Theatre, the seating is sort of a bleacher type so you're view won't be obstructed.Being a small theatre there's really not a bad seat.

Intimate theater (Duke Energy) without a bad seat, unless you are in one of the squeaky chairs. We really enjoyed our date night here.
