Tour this charming University town. We start at the Morehead Planetarium Sun Dial, stroll down the main street seeing the town's oldest buildings, site of 1960's protests, and several famous outdoor murals. We will delve into the history of UNC as we travel along one of the college's main roads. It's a lovely, easy, barrier-free tour. Go to http://freewalkingtourschapelhill.com to join us.

I enjoy walking tours, they give you a deeper understanding of the local history. Sally was immediately responsive to an email I sent and was there waiting at our meeting spot when I arrived. Unfortunately the weather was rainy so several people who had signed up did not show. However Sally willingly proceeded with the walk. Sally’s family has lived in Chapel Hill for many years which gives her an in-depth perspective of the town and the area. She shared historical facts and had photos of a few memorable past events. She knows an artist who painted some of the murals in Chapel Hill so could share interesting information about what was painted. I particularly enjoyed the information she shared about businesses on Franklin Street. I immediately came home and recommended this tour to my son and his wife.

Sally was great, she was really nice and patient (we had a non-English speaker and she was super friendly), the tour was amazing, we got the change to learn a lot about Chapel Hill's history and fun facts. Those kind of stuff you can't find on the Internet.
We would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Chapel Hill or trying to learn more about this charming small city.

Although we've lived in Chapel Hill for some time, we learnt a lot from Sally's well planned tour of the town and UNC campus. It was a small group and so a really intimate experience. Sally was very happy to answer our questions and we didn't feel rushed at all. If Sally introduces other themed tours of Chapel Hill, we'll sign-up right away. Thanks Sally

We really enjoyed our tour! We had Mrs. Sally all to ourselves, so she geared it to us. She even included a bathroom break. Mrs. Sally was very knowledgeable. My favorite part was learning all about the original buildings to the area, how the town was built around the University, and learning about the art and murals. My kids loved that it was learning outside! And we all liked the garden. We would definitely recommend this tour.

Even after living in Chapel Hill for over 25 years, I learned so much about this town with Sally! She's truly a Tar Heel born and bred and makes this tour so memorable. We started with the history of the University and walked along its journey to the thriving educational and athletic UNC it is today. Highly recommend a tour by Sally to any one visiting for the first time, long time residents, and Tar Heel fans young and old. You'll walk away knowing and loving Chapel Hill in so many ways!

Wow what an adventure we had walking with Sally over the weekend! Her knowledge of the area is astounding…and wondrous. I highly recommend taking the tour if you’re visiting or aren’t a native of the area. I’ve lived in Chapel Hill for 4 years and learned so many fun, interesting things about the town from Sally - made my weekend💙

The tour of Downtown Chapel Hill was great - very informative, with a good overview of multiple topics from the city murals to UNC history (including some sports tidbits) to civil rights to the arts. Sally was a terrific guide, who demonstrated the in-depth knowledge that comes from long-term residency and love of the area. Not strenuous (90 minutes & about 1.5 miles). The tour, followed by a late lunch at a local brewery, was the perfect way to spend an afternoon with my college aged son.

What a great way to spend an afternoon! Sally was the best tour guide for this 1.5 hour tour around a section of Chapel Hill. She was extremely knowledgeable and had so many unique stories about the area and history of Chapel Hill and North Carolina. She also has a claim to fame - ask her about it. It was a hot July day, 90 degrees, but Sally made sure that our frequent stops were in the shade. The pace was just fine for this 65 year old although next time I won't bring my purse. Just throw your car keys in your pocket along with your cell phone to take pics, wear comfortable walking shoes and take a bottle of water and you'll be set. And while you're there, stop for a drink and something to eat on Franklin Street before or after.

This historic walking tour of Chapel Hill has just the right amount of history, local culture, architecture, fun facts and, of course, plenty on the University of North Carolina. The colorful murals were fascinating. Especially enjoyed the civil rights events of the 1960's. The campus is lovely with large tree canopies everywhere and a five acre garden. CH has only 30,000 residents but 30,000 students when school's in session! Oldest public University in the States (1792!) Sally is a knowledgable native who clearly loves her home town. Good pace and plenty of shade. Highly recommend.

After the walking tour with Sally I feel more vested in the south, and more specifically, Chapel Hill. She has interesting tidbits of information that you cannot get from clicking a mouse. I am looking forward to the next tour.
