We were in Cashiers for Father's Day weekend and went out on Captain Mark's waterfall cruise on Saturday. It was fantastic! Due to earlier damage to the propeller of his pontoon boat (which he had been assured had been repaired properly), he was not able to come up to full cruising speed and offered to refund our money, since we wouldn't have enough time to cruise the lake to see all four waterfalls. There were five guests on the boat and since the weather was perfect, we all agreed that we wanted to go out anyway rather than receive a refund. Captain Mark managed to fill the two hours with a lovely cruise on Lake Glenville during which he showed us one of the waterfalls. We even discovered a small waterfall which he had not seen before. We also saw a bald eagle and a nest of three fledglings! There are some beautiful homes along the lake shore and it was nice viewing them as well. All the while, Captain Mark shared his knowledge with a fascinating narration of the history of the lake itself (including the indigenous peoples who once inhabited the land) and the nesting habits of the bald eagles. It was a wonderful way to spend part of our day during our visit to Cashiers. Highly recommended!!

I can’t think of a better way to spend 2 hours in the Cashiers area than taking this guided cruise on Lake Glenville! Capt. Mark entertains you with the history of the area, anecdotes about the flora and fauna in the area, and ultimately shows you four scenic waterfalls. Kids and adults alike will love his stories, love feeding the ducks that swim out to meet you in certain coves, maybe catch sight of the bald eagles that inhabit one of the islands, and just enjoy being on this beautiful lake on a summers day. We were lucky to avoid forecast rain showers, but the cruise goes rain or shine. The pontoon boat is quite large and covered, accommodating our cruise group of 12 adequately for social distancing. Capt. Mark took everyone’s temperature before boarding, and wearing a mask was optional since we were outdoors. You can bring your own snacks and drinks, but be sure to visit the bathroom before leaving on your 2 hour cruise! I highly recommend!

We toured the lake on this fantastic craft and Capt. Wise yesterday.

Mark is incredibly well versed in the history of the lake and the area, as well as the flora and fauna of the area.

He is extremely professional and definitely stresses safety afloat. Also just super friendly.

He even went out of his way to way to show us newborn eagles. Amazing.

I would highly recommend raincoats (and even pants if you have them) as it does rain occasionally due to the local climate.

We are in NC on vacation with our family and just HAD to go on this cruise. The captain was VERY accommodating to the date/time we requested for our cruise. We got up close to the waterfalls, saw the bald eagle's nests, and many more breathtaking views. Captain Wise is VERY knowledgeable on Lake Glenville, the nature of the lake, and the history of the area. Not only was the experience wonderful in the sights, but it was also quite educational. I would HIGHLY recommend that all Western NC visitors go see Captain Wise and take a trip out on the lake. Thank You Captain for a wonderful time!

If you are in the area, this is a great excursion to see some beautiful waterfalls and homes on the lake in a relaxed setting! And Captain Mark makes it the best. He's so knowledgeable about the ecology and history of the region as well as entertaining with his insights and stories. My husband and I learned so much and found it very interesting. Captain Mark got us all excited to see the bald eagles in the trees and soaring in the sky. And the ducks look out for him everyday for some bread treats – the kids on board enjoyed this. We brought a charcuterie and drinks to have our lunch on board. It was a bit chilly as the sun wasn't out yet, so bring an extra jacket like it recommends at this time of year or a blanket. Highly recommend.

One of my most favorite activities I've done in the Cashiers area EvEr!! We booked this tour on my 35th birthday and it was a wonderfully beautiful, relaxing and educational cruise. Myself, my mom and husband all left feeling more than satisfied with the experience we had for the price. I can't imagine anything better I could have chosen for a birthday treat. Sure you can rent a boat, but having an awesome captain who knows all the coves and crannies of the lake makes this a much greater value for your time and money! We have a lake where we live that we enjoy. We don't have 4 waterfalls, lots of fun facts about the lake (as well as it's extravagant residences) or a known bald eagle's nest!!! So great and we even got to see Mama Eagle. We did the 11 am mixed group tour and packed our lunch, jackets, sunglasses and let the relaxation begin. We definitely plan to go again when we're in the area and have already been telling friends and family to check it out on their next trip too!! Captain Mark did a great job and I'm so glad we found this excursion!!

P.S. Don't forget to pack a few crackers for the ducks you'll meet along the journey

P.S.S. This tour was so great we tipped the Captain at the end. At no point was this suggested or recommended but we were that blown away by Captain Mark and his knowledge, passion and phenomenal boat driving skills I felt it was more than deserved & important to let him know we appreciated the exceptional experience

Captain Mark made our trip our trip to Cashiers for the day from Flat Rock, NC well worthwhile. It was a chilly day, but Captain Mark soon warmed it up with his humor and knowledge of the lake and surrounding areas. Much to both the children and (adults) on board, he stopped at the Eagles’ nest just in time to see one of the babies trying their wings and flying from the nest to the branch above. Wonderful day and well worth the price.

We scheduled our tour of Lake Glenville on the final day of the 2022 season in hopes of seeing some beautiful fall color. The tour did not disappoint! The weather was brisk, so I recommend hats, gloves, coats and blankets if you schedule the tour in the fall. Captain Mark was great! In addition to providing the history of the lake and surrounding area , he took the time to point out the resident bald eagles' nest and other sites of interest. A boat tour is the ideal way to see Lake Glenville, as the views from the water are unbeatable. It's a fantastic way to spend a couple of hours in the mountains of NC. A worthwhile experience for sure!

Loved this wonderful cruise on beautiful Lake Glenville. Captain Mark is an excellent guide with vast knowledge of the lake and it's history. The pontoon boat is quite large and covered and easily accommodated 12 people with social distancing. Temperatures were taken and hand sanitizer distributed. Masks were optional since it was outside. My sister and I felt very safe. We were blessed with a beautiful day and thoroughly enjoyed our 2 hours cruise around the lake and seeing some beautiful waterfalls and homes. Anyone in the area should definitely put this on their "to do" list!

I originally booked this tour just to have a nice boat ride and get the lay of the land while staying on Lake Glenville. It end up being the surprise highlight of our trip. The boat ride and waterfalls are beautiful and lovely but it's really Captain Mark that makes the experience one we keep telling people about. Well, Captain Mark and the two bald eagles I should say. Captain Mark is incredibly knowledgeable about waterfowl, the lake, history in general, foliage, and even a little bit about some of the homes on the lake. He seems to really enjoy sharing his wealth of knowledge which makes for enjoyable listening. I know he probably could never advertise this as part of the tour but we were just in awe of the two bald eagles. Mama was about to nest and daddy was standing guard. We later saw him catch an updraft high into the sky and take off. Captain Mark makes sure you don't miss a thing.

Pro tips - we regretted forgetting our binoculars to get a closer look at the bald eagles and when he recommends dressing warmly, he means it. We were comfortable in our beanies, gloves, jackets, and blanket but there some on the boat that brought just a light jacket who looked pretty uncomfortable in the mid April weather. Just bring more layers than you think you would need, the worst thing that happens is you take it off. I think if you have kids, they would probably be delighted sitting right at the front of the boat because he gets you right up to some of the waterfalls so get there a little early to grab those seats. But truly, there's no bad seat on this tour!
