The sites can be tight for some rigs but have good separation. A few sites have electric and there is water and dump available. Almost all sites partially to heavily shaded, could not get satellite service. Note that gate is locked at 9PM so you...More

Just minutes from town and the beach, this little park is like a completely different world from the ocean side of the island. Raised walkways and sandy paths let you stroll at your own pace. There is a wonderful visitor center with a great interactive...More

I grew up by this park and it was my playground as a kid. It is typical coastal pine barren located on the Cape Fear River. Many trails and a very diverse eco-system. Great marina with boat ramps, very nice camping. They now have camping...More

Part of the NC State Park system, this park is the best deal in the area for camping and walking about the Cape Fear River area. I have fished there several times and have enjoyed the variety caught. Be aware this is a wooded park...More

Ah the woods, Ah the intercoastal waterway... Peaceful, not stressful. Bath/Shower facilities not ADA accessible. No outside floodlights on said facilities. No parking for handicapped. Obvious that handicapped are persona-non-grata. Will bring to my state legislators' attention. I enjoyed myself though challenged. Did not get...More

Visited the park while on Spring Break vacation. Very nice park. The staff were super friendly and very informative. We walked two of the trails available. The Sugar Loaf is the longest at three miles. It was pretty easy and incredibly well marked. Lots of...More

My family went camping here. The sites were nice and spacious and well shaded. The bad thing was that the gate closes super early for a beach town at 9pm. Also the bathrooms were super far away from our campsite which was a hassle with...More

The state park is not the same thing as the Atlantic Ocean coastline at the town of Carolina Beach. It's a wonderful nugget of beauty bordered by the Cape Fear River to the east and Snow's Cut, part of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway to the...More

I was wondering how bad the bugs are the first week in April. I will be tent camping and was concerned about being close to Cape Fear and mosquitoes, etc. Also, do any of the nearby beaches allow dogs? Thanks

The towns make decisions about whether dogs are allowed on the beaches. Some do, but only during the "off season". Check the town websites. CB State Park does allow dogs, but with restrictions, so I would check with them as... More

It borders a river channel behind the park. Which is a nice walk. With a lot of sandy areas to hang out on. But it's about a 10 min car ride to the ocean beach.
