Really fun for the family. We brought 3 kids (6, 8,10)who had never white water rafted before and were nervous that they would be scared but they LOVED it. The age requirement for children is minimum age 7 or minimum 60 lbs. Our 6 year old was ok because she was over the weight limit. Our guide Matt was great with the kids and gave us extra time to jump off a large rock into the water several times even jumping off with us when the kids asked him to go. The facilities were very clean and had nice, hot showers which the kids were especially happy for after the cold water. Definitely would recommend taking guided tour. Also, they have photographer take pics at the end for the 2 big falls and prices were reasonable. All the employees were really nice and friendly!

We had an awesome time rafting down the Nantahala Gorge with AFR today. Our guide Laz made it a fun and exciting 2 hour trip in a small group raft of 6 passengers. Per her rating, most of the rapids where either Class I or II, with a nice Class III at the end. During the more quiet phases she kept us informed and entertained with explanations about the river and the surrounding flora.
At all times she had great control of the raft, and kept it interesting with fun spins thru the slower rapids.
AFR operates out of their new outpost, which is modern and has large and clean bathrooms/changing rooms. While there are many rafting places along the gorge, this sets them apart from some of the places we saw on our trip.
Would recommend this trip to beginners and intermediates, for advanced guests AFR also offers 2-seated kayaks (without guide), which can follow along the larger rafts.

Got the impression from going down the river that the "big" rafting companies were all about just getting the job done and not about making the experience the best it could be for their customers. Fast Rivers was ALL ABOUT making it a fun experience you will definitely remember! The check-in was fast, well organized and friendly. Everyone wearing masks and we always felt incredibly safe. Our guide Tim was amazing. Honestly couldn't have asked for more. He knew the river and hit all the fun rapids right on, shared tons of info about the history of the surrounding area, and made it just an incredible experience. At the end back at the building there are nice hot showers to warm up from the chilly river water. Restrooms were very clean! Highly recommend!

We booked a private rafting trip in order for our family to enjoy an outdoor activity while minimizing contact with others. When we inquired about the social distancing policy for the mandatory shuttle, we were told that they were doing their best and that we would be able to leave a seat in between ourselves and other families. We were last to board the full-size yellow school bus and every single seat was packed with patrons (none wearing masks). There were two other school buses sitting empty on the property that could have allowed for appropriate safety protocol. Eventually, we were begrudgingly provided alternate transportation.

The rafting trip itself was fine, although I spent most of it worried about how we were going to get back to the outpost.
The facility is nice. Our guide was experienced and friendly. If you are unconcerned about being crammed in like like sardines with dozens of strangers during this unusual time, then you will probably enjoy your experience here. If you value your family’s safety over a good time, look elsewhere.

Raft with these guys, they rock (pun intended)!! I was a little worried about the Nantahala being not that rough, being in a raft would just make it too easy & unexciting, it would've been without a guide. Pay for a guide it's worth it, Jay was awesome!! Instead of gently floating down the river, getting stuck in the shallows. They know every rock & will spin & cartwheel you off them for an exciting trip. They know how to position the boat for maximum fun & wet who they want when they want. Also full of interesting information about the surroundings as you go down. Support the smaller companies when you can instead of the NOC.

We had a wonderful time with this company on July 14th, 2020. I booked my reservation on their website the day before. It was very easy and user friendly. We booked a fully-guided experience and we're glad we did. Our guide made sure to hit the best parts of the river, made sure both my wife and I got drenched, and even made our raft "surf" on the wave created by one of the rapid. We wouldn't have had those experiences without a guide. Also, we just felt safer. Our guide's name was Kenny and he was a perfect gentleman, easy to be with, and just let the day develop naturally. We didn't feel like he was trying to entertain us or force the conversation. We were super happy with him. Next time we are in western NC we will raft with this company again.

We did a guided raft trip with Fast Rivers on Saturday July 2 2022. I originally booked the trip for Friday, July 1 but due to unforeseen circumstances needed to reschedule the trip. I spoke to Will, the owner, and he rescheduled us without a problem. Great customer service.
We arrived a half hour before the scheduled raft departure time of 10:30 to complete the paperwork. A brief of the equipment and river was given prior to getting on the bus to the raft departure area. Short drive to departure area. There are some port o potties at the departure area.
We set off with our guide, JB, also known as Letters. He was a blast to talk to and knew the river well. He really made the trip the enjoyable event that it was. Thanks, JB! Honorable mention to Dave and the bus drivers who were all quite entertaining.
Now, for the river. I cannot begin to tell you how beautiful this river is. It was a partly cloudy day with mist floating on the river right in front of you. Beautiful forest and mountains rising up in front of you. A view of the Appalachian trail at the top of a ridge. Just spectacular. Our trip covered 8 miles and consisted of about 20 class 2 rapids and 3 class 3, if I remember correctly. The river was pretty tame the day we were there but that can change with rainfall. There are definitely a few spots where a guide is useful. There were several folks kayaking alone who didn’t seem to have any problems. My husband commented later that he thought we could kayak ourselves next time. Hmmm… I think I will stick with a guide. Your picture is taken at the last class 3 rapid. The pics are available for purchase for $35 for all of them, about 8 or 10 pics. We thought the price was reasonable so we bought all but I think you can buy just one for $20.
Bus ride back to the Fast Rivers facility is a longer bus ride but went smoothly. The Fast Rivers shop has nice bathrooms, changing and shower facilities if you want to change after the trip.
Fabulous raft trip on a beautiful river. Highly recommend.

We loved our experience with Adventurous Fast Rivers! Our group of 5 did a private guided trip with Graham (the best!!!) the first day, and then went again unguided in singles/doubles the next day. Each experience was really fun and very different, recommend doing both!

Pro tips: 1) Choose Adventurous Fast Rivers! There are a lot of rafting companies on the river, the others seemed like high throughput operations doing the river in flotillas of several boats, whereas AFR was smaller and way more personal 2) Ask for Graham! He was an awesome guide and customized the trip by letting us get out to jump into the river and to show us a cool cave (the other companies didn't allow that). He knows lots about the river and local history and is just super cool...thank you Graham!!! 3) Go early! The river gets really busy but if you're the first group out you have it to yourself for a while, and the morning mist adds to the beauty :)

Our raft guide and trip leader was Jon. All I can say is WOW! The trip was flawless. His trip and safety speech in the beginning was efficient and informative, and once we got in the water, the fun only continued. We were spinning off rocks, hitting waves "broadside", and loving every minute of our experience. If you're going rafting with Wildwater, let the front desk know that you want to go down the river with Jon and you won't be disappointed.

There's one other person who deserves a huge shout out from our family. His name is Blake. From greeting us when we arrived, to taking care of the second half of our group that went down the river with him (there were 7 people in his boat and he remembered EVERYONE'S NAME), Blake and Jon were two of the most hospital and professional guides my family has ever had.

Thank you WildWater!!!!

My family of six which included three kids between 7-12 years had a fantastic time rafting the Nantahala with Adventurous Fast Rivers. Our guide was Ryan and I liked that he took the time to learn all of our names and find out what the kids were most excited for during our trip. Ryan did a great job guiding our rafting so that we "bumped" several large boulders which the kids loved! I also liked that Adventurous Fast Rivers isn't a huge rafting company and that they rented neoprene booties for $5. I highly recommend renting these, especially if you're rafting the Nantahala which is 50 degrees year round!
