Having a GSMP visitor center was a big plus. It saved the drive to one of the larger centers for the annual ornament purchase. The 2nd floor museum was interesting.

This free museum was actually very nice. It had so many neat things from the past to look at. Everyone was very informative as well.

This is a thoroughly enjoyable museum to life in the Bryson City area. There are caring knowledgeable workers at the front desk ready to help with any question. The exhibits upstairs are first class representations of daily life in Swain County over the last 150 years. Take time to learn about life in this county while visiting here.

This was recommended by the manager at Mountain Layers Brewing Company and boy was she right! As much as we love craft beer - and Mountain Layers Brewing Company is a MUST do if you like / love craft beer - we also enjoy learning about the history of the areas we visit. The Swain County Heritage Museum was both interesting and informative for Swain County / Bryson City, the history of the area's Cherokee and the Great Smokey Mountains National Park, but also Fontana Dam (another must do in the area!) The displays were nicely presented (thanks to donations from local families) and well documented / researched. And, the staff was very hospitable and knowledgeable about the area! Whether you are a streaker, stroller or scholar when it comes to historical museums, it's a MUST do when in Bryson City, NC. We'd visit again and no doubt learn something new!

This was a great surprise. We went in for some maps and booklets, the very nice lady at the desk said go on up to our Museum, it's free. We wondered how good it could be for such an unadvertised little place. But we went upstairs and were SO so surprised at how packed full of interesting stuff this little museum was! Please take a few minutes and visit. They really are very proud of this and should be. Thank you Bryson City for this nice little museum!

We went to the Museum, since we read that a GSMNP center was in the building. Turns out they were loaded with stuff ! The center at Okanaluftee was picked clean, but we found what we needed.

Staff was very friendly. It was interesting to see and learn about things. This is something good to do if the weather is crummy. We did the indoor scavenger hunt and it was fun. There was lots to see with the museum and gift shop.

For a small town museum this is a decent one. They have lots of exhibits and information about the area using the entire 2nd floor of the building. The lower level has retail merchandise, books and maps to purchase. The staff is helpful in providing any information. There is no admission price but donations are appreciated.
