- sssm784 contributions5th time is a charm ;-)This was a wonderful trail ride! Horses were calm, saddles comfortable, and Tim was very pleasant and engaging. The weather and scenery was spectacular. If I had to make any suggestions... it would be for us to personally take more pictures. We were so into the moment that it wasn't until afterwards that we wished we had taken some photos to commemorate that we had finally been able to do our long awaited trail ride (had to reschedule 4 times due to weather/illness so this was attempt #5) All in all though, a memorable experience.Visited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten October 26, 2023
- Keeley1 contributionThe perfect excuse for a day trip in Blowing Rock!It was a wonderful experience, and the weather was perfect! Tim was so charismatic and friendly; I felt very welcomed and was certainly in good hands! I felt safe the entire trail, and it was nice and shady, so we never got hot! It is on a public horse trail, but we didn't run into many people. Everyone we came across was very friendly and knew Tim! He is great! We rode Smash and Cactus, and they were amazing! All of the horses are loved, and they truly live in luxury. (If you ask, you can see the horses' "day job" at the rodeo!) I will book it again, and I highly recommend it to all my family and friends!Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 29, 2024
- Tourist575932332861 contributionHop on a horse and ride into the pastWe had a great time on our 2-hour trail ride! Tim did a great job working with one experienced rider and a new one. The trail was beautiful and Tim filled the time with historical facts and anecdotes. If you are visiting the Blowing Rock/Banner Elk/Boone area and want a unique way to take in the beautiful scenery, this is a great way to do it.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 14, 2024

If you want to do this Trail Ride in the Fall or other busy time of year, book MONTHS in advance. We booked in June for a mid-October time. And we picked the perfect time! The weather and colors of Fall were spectacular. Tim is the owner of Vx3 Tail Rides, and he did an outstanding job. The horses were beautiful and well cared for. They responded well and were fun to ride, but you do have to be alert and make sure they are paying attention to you. The trail ride was through various carriage trails in Moses Cone area. We did stop for a break at the Moses Cone Manor where there are restroom facilities available. The ride was 2.5 hours long and just a lovely ride through beautiful areas. Tim is chatty and enjoyed entertaining his guests with good information about Moses Cone Family and area. Some of it may or may not be true. ha. Book this excursion for a fun time. Highly recommend.

Signed up to take a ride with Vx3 several months ago. We showed up 30 minutes early because I was not sure how long it would take to find it.
Brad was ready to go when we got there and we got started early too. Had a great trip. His horses were well taken care of and well mannered. Brad knew a lot about the area and was able to give us fun and interesting facts on the Cone mansion, Blue Ridge Parkway and Blowing Rock area.
I understand Brad is the Brother of Tim who started Vx3 and now Brad does the majority of the trips.
We will go back and ask for Brad to be out guide. He told us that he has 4 different loops to ride and you see different things on each ride.
Thank you Sir for a great afternoon!

My favorite part was....everything!! Tim expertly matched his horses to the folks who were there to ride. It was a beautiful trail on a beautiful spring day. Tim spoke very knowledgeably about the history of the Moses Cone Park during the ride which made it that much better. Our break in the back 1/3 of the ride allowed us to walk around the Moses Cone house, carriage house, take pictures, etc. Can't wait to book our next ride with Vx3.

I happen to go on a solo ride with a great guide, Brad. He was punctual and polite. He made this a real off road experience. I felt safe and entertained. I had a great horse with wonderful scenery on a beautiful day! These guys definitely set the bar for an authentic ride instead of a measly follow the leader trail where there’s not much effort involved. He had us stop at some great summits with great photogenic views. I will definitely come back!

What a great way to explore Moses H. Cone Memorial Park!! The three of us (my husband and I, plus my Mom) had an amazing time riding the trails with Tim, and learning the history of the trails and park. We hadn’t been on horses in quite some time, but Tim made sure we were comfortable every step of the way. His horses (Otoe, Jet and Drifter) were very well-mannered and once we were on our way back to our rental cabin we all commented on how much fun we had and how we’d book another trail ride the next time we stay in Boone. Tim, thank you so much!!!!!!

My family and I took a 3-hour horseback ride with Vx3 in March of 2020 thru Moses Cone Memorial Park. I cannot say enough good things about the owner/guide, the quality and health of the horses, as well as the exceptional trails and beautiful views during this trip. We usually go on horseback rides during every vacation, so we’ve rode many trails and with a lot of guides. I can say, without question, this was THE VERY BEST (by far) trip we have been on. Far and above what we’ve experienced at other places. We felt 100% safe, the horses were extremely well taken care of and gentle, and the owner was a fantastic guide with great local stories and history of the park. If you are in Blowing Rock, this is a MUST! We can’t wait to go back!

Finally found an outfit that does top notch horseback riding on the Moses Cone Trails! Tim Vines and his assistant, of Vx3 Trail Rides, gave us a great experience. Tim's horses are well taken care of and have been trained to respond. Tim and his assistant were very friendly, know the area, and instantly make you feel at ease in their presence. Tim has a great sense of humor. The ride was long enough and Tim gave us several trails to pick from. His assistant was experienced. The Moses Cone Trails were beautiful and the ride was really fun! Good times!

My wife and I rode with Brad yesterday. It was the BEST ride we've ever had. The ride was about 7 miles and left us wanting to do the other 19. We are planning on coming back in the spring for what has to be something special when the woods begin to wake up. Brad was such a great guide. His knowledge of the area comes from him growing up in these woods. He has a great sense of humor and a kind heart. You might be able to ride cheaper but I don't think it gets better than this.

My boyfriend and I had an amazing time exploring Moses Cone Memorial Parks trails with the tour guide Brad. His boisterous personality and knowledge of the area made for an entertaining and informative experience. The horses were well trained and beautiful. The price was well worth the time spent forest bathing. I'd highly recommend it for anyone looking to try a trail ride, regardless of experience level. Note: those new to horseback riding will likely experience some soreness in the bottom area, it shall pass 😄

We were lucky enough to book a ride with Vx3 last weekend as they came highly recommended by locals. Matt, Tim and Remy were so fun, friendly and full of information about what we saw on our trail ride. Their horses are so well trained, loved and cared for. We had 1 first time rider and 4 riders with limited experience. They matched each of us up perfectly with our horses. We saw so many beautiful views on our way to the top to the Cone Estate. We learned so much about the park, land, the family who donated it, horses and life. We will definitely book with them again. If you want to trail ride in the Blowing Rock area this is who you must call. Matt and Tim give our horses Cat, Drifter, Smash, Athena and Jet our love and some carrots.

What is the rain policy?
Written July 26, 2018
If it is raining you can call to request to cancel your ride with 3 hours advance notice. Because i have to haul the horses into the park, i like to know prior to cleaning, saddling, and hauling. However, we can ride in the rain :-)

Do you actually remain seated on the horse for 3 hours? Any bathroom / porta potties along the way?
Written December 11, 2015
We do take a break about 1/2 way at the Carriage house and Manor house where you can use the restrooms, and walk up to the Manor house to see local crafts. Call me and we can discuss your specific needs. My rides are very custom.

Are there buggy rides or wagon rides for those who don't want to ride individually? Thanks
Written August 7, 2015
No, sorry I do not offer buggy or wagon rides. But the trails at Moses Cone park are also great for walking or hiking.
Written August 7, 2015
We absolutely have horses! You just come ride! :-)
Call me and let's ride
Written August 3, 2015
We paid $100/rider, however, we were a party of all adults. Unless a child was going to be riding along with another rider, I wouldn't expect the cost to be different. Contact Tim though as I am sure he will do anything he can to accommodate your family. He is such a wonderful man....and very much a ''family'' man!
