this place is staffed by burn-outs who are only there to collect a check. they definitely don't want to be there and it shows. this place is poorly organized - rent your skis on one side of the lodge and then walk to the opposite side to get the goggles. can take up to an hour to get all your... We planned a family vacation to the Appalachian Ski Mountain resort which young children. The Ski Mountain in itself was enjoyable and our children liked it. However we rented the Snowbird Cabin and it has been the worst experience ever. The cabin had the following issues: Extremely filthy stained rug Smelly restrooms Broken outside door, we could not go out... More

The NC ski resorts took a beating this year due to the mild winter. I applaud Appalachian for keeping their resort open thru nearly the end of March; I made the short trip over from my place at another close by resort that had already closed for the season. We took advantage of skiing at Appalachian on the first day... More

Great place for beginners, good service. Great staff! We really enjoy the time at Appalachian. We really recommend to take the class if you never ski before you going to need it!

One of our favorite spots to ski. Prices are fair and the value is good. Season extends into late March and is less crowded then. But even in the busy season it is a great place to ski. They have a restaurant onsite, put also have an indoor area for picnicking. Ski French Ski school onsite as well.....get lessons for... More

We traveled all the way from Nashville and stayed in Banner Elk; looking to ski at Sugar Mtn, but they had NO SNOW! It was about to be the WORST trip ever, until we were told about Appalachian Ski Mountain. They have their OWN Lake & make their own snow LONGER than anyone in the area. Great staff all around:... Older ski resort, yet very, very clean and well maintained. Kids had a blast. Jesse our instructor was awesome. If you don't want to ski, stay indoors by the fire. Either way, you can't go wrong. We'll be back.

We chose to test our kids interest with skiing by signing them up for the skiwee school. The website noted ski school began at 9:00am and when I called to reserve space for the kids they confirmed it started at 9:00am. We arrived an hour early to register and gather our rental items. Upon registration we learned the ski school... More
