While we were in the area, we walked all through town and restuarants. I appreciate that this area had many people walking around. The stores would not allow entry unless you wore a mask. One shop owner was rude to a person without a mask even when they had revieled a medical condition that made mask wearing impoossible. I thought that violated HIPPA laws, but they made her leave immediatly. I would return and enjoy more time here.

Black Mountain is a quaint, lovely town just east of Asheville. It attracts good size summer crowds who enjoy its dog friendly restaurants and shops. Stop at the Town Square to take a break and enjoy its pretty flowers. Beautiful spot!

This is a Gem. We stayed at the Hampton Inn right off of Highway 40 and were right next to the historic downtown area. Very pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed ourselves. Good food, good drinks and lots of shopping.

This is a fun place to come to waste a few hours. There are giant rocker chairs and a splash pad. The two year old loved it! There is also a covered gazebo for the older folks to rest under.

We spent the day walking the town and all of the wonderful quaint shops. Beautifully kept and clean. It was great going into the unusual shops that you don't normally see. Wish we could have had longer to visit, but will definitely return.

Black Mountain is a quintessential North Carolina town. Now, the town is mostly a tourist destination for visitors going to and from nearby Asheville. There are lots of in interesting little shops of crafts, antiques, and local arts. There's a variety of bistros, restaurants, bars, and breweries for when you get hungry. It's a good day trip. Want to get overwhelmed? Go when the Sourwood Honey Festival is in process! Dozens of vendor tents offering everything; clothing, leather goods, arts, crafts, outdoor furniture, plants, and fair food. Lots of fun.

This is my third or fourth trip to Black Mountain. It has really changed since my last one. No more Dr. Peppers restaurant (my favorite) and seems to be more about boutiques than antiques. One antique shop we visited, I found an item and offered five dollars less than the price shown. The proprietor stuck up her nose, looking down upon me and said "we don't dicker on prices listed under $100." Wow! I was shocked as she was just saying goodbye to a $40 purchase. All my other trips included collectible purchases with dickered prices regardless of the amount. I had more fun watching the long freight train pass by. So, I maintain prior memories of this once wonderful little town and will not attempt to replace them in the future.

I visited the Chamber of Commerce looking for advice about local hiking. My travel companion and I visited the visitors center to ask for the local trails and to inquire about restaurants. The woman sitting behind the desk when we visted was not at all enthusiastic or helpful. We felt like we were interrupting her morning routine....we tried to ask for directions and she wasn't specific or helpful. We had questions about the hiking map due to the fact that the print was too small for us to read (even with our glasses) and she replied "it's all there". We then asked about area restaurants and she handed us a generic map......all in all, it felt like she is not very enthusiastic about helping travelers.

We had a lot of fun shopping and walking in this town. The merchants were very friendly and our dogs were welcome in most stores.
