My wife and visited the store yesterday. We were very impressed by the selection of Polish pottery but the two staff there seemed to be having a non-speak competition. We entered in her half of the store and were not greeted and were not engaged when we said that we loved the pottery and had just returned from Poland. I made a purchase in the other half of the store and was barely acknowledged by the other attendant during the transaction. WOW are they in the wrong business. I can appreciate becoming numb to tourists but if thats the job you've chosen.

Europa is a lovely shop. My immediate family has lived in Germany almost 50 years, including now, 2019. We first were there in 1970.
This shop is not "made in China." When you go to the markets in Germany today, especially the Christmas markets, you have to pay attention that the item is "made in Germany." (The craftsmanship does speak for itself, if you pay attention.) Europa shows the attentive care of the owners in their selections. This couple has a long love of Europe, and things-Europe, and it is evident. The selection is "with loving care."
Europa carries beautiful and REASONABLY priced items and gifts.

My husband and I visited the shop and were initially looking forward to it,as we had lived in Germany for many years.

We found the selection of sweets to be not as expected and kind of an “odd” selection. The merchandise was all a small sampling of German Smokers (similar to nutcrackers, but they have a small incense cone which creates smoke),nutcrackers, ornaments. The store concentrates heavily on Polish Pottery, which is commercially popular.
There is also a very small sampling of tartans, knives and tobacco.

I expected to be “wowed” more.

Overall, we weren’t greeted by either of the people in the store.

Dear RfromVero: Thank you for visiting Europa and for taking the time to write a review. We apologize that you weren’t greeted; it is our usual practice to greet every visitor when possible. Our curated collection of fine gifts come from more than a dozen European countries and the USA. We carry more than 20 different items from Germany in addition to the ones you mentioned, but we’d love to hear what we’re missing! We invite you to stop back by or to email us at info@europafinegifts.com to let us know what you suggest we carry. Thank you again for your time.

One of the reasons I love living in this area is because of stores like Europa. Anytime I'm looking for a unique, one of a kind gift, this is one of my first stops. Polish pottery, Lithuanian candles, German candies and beer steins, and my local go to for my pipe tobacco, this store is filled with all things European. Because of my heroic dad who served our country in the US Army I was privileged to be born in Germany and had the opportunity to live overseas for a number of years. Coming to this store brings back so many memories. To me Europa is a must if you live in or are visiting Black Mountain. Two thumbs up... Five Stars... 10 out of 10... and all those other good ratings!

Europa is full of beautiful and unusual items that are not normally found in other stores. The owners dress for the environment in European style clothing that works very well to set the aumbeince. They are very friendly, eager to answer questions and knowledgeable about the products they carry. The wall of German kucoo clocks is a joy to both see and hear. If you are looking for beautiful hand painted Polish decorative plates and bowls they have them. They store is small, but contains a plethora of buitiful items. If you are visiting Black Mountain NC, I highly recommend you drop in and browse what they have.

Every time I visit my friend who lives and works in Black Mountain, N.C., I stop in to Europa. They have wonderful and unique gifts. i always find something for myself and my friends. Each time I go there, they have something new and different from the year before and their prices are pretty reasonable.

If you are looking for authentic European gifts and crafts then this small store is a wonderful gem. They have wonderful pieces of handmade Polish pottery (which I personally love and have bought a couple of pieces of, including my absolute favorite coffee mug), beautifully crafted German wooden clocks from the Black Forest, Italian glassware, German Steins, exotic tobaccos and hand carved pipes, French soaps, Scottish scarves with Tartan colors, just so many wonderful things. I absolutely love this store!

I balk at expensive gift shops but make an exception for Europa. Kim and Tom (proprietors) are unobtrusively helpful. They take their precious wares off the shelves and encourage the customer to handle them. They know where their merchandise comes from and delight in sharing about the company or individual craftsman. Of course they are canny enough to know that someone could go online and order the very-cool-thing at 10% off. But shops like Europa are why one should never do that. They curate the best items and serve the customer to a fare-thee-well. I do some Christmas shopping there and am always most happy with my purchases.

The owners of this store have great taste – or at least compatible with ours. We bought several items of Polish china (they have a great selection), but could easily have added German cuckoo clock and/or nutcracker.
