I don't know about their local rides because I came out from Seattle to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway. There's the ride and then there's the company. The Blue Ridge Parkway is just under 500 miles of some of the best pavement in America for riding a bicycle on. Few cars, great scenery, and that great federally financed pavement! One of if not the best long ride in America. As for the company, they are an owner operated tour company that provides a level of service and attentiveness above what we've had from the larger vendors. Jen is as sweet as can be and a pleasure to ride with and David makes sure things are working and run on time. The van was comfy, they found colorful local restaurants for us to eat at, and we stayed in some local cabins and large park lodges. All in all a fun and well run tour company.

I am new to the area and really have enjoyed the social rides as they are pleasant and informational. In addition David and Jen offer alot of advice to help develop your biking skills. As I Get better (and in better shape) I hope to do more challenging rides. An excellent way to enjoy biking in a spectacular setting. I highly recommend them.

Velo Girl Rides planned and executed our three day bike tour of the Blue Ridge Parkway and surrounding area to perfection. While the trip was aided by beautiful weather it was perfected by Jen and David of Velo Girl Rides. Their attention to detail and the safety of our group throughout the trip was second to none. It would take me a really long time to explain all the benefits of hiring Velo Girl Rides for your bike tour so I'm just going to list them below.
- SAFETY - David is a certified EMT and fire fighter
- great food
- great routes
- thorough and organized
- knowledgeable about the history of the area
- they have ridden all these routes countless times themselves so they can answer any questions you might have about the condition of the roads, difficult climbs and how to navigate the descents.

Thank you! We're delighted that your group had such a fine trip (and nearly perfect temps for riding). We hope to see you again.

I had signed up to attend a Farm to Cycle ride and was unable to go at the last minute due to a medical emergency. I called to ask for a refund, informing the owner that I would be happy to forward a note from my doctor explaining why I could not join the ride. She said they "did not have a refund policy" and while I was in mid-sentence, told me she was getting another call and had to go and promptly hung up on me! Velo Girl is a FOR-PROFIT company and it is inexcusable that they would not offer any type of refund for riders who are unable to attend. The money is not going to charity. I would never recommend working with these people.

We know that every dollar is valuable, and we’ve had to forfeit quite a few event registration fees ourselves, when conflicts came up and prevented us from riding. At least three times last season, so we can feel the pain. But 828mel isn’t recounting the situation quite accurately. She WAS offered a spot in the next Cycle to Farm event, and declined to take advantage of this when we offered it. She also previously told us that she purchased third-party insurance, which Cycle to Farm does not offer (but Active.com does), but apparently isn’t using the insurance for her medical issue. And lets remember that 828mel isn’t a Velo Girl Rides tour client. She paid for a spot in the Cycle to Farm event, and then wanted her money back. We make it clear that refunds are not available when paying the fee for the Cycle to Farm event. Why? The fees collected are spent far in advance of the day of the event, thus the no-refund policy. We do offer a “roll forward” to the next event, on a case by case basis, and this was offered to her. 828mel makes a few other mistakes in her review: Of course Cycle to Farm is a charity event (a long list of sponsors verifies this, as can the charity partner in each event). Velo Girl Rides manages Cycle to Farm, but it is not our main business (which is providing bike tours). In fact, Velo Girl Rides donates hundreds of hours to Cycle to Farm each year. Proceeds indeed go to charity (in this case, LiveWell Greenville / YMCA). Which is another reason why refunds are not offered. And our TOURS do have a refund policy (while Cycle to Farm does not). And about that phone call: the discussion was curtly shut off, because the phone WAS ringing with other incoming calls. 828mel called DURING the Cycle to Farm event! Which is a complex operation involving about 100 volunteers, 10+ sponsors on site, and 10+ government agencies, all mostly linked by cell phone. Yup, telephone requests for refunds while the event is going on probably won’t get a lengthy phone interaction. There are other priorities. We realize that can be frustrating, but that is simply the reality for a large, volunteer-run charity event. Of course we’re sorry that 828mel didn’t have a positive experience trying to get a nonrefundable deposit back. To learn about our quality of service for TOURS, we encourage potential clients to read the reviews by actual tour clients, or contact a tour client. We bend over backwards to help out riders, whether they are riding in an event, or taking a tour with us. Our offer to let 828mel ride in a future Cycle to Farm event at no additional cost or fee remains open.

Jen and David were fantastic guides for our recent tour. Very well organised, great routes set up and great knowledge of the area in all regards. All the back up required was first class.
Would highly recommend and would love to find the time to do another ride.

I am am avid cyclist from Wyoming and contacted Jen for a day of riding while visiting the Black Mountain area. I like rural roads with lots of climbing. Jen delivered a beautiful route of twisting roads and scenic views. I never would have been able to figure out such an excellent ride on my own. Jen is very professional and even added on some bonus miles around Black Mountain to show my the area. I hope to ride with her again.

I planned a trip to Asheville to work on my climbing skills. Since I am not a native to Western NC, I didn't know what routes to plan that would give me the climbing I was looking for while also being safe.
I found Velo Girl Rides online and contacted Jen to ask if she would be willing to plan some routes for me. I was pleased to find that not only would she plan routes for me as a custom event, but also ride with me for the 3 days I planned to be there.
After my email, she contacted me by phone to discuss my desires and skills. She was very communicative and helpful in working with me to plan exactly the trip/experience I wanted. She gave me lots of different options and continued to remain in contact through the planning process.
Prior to our first ride, she provided plenty of information about what to expect and what I would need.
I found riding with her to be a great experience. Not only is she a pleasant person, but she was informative, communicative and made me feel comfortable and safe throughout all of our rides. She was encouraging during tough parts and created a sense of ease.
Jen went above and beyond in terms of thinking about suggestions for other things I might enjoy doing or places I might enjoy going during my trip to Asheville, and even gave me suggestions for riding options if I returned.
The second day, her husband, David, rode with us. He was equally warm and fun to ride with and be around. Both were flexible and accommodating and helped make my trip a great experience.
I would absolutely recommend booking a trip with Velo Girl for a fun, safe, and challenging experience! I will definitely be riding with them again in the future!

I joined the last few days of a Blue Ridge Parkway tour. Information I received before and during the event was spot on including electronic files for GPS devices. We and our bikes were well taken care of, accommodations well researched, meals carefully prepared, tasty and nutritious, transportation comfortable, and responsive to individual requests. I was surprised, no make that amazed, when taught a technique of "resting" while climbing. We encountered adverse weather and the organizers made excellent operational calls. I hold a yearly multi-day ride and can't say enough good about the top-notch service provided by Velo Girl Rides.

Enjoyed the Blue Ridge Parkway end-to-end with Velo Girl last week. David and Jen provided first class support anticipating and exceeding riders' needs, seamlessly adapting to a few bike mechanical issues, all with good humor and enthusiasm. Two thumbs up!

I had the pleasure of riding in the inaugural Velo Girl Rides "Blue Ridge Parkway End to End Tour" in 2013. The 8 day, 470 mile bicycle ride is a bucket list ride, and the agenda as set out by our friendly guides Jen (Velo Girl) and her husband David, made it a fair challenge...all of our group rode EFI (every fabulous inch).
I have ridden on a number of organized bike tours in North America, the Caribbean, and Europe and the level of organization and support, provided by Velo Girl Rides ranks near the top of the list of tour providers as far as I am concerned. The accommodations included locally managed cabins and park lodges. The food was plentiful and nourishing. I am signed up for the 2014 version as well, and this year my wife is planning on joining me. We are both looking forward to riding The Blue Ridge in September.
