On our last day we stopped in to view the Black Mtn. Center for the Arts and was greeted by a friendly staff. Beautiful and creative art work to look at. Was impressed at what this location offered to the locals in music, dance, theater, and visual art. Very nice!!

We visited this town on our way to visit our niece because of a trip advisor recommendation. This arts center is small and we were not here at a time of a performance. However, the exhibit they had was interesting about a local guy who invented the geodesic dome among other things.

Of course I had to visit an art stop on our trip to Black Mountain, so we found (art place). The woman who greeted us as we came in was so kind to leave her station and give us a walking tour of the two-story building, as well a brief history (loved the original wood floors!) Original art decorated the walls, and upstairs was a studio that was at that moment occupied by children having fun in a class, and a nicely appointed gallery displaying works by a fascinating sketch artist. We really appreciated the fact that the docent took time to be with us and fill us in on details that otherwise would have been missed had we done a self-tour. Great stop on our visit!

A great location for local plays and presentations! Saw "Eleanor's Story" here and the accommodations were very quaint and professional.

We had hoped that this would be a combination of a museum and art gallery--as the signage says. And, we'd even hoped they would have a good selection of local crafts for sale. We were mistaken.

There is no "museum." As for an art gallery, they have 10 shows a year--one of which was hanging and which was quite nice. There was very little for sale, though the pieces that were remaining for sale were sweet.

What this facility offers in the way of lessons and workshops--ranging from all sorts of art (fine art, music, and dance) is wonderful. Novice students can take classes, and more advanced artists can rent time and work independently.

The people who worked at the Center were very pleasant.

The art was beautiful, however there was not a lot of it. There was one small room upstairs with painted canvases. I believe all the painting were by the same artis. There is no fee to enter, but donations are accepted.

We stopped in casually and were literally given an impromptu mini-tour of the center by its director. Well worth a visit for one of its art shows, or if your staying in town, perhaps a yoga class. This was one of the truly charming venues in Black Mountain. Kudos!

If you are looking for excellence in jewelry, pottery, woodworking, glass or other fine crafts you have to stop here. The breathtaking views from the Blue Ridge Parkway are an added bonus.

On a rainy Friday night, we were so glad that we were going to The Front Porch Theatre for the opening night of “Queen of Bingo.” A small theatre that has the audience being a part of the play, the theatre is located in the Black Mountain Center for the arts. The two act play featuring two sisters at a St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Bingo Night is a “winner!” The cast is fantastic as these two sisters offer intrigue with their own personalities and idiosyncrasies of life. FUNNY! Yet so true! Watching the show everyone can relate to these sisters as they share their feelings, antics, anxieties, fears, and gossip. The cast was fantastic! Truly a great show that is totally entertaining and brings lots of laughter and smiles. A real pick-me-up on a rainy Friday night. We left uplifted. Additionally, we had the opportunity at Intermission to see some of the artwork and the special exhibit of “ORCHESTRATION” by Sculptor Julia C. Burr. The immersion into Julia’s world and works of elegant instrumentation in a unique design and calm setting was relaxing and intriguing. Plus, we bought chances to win a bicycle. Wish us luck! We will definitely be alert to other shows and venues at the Black Mountain Center for the Arts.
