We had such a good time today on the Waterbug Tour! We traveled along the reserve hoping to see a few of the wild horses & we ended up seeing about 20-30! We were able to get really close to them so we got some excellent pictures! Captain Bob was super knowledgeable about the whole area and even though we've been to Beaufort a few times, we ended up learning a lot about the area. We really had a good time & took the Captains suggestion to eat at the Stillwater/Rhum Bar & that was excellent as well. All in all, we had a great day & my kids (10 & 16) say that the Waterbug experience was one of their favorite excursions of all time.

We love water tours and Waterbug is one of the best we've ever taken. Captain Bob's knowledge and enthusiasm for this beautiful part of the coast is contagious. We were treated to wild ponies (and their live on the islands in the area), dolphins, and an introduction to both the history of Beaufort and the ecosystem of a tidal basin. The island we focused on had been the home of Rachel Carson while she was doing the research for "Silent Spring" the book that kick started the environmental movement in this country and which was responsible for saving the pelicans from extinction. Gregarious, friendly, funny, and knowledgeable, Captain Bob communicates his passion for this area to all his passengers.

We wanted to take a tour of the Beaufort waterfront and decided the Water Bug offered exactly what we wanted. We hoped to see Beaufort from the water and learn a little about the surrounding area. Once on board, we found Captain Bob to be extremely knowledgeable about the waterfront. The 45-minute ride was entertaining and educational. We saw some of the wild horses on Carrot Island and learned a little about the history of Beaufort. Although it was our first trip on the Water Bug, it certainly will not be our last. It was well worth the price. I highly recommend this attraction when you are in Beaufort. Make time and do not miss this one.

We enjoyed the 60-minute ride with Captain Bob on our beach trip this fall. He was entertaining and informative and we learned a lot about the horses on Carrot Island and some of the history of the Beaufort area. It was a great value and wonderful experience and we would recommend it.

I've been on the Water Bug tour about a couple dozen times and every time I go on it I learn something new! Captain Bobby is very knowledgeable and entertaining and the 45 minute ride is very pleasant. Captain Peggy is great too! I'm sure I'll go a dozen more times-I always bring family and friends who are visiting on it and they all love it!

Recently, a group of ladies from our church went out with Capt. Bob on the Water Bug! What a treat! The boat is safe and comfortable, and Capt. Bob is a wonderful tour guide! We saw the wild horses on Carrot Island and learned so much about the history of Beaufort. The next time you are in this quaint waterfront town, take a tour on the Water Bug…you’ll be glad you did. (This was my third time on the tour, and I learn something new each time!)

Must see! Capt. Bob was friendly and knowledgable. Saw horses, birds, and other wildlife. For bird watching go at low tide. Boat was smooth and quiet. We have a 2 1/2 year old and this was a perfect experience.

Excellent option for getting into the waterways around Beaufort to view wild horses and other wildlife. Bigger tour boats can't get into the same spaces. Captain Bob has 25 years of experience so is extremely knowledgeable and also friendly and fun. Recommend going at high tide.

I believe the daytime tour is $18 per adult and $10 per child, but check their website. We felt the tour fee was reasonable and it was a highlight of our trip.

Are toddlers (2.5 years old) required to wear a life jacket on this tour?
Written September 15, 2016
Per Coast Guard regs, there are adult and children's life preservers on board. Kids on our tour were not asked to put on a life preserver. All passengers including young children were to remain seated at all times while the boat was in motion. This probably would mean holding your toddler.
