After visiting the Morehead City/Atlantic Beach area many times, we finally visited the Old Burying Ground. I've always wanted to go there. It was really interesting to go by the printed guide pamphlet's numbered grave sites and read the stories about them. Very peaceful just...More

My wife and I are locals but we love coming through and revisiting the old bearing ground once every six months or year. If we have friends coming from out of town we always bring them here.

Anytime you are at the Atlantic Beach NC area it would be worth your time to walk thru this old grave yard. It's filled with some strange history!!

We spent about 30 minutes just reading headstones and looking at family connections. Definitely worth a visit if you love history and old cemeteries.

Our tour guide brought us by here on a walking tour of the historic district and she explained the history of this cemetery and why it is so important to Beaufort's heritage. Can see why folks come here to meditate.

I am a little hesitant about reviewing a cemetery as an attraction, just be respectful of where your at. Interesting reading on many of the headstones, tough time to try to make a life. This is a walk through the areas founding and its history....More

This is an easy walk-through experience. There is a brochure which marks 28 or so gravesites and gives the back stories. Absolutely fascinating and diverse historical view that touches on the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. A must-see.

Reading the gravestones was an experience not to be missed! It adds to one's understanding of how families were related, how many young children and babies died so young, who fought in the wars, etc.

No charge to enter the burying ground, but they ask a $1 for the brochure with brief commentary on a number of the graves. Not sure what the current fee is for a tour guide, but sometimes you get a free short tour with a... More
