Beautiful old lighthouse and worth the $6 entry fee. The climb to the top (112 wooden steps) is fun and views of Bald Head Island are breathtaking. Highly recommend visiting this site and learn about life as a lighthouse keeper in the 19th century.

Took the Ferry to Bald Head Island. Rented a golf cart from Cary Cart Company, to "Self tour" the Island. First stop was the Lighthouse, and it was fantastic. It's old and it was hot, and the wooden steps kept me wondering...but the view from the top was amazing. You shouldn't be too out of shape or "hefty" to try... More

Actually walkable from the marina and ferry dock. Many rent golf carts but I got a bike from Riverside Adventure located a short walk from the dock and headed out to explore the island. Old Baldy was my first stop and I thought about whether it would be worth it. Definitely a good choice. $6 and the reward is a... More

Thank you for taking the time to review us! Your insider information will help others find out how easy it is to visit us via bicycle. Another great ride on a bike is the state run Southport-Fort Fisher ferry to Ft Fisher, Kure Beach, and Carolina Beach. More

Take the Southport to Bald Island Ferry ($22/ person) and arrive in 30 minutes on beautiful Bald Island... The lighthouse built in 1817, is the oldest in NC... Climb up 210feet and the views are worth the climb... Good for fans of light houses or just anyone wanting to see a beautiful old structure...

Being a person that is follicly challenged I had to visit this island. Then I discovered Old Baldy. Photo opportunity as well ! It is only $6 per person, you get to look around a small museum before you take that climb. We went at the height of summer so obviously it is hot. You can take a bottle of... More

We stopped here to climb the lighthouse and see the sights. The gift shop was cute and tiny. It was a lot of fun to climb the steps in the lighthouse. It seemed really authentic. It was a strenuous climb, and the last few steps are up a ladder and a small space, which was a bit tricky due to... More

Our family went here after breakfast one morning and thoroughly enjoyed the small museum, the information learned about the history of the lighthouse and then the climb and view from the top. I'd go early when it is cooler. The small chapel next to the lighthouse is beautiful. I wish we had been able to attend a Sunday service.

We took the tour of the museum and the lighthouse, and enjoyed every step. It was very interesting to learn the history of the island, and even neater to be able to go to the top of the lighthouse where we had the most wonderful view. Highly recommend it!
