Bald Head Island itself is an amazing place to visit, but add an historic lighthouse, and you've added a cherry on top of your favorite treat! We visited in August, so it was hot. Many tourists were also visiting that day, which made the lines and the waiting times longer, but despite the lack of air, and the fear of... More

A visit to the island's lighthouse is a worthwhile trip. It has a lot of character inside and a great view of the island. The number of steps isn't too overwhelming but we visited in August and the heat and humidity made the climb difficult. There was very little air circulating until we reached the top where a vent let... More

The lighthouse itself is quaint and well kept. There are 128 steps to go up in stifling hot conditions. I would recommend it only for the hardy.

For anyone visiting Bald Head visiting Old Baldy is a must. The walk to the top isn't bad and the views are terrific. The museum is small and has some interesting artifacts and information about the island.

A nice place to visit in Bald Head Island. It's a 5-10 minute walk from the marina and there are also golf carts and/or bikes you can rent. The golf carts are $50 for one hour for a six seater. The lighthouse is beautiful and has a small museum right next to it. You'll need tickets to climb the lighthouse... More

A great old lighthouse on a peaceful, cute island. It's a little expensive to get here (lighthouse admission is only $6, but the ferry is $22, bike rental is $25, food and anything else is crazy expensive). The stairs are very, very step, but the climb is quick, with lots of landings to pause on. The top is fully enclosed,... More

Anytime you have a chance to visit a lighthouse, it's a joy! I predict Old Baldy is not long for this world, however, since it is quite dilapidated inside. Although there is a recreated keeper's house next to it, which also houses the gift shop, I wish there were even more historical exhibits. There is a foundation to preserve the... More

Beautiful old lighthouse and worth the $6 entry fee. The climb to the top (112 wooden steps) is fun and views of Bald Head Island are breathtaking. Highly recommend visiting this site and learn about life as a lighthouse keeper in the 19th century.

Took the Ferry to Bald Head Island. Rented a golf cart from Cary Cart Company, to "Self tour" the Island. First stop was the Lighthouse, and it was fantastic. It's old and it was hot, and the wooden steps kept me wondering...but the view from the top was amazing. You shouldn't be too out of shape or "hefty" to try... More

Actually walkable from the marina and ferry dock. Many rent golf carts but I got a bike from Riverside Adventure located a short walk from the dock and headed out to explore the island. Old Baldy was my first stop and I thought about whether it would be worth it. Definitely a good choice. $6 and the reward is a... More
