My family was staying near the falls as part of a fall break road trip. Being a history buff, I thought it might be worth it make the short drive from the falls up to Old Fort Niagara. I thought maybe we'll spend an hour there and then go find something else to do... three hours later we left! The... More

You don'thave to be a history buff to enjoy the pleasantries this fort has to offer you. There is touring and on hand experience during such touring if you wish to participate. The historians are wells of information. The grounds are kept near exact replica to the historical times where the fort was used during it's battle times. Mock battle... More

We ended our trip to Niagara Falls with a stop at Old Fort Niagara. From moment one, it is like stepping back in time. The original buildings from the 1600s and 1800s are waiting for you to walk into and get a true understanding of what defending a fort was actually like. The folks on hand are dressed in era... Fort Niagara is unique in the fact that it still contains its original buildings. The museum shows an entertaining, informative film about the different wars that took place here, and has many great artifacts. The fort itself is a mixture of War of 1812 era defenses alongside the original French structures. The uniformed interpreters often give live fire demonstrations with... More

OFN is an excellent preservation of early American military history. The self guided tour pamphlet given at the check in station is easy to follow, well marked and provides a very good summary as to what you are encountering. Then to come up close the structures, wood, earthen hills, equipment and decor/furniture and it really takes you back to the... More

We spent a chilly rainy afternoon exploring the buildings of Old Fort Niagara. Fascinating place that made history come alive for 2 young boys, one of whom declared "it was worth the effort" in spite of the rain.

We can imagine the troops who live here, where they sleep, eat, pray and do activities. It is Christmas so all tables, walls, doors are beautifully decorated with Christmas ornaments. One soldier also demonstrate how to shoot with an old gun ! Like we were taken back in time when the Fort was active. Nice experience for the whole family... More

The historical exhibits in the museum were fascinating and the grounds really give you a feel for military life back in the War of 1812 days. The live musket demonstrations are a must see but leave enough time to see the grounds properly.

You really must make the short trip from the Falls. The buildings and fortifications actually date from the 1700s. The visitor center is interesting and the staff does a nice job bringing the place to life.
